We bought our house last year on a new build estate and we joined the group before moving. I never ever comment on there mainly just for a nosey. Any how today their was a Asian wedding going on behind our house. And they are all going mad about the fireworks that lasted a mere 5 minutes. "My autistic kid can't sleep now" "it's so dangerous they could cause a fire" "my animals are going mad"

I commented telling everyone to get a life as it didn't last long! Then I realised one of my neighbours was the one going mad about it 🥴

It's seems all people do on these groups is moan! AIBU? Should I be a bit more sensitive? I have a newborn and 2 DC's under 5 and a dog and we all managed to survive the 5 minutes of fireworks.

I quite enjoy ours, but really wish people wouldn’t post photos of the dog turds they’re angry about. It’s grim.

Wotrewelookinat · 16/08/2022 16:14

We have a tortoise that regularly escapes and photos of it mooching along various roads are shared…..people complaining about wind chimes…and a lot of comedy about a particular very large pothole!

Ours is fab.
Wide up merchant posting and then watching the fireworks
Constant updates on the new build (not welcomed)
Pond watch - new arrivals, friendless swans, bad cat reducing numbers
Unspecified youths causing consternation

I highly recommend joining the FB group, “Angry People in Local FB Groups” . It’s comedy gold.

Ours has been fairly boring since the High Drama people made themselves a separate community page after getting in a snit with the admin for not posting their frothing. I very briefly belonged to the offshoot group too, but it was batshit so I left.

I avoid. Always racist undertones. Petty-minded nonsense. A helicopter flying overhead causes a frenzy of excitement then loads of comments 'Theres a helicopter flying over my house!'. Cue 20 'and mine..!' comments. Pompous, Tinpot Hitler admin.

Inevitably someone will make a scornful comment about the area being crime capital then thats it, they're off arguing.

I suppose if one loves drama and doesn't get enough of that in life (even tho its manufactured drama), local forums must be a good outlet

Yes ! The helicopters, and the "3 police cars have just gone down such and such road. Anyone know what's happening" ? 🙄

rainingagain · 16/08/2022 16:39

" just saw an ambulance go down park road, I do hope everyone involved is ok "

Well they're clearly not and whilst I'm sure you wish them no harm, you certainly are more concerned about finding out what's happened than the persons welfare

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 16/08/2022 16:40

@Lakeyloo yes I totally agree about that one, lots of nosey people, some who seem to enjoy watching other peoples misfortunes unwind. I really can't stand that!!

Thanks! That's comedy gold!

amatsip · 16/08/2022 16:55

My local group is mainly about a cat that shits on peoples lawns.

Though I joined Peacehaven gossip as I was told it was a gold mine of batshit posts. It hasn’t failed to give me the WTF 😳 moments weekly.(I don’t live anywhere remotely near peacehaven)

Ooh. I follow "Angry People in local Newspapers" didn't know about this one.

As you say, absolute comedy gold in the comments under the story 9 times out of 10. Grin

Mine is fab. We're picky about what we allow people to post- guidelines are really clear, though not many read them! If you want to share video footage of a noisy kid playing football, or a suspicious man walking down the road, then do it on your own page.

It's the place to share excess garden fruit, borrow a tool, recruit a gang to hunt for your cat...

It's the place you make it. Work out some good guidance and offer to mod,
