To only start snack eating once movie starts?

So, if you are sitting down to watch a movie/ programme and you have your snacks ready, do you wait until it's actually started, everyone has got themselves sorted (if at home) or do you start eating at any time?

If at a cinema, do you start your popcorn in the trailers or wait for the main event?

This is just me thinking about this as dd who I hadn't discussed this with, said to me, "Eating snacks with the film is the best!" I tend to agree with her.

YABU - eat whenever you want
YANBU - eat when the main film/ programme starts

It’s the cinema, popcorn is the most endorsed snack. I think it was you being rude asking him to stop!

When you have had crunch crunch in your ear for an hour it does become really distracting and it was a full house so no where to move to.

And it was all very polite “sorry that’s really distracting” and he said “ah sorry” and he finished. Unlike a lot of conversations on MN there really was no angst and we all moved on with our day

If you don't like people eating popcorn next to you throughout the film, is the cinema really the place for you?

Parky04 · 18/07/2022 15:22

My minstrels are usually gone before the film starts!!

As soon as I sit down, I start. Usually with a burger 🤣 the cinema sells wee snack packs burger and chips, then move on to popcorn when the film starts.

I always wait. I think it's all the years of watching my sister eat it all super fast and run out.

Floydthebarber · 18/07/2022 15:29

At the cinema I start having a few little handfuls of popcorn one the trailers have started. Never during the adverts.

Gross. Eating in the cinema is gross. Don't understand it.

I'll never forget (many years ago) when odeon took over my local cinema and this topped doing butter popcorn. The cinema salted popcorn with loads of extra butter was amazing. Just salted now for me!

What's hard to understand?

Stopped snacking at home as part of a healthier eating / weight loss habit. But sometimes feel envious of the Gogglebox Malones and their cakes.

Can’t stand constant rustling and chomping at the cinema so I avoid sell out performances , Fri and Sat nights, and go and see my favourite low key European films at unpopular times of the day and week.

I might get a drink to take in but that will be gone by the end of the trailers / ads because I will have bought it due to thirst and don’t want it to get warm / hopelessly diluted with melted ice.

So I tick the miserable grinch option.

SuperCamp · 18/07/2022 16:01

I wouldn’t buy a ticket if it risked sitting near someone eating a burger.

MoodyTwo · 18/07/2022 16:12

My snacks are all eaten by the time the film starts ... I want to concentrate on the film not my loud crisps

Eyerollrsi · 18/07/2022 16:16

I only go to the cinema to have a huge bucket of popcorn to myself. I start it as I'm walking in to the cinema 😁

At home I'd wait until a film started (unless the snack was too irresistible).

Florenz · 18/07/2022 18:08

Cinema food is a WASTE OF MONEY. I don't know why anyone buys it. For the cost of a popcorn and a coke you could get a proper meal after or before the film.

There's always one who wildly misses the point of the thread but can't pass up to opportunity to reinforce their own ego by judging others.

I'm so sorry @Floydthebarber that wasn't meant for you it was meant for @Florenz

my grandma used to make me a little sandwich to eat in the cinema so I'd get the popcorn and the meal!
