To think Facebook community's groups are pathetic?

We bought our house last year on a new build estate and we joined the group before moving. I never ever comment on there mainly just for a nosey. Any how today their was a Asian wedding going on behind our house. And they are all going mad about the fireworks that lasted a mere 5 minutes. "My autistic kid can't sleep now" "it's so dangerous they could cause a fire" "my animals are going mad"

I commented telling everyone to get a life as it didn't last long! Then I realised one of my neighbours was the one going mad about it 🥴

It's seems all people do on these groups is moan! AIBU? Should I be a bit more sensitive? I have a newborn and 2 DC's under 5 and a dog and we all managed to survive the 5 minutes of fireworks.

OP posts:

What about complaints about poo bags left on tree branches by dog walkers. Anyone else get this? I flipping love these posts😃

WhoWants2Know · 16/08/2022 15:11

I love mine because it has posts like these. Also, kids can't get away with any misbehaviour because someone will see and post a photo.

We had a local shitter on ours too with CCTV footage of him squatting up the side of someone's house!

Much hilarity ensued with people tagging their mates and saying "this is you isn't it?" - and the culprit himself was eventually shamed into returning and clearing up after himself. This footage was also posted 😅

The ones I like are the inane comments when someone posts about avoiding a road because of a fire, or traffic accident, or the traffic light are broken, or something and people post

"Ooh, I only drove down there this morning"
or
"My Nan used to live on that road"

etc

Gee thanks Dave, that's been really helpful to me
Grin

😆😆

My community Facebook group today had doorbell video footage of someone who got caught short and had to squat for a poo on someone else's driveway. The passenger in their car got out, walked to the bonnet where she was shielding herself, gave her some tissue, and they left the whole lot there.

That's the drama I joined the group for.

Howling at this 😂

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 16/08/2022 15:32

Ours is funny, lots of fireworks warning posts and the usual people commenting about their poor dogs and kids being bothered by them. Who cares!

wednesday32 · 16/08/2022 15:32

Perhaps the community group is not tailored for you, if you only use it to nose, and not to contribute information, or need it for information. Whilst you are correct you cannot protect your pets from everything, there are laws in the UK for when fireworks can be set off, so people can ensure their pets are safe indoors. Perhaps it would have been helpful if the family celebrating with fireworks had let people know in advance.

OP I wonder if your the house behind me for the last 3 nights, They have had a huge tent up overlooking the valley. The music was blasting out across the valley every single night until the early hours of the morning.

when it`s hot weather and you have to have windows open, that is all the bloody valley could hear all sodding night. Not acceptable and highly anti social!

YANBU they are pathetic, and yet-hilarious. Grin

SheeWeee · 16/08/2022 15:41

OP you're whining on social media about people whining on social media, I suggest it's you that needs to get a life.

My local one is great. Really useful

that1970shouse · 16/08/2022 15:42

Mine's been quite good with stray animals recently, horse on cricket pitch, chickens invading kitchens... Love it.

LemonadeSunshine · 16/08/2022 15:44

Our main ones are from the area self-declared I AM A WOMAN TW offering talks about their 'journey', 'ask me anything', and offer of anonymous questions answered. The latest had two responses. Not many takers 🙄

CherryPoppins · 16/08/2022 15:49

We have had a lost parrot for weeks on mine, every day I check to see if Rocco been found.

He was last spotted perched on an ariel on top of someone's house.

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 16/08/2022 15:50

Oh yeah, we get loads asking if anyone's missing a parrot and a picture, they are wild parakeets

ScholesPanda · 16/08/2022 15:52

YANBU. Every year there is a major battle between the fireworks lovers and haters on our group in November, and again at New Year. Unfortunately for the haters, a couple of diehard lovers have started letting off even more fireworks every time they complain.
Other highlights are 'someone's parked near my house and I usually park there', and films of the houses who haven't taken there bins in, or who put them out on the wrong day.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 16/08/2022 15:56

I got banned from one because I asked the guy who let their dog poop in my garden if he was planning to come and pick it up or not?😂

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 16/08/2022 15:57

I find my local community group quite entertaining, and sometimes useful as well.

TheOrigRights · 16/08/2022 16:04

I just had a look at our village residents' page.
There is a chicken on the loose and a barking muntjac deer
Ad for a Bounce class.
Query about post office opening times and bus times.
I like the "as it's happening " updates when the ice cream van comes round.

Dalaidramailama · 16/08/2022 16:04

I live in a high crime area and our FB group is dead. Bar the odd pleasantry someone could get murdered and no one would even think to mention it.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 16/08/2022 16:06

Comment topics in ours at the moment:

The issue of dog poo (and the odd poo pic)
Dog walking on hot days
People bbq'ing at the recreation ground and concern about fire
Noise levels from local outdoor entertainment
Complaints about taxi company
Complaints about local Chinese takeaway
Occasional complimentary posts about local businesses
Complaints about drone use
Complaints about rubbish left behind in local park
Hosepipe use - controversial as not in a hosepipe ban area
Helping local Ukrainian families and others experiencing hardship

So some absolute bollocks but also some really important stuff.....

caoraich · 16/08/2022 16:06

Gosh, the WhatsApp group for my estate is very boring-ly useful. All requests for tradespeople recommendations, posts about useful stuff like "the post office has changed their opening hours" and of course lost pets. It's definitely one of the more benign groups I'm in!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 16/08/2022 16:06

Oh yes, and the odd escaped sheep....

maddiemookins16mum · 16/08/2022 16:08

They are hilarious.
I’m on one - today we’ve had…..
’is it the black or green wheelie this week?’
’enyone no of a plumber who can fix my shower’
’What time does Asdas shut tonight’

DeeCeeCherry · 16/08/2022 16:11

I avoid. Always racist undertones. Petty-minded nonsense. A helicopter flying overhead causes a frenzy of excitement then loads of comments 'Theres a helicopter flying over my house!'. Cue 20 'and mine..!' comments. Pompous, Tinpot Hitler admin.

Inevitably someone will make a scornful comment about the area being crime capital then thats it, they're off arguing.

I suppose if one loves drama and doesn't get enough of that in life (even tho its manufactured drama), local forums must be a good outlet
