What are we all doing today then?

I've been up since 6 with the baby. Elder dc have gone to school and I've tried to get most of my housework done this morning while it's still the cooler part of the day. Just popped up to the post office with the baby as I had some parcels that needed posting today. Had considered a short walk after (with the snooze shade on obviously) but it felt too hot even for that so we came back home.

Not sure what to do with the rest of the day. I'm lucky that I'm on mat leave and don't have to go to work. Really feel for anyone who is having to do real life in these temperatures. How are you all spending the day?

We are all indoors. DC on various electronic devices. Too hot outside for anyone to enjoy it. Great excuse to do nothing in summer holidays 🙂

Dropped DD1 at school this morning slathered in suncream and with lots of water then took DD2 to do the food shopping (with lots of food that requires no cooking!) Treated us to a cold drink ata café then came home by 10.30am as it was already 30c at that time.

We've made homemade limeade in a big jug and put it in the fridge for later. We're hiding indoors with the curtains and windows shut so the house is reasonably cool and just having too much screen time.

After I pick up DD1 we'll hopefully be able to sit in the garden as there'll be enough shade at that time but the forecast is saying 40c this afternoon so we'll see! I have lots of ice lollies in the freezer and we're just going to have crusty bread, cheese, paté and salad for dinner as I'm definitely not cooking in this heat.

If the bedrooms are too hot later we'll make an adventure of it and all camp out in the living room which has a tiled floor so is much cooler!

Job interview this morning. Thankfully via zoom so I didn't need to go anywhere and wear a stuffy outfit. Now that's over I can relax and spend the afternoon lounging on the floor watching TV trying to keep my mind off it. Ploughman's for dinner tonight I'm certainly not cooking.

ArnhemSquare · 18/07/2022 12:45

Having a drink of water as I support leaders to prepare for their OFSTED inspections, TOMORROW and Wednesday. 😱😡

It is going to be a long hot evening tonight for me, school leaders, governors, teachers and support staff.

And a very long hot day tomorrow for everyone, including the inspectors and the pupils.

Poo picked horse field at 6. 2 barrow loads because I chickened out yesterday afternoon. Working now, largely fielding complaints that branch air con has broken down. WFH with curtains drawn but it's still very warm, about 26, survivable though. DH is registering his dad's death today so he will need tea and sympathy when he gets home. Will go and hose down my horse after work. Dogs are refusing to go anywhere near the cooling mats I bought for them.

Ticksallboxes · 18/07/2022 12:50

I'm currently at home with all the windows open and a fan on - it's staying surprisingly cool.

Around 2.30 I'm meeting a friend on the beach and we're going to sit near the water under an over-sized parasol we bought in a panic at the weekend.

I was meant to be with DH today but he now can't WFH unfortunately, so really feel for him as he's doing something quite physical.

At work. My non-airconned office is the most naturally cold place on earth, so this is probably the first day ever that I haven’t needed to wear a coat/blanket/hoodie.

Just out for a lunchtime walk and spent the first 10 minutes avoiding shade as I slowly warmed up again.

It’s 32 right now and it’s lovely. Not looking forward to the bus ride home though.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 18/07/2022 13:10

I'm in my office which gets full sun all day every day. My wonderful office manager has set up a massive aircon next to my desk which is deafening but is making the room more bearable.
I'm avoiding walking across site to do a job I need to do though as it's baking out!

Shoxfordian · 18/07/2022 13:12

Working from home and melting

RockandRollsuicide · 18/07/2022 13:23

Bovril same! I've been up and down to washing line endlessly past few days, washing heavy fury item's like rugs, curtains etc.

I actually feel ashamed, one of dd duvets is still light and fluffy but old. I am amazed at how white it's come out!

I was out at 7am to water some flowers before I leave them to their fate.
Brought some others inside. I'm holed up inside, thankfully not at work this week although they did give staff the option to stay at home.

Dd went to school until midday.

Later on a gentle excersise class.

We have draped material's over the exterior of the house I think they're working well because when DH opened the back door a blast of really hot air hit me.

I’m on Mat leave but not for much longer 😩

today we have done some messy play after morning nap, I’m now sunbathing and baby napping, then will head for a walk when she wakes up 😁

BellaGoth · 18/07/2022 13:26

DC are at school, I'm working from home with a fan pointed directly into my office alcove thingy.
Hour obs on the animals - we have dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and an elderly gerbil (who's my biggest worry in her glass tank but seems OK with frozen rocks in there...)
Later... I run a brownie pack. Last meeting of term so a little party but the hall we meet in is bizarrely cold all the time so should be quite nice!

BellaGoth · 18/07/2022 13:27

Also, I learned how to make iced coffee today so I feel like I've achieved something important AND useful.

Babdoc · 18/07/2022 13:27

Playing online bridge this afternoon with the curtains pulled to shade my south facing sitting room, and windows open on the north side of the house. Salad and ice cream for lunch. Meant to be playing 2 hours of table tennis in the church hall of the next village this evening, but I think that might be a sweaty nightmare!

boymama82 · 18/07/2022 13:31

@BovrilMartini what book are you reading? I've recently read the secret but I need something to get lost in!

Galileu · 18/07/2022 13:35

Working at home. I'm freelance, so taking it easy, mostly. We've got a big, deep inflatable pool filled with cold water, so I'm going to lie in that as soon as it's in the shade.

DH taking DC to the woods for a shady stroll. Fridge filled with ice cold water. The front rooms of the house are cool and get no sun. We're doing fine so far!

nannybeach · 18/07/2022 13:51

Up at 6, which is usual this time of year. Quick cuppa, outside doggy "pickup" from 2 dogs, check green houses, make sure nothing wilted.shower/hairwash. Walked to shop/cash point money for DGD, Woke up DGKs, staying with us this week. Cook pancakes for one of them,(normally feeding dogs/fish/birds but DGD likes to do that. Made our bed,DGDs do their own now. DHSs packed lunch, drinks for DGD,left at 8, dropped her at school first, then him. Came home, piece of toast, one wash load, dishwasher done and put away. Sitting under the trees in the garden with a book, till I have to leave at 2.30 for the school run. Light meal, dogs and kids on the beach before bed.

nannybeach · 18/07/2022 13:54

DGSs packed lunch, not DH! He found it too hot even in the shade,so he vacuumed everywhere. Oh yeah,I cleaned out the bathroom

Crocsandshocks · 18/07/2022 13:58

Working from home today. Got the kids to school. Did a dog walk before 9. 30 whilst still reasonable temperatures. Did some work on the laptop. Just been to the tip to dispose of some bin bags that would otherwise stink in the heat.

Really want to go to the local beach for a swim, but only 1 hr til pick up so may be too much of a rush.

Just had some iced tea to cool down (yum) and think I will do a bit more work online before picking up dcs. I hope to get a swim in ASAP!

lightand · 18/07/2022 13:59

Resting
Back from a holiday and I am exhausted!

KatherineJaneway · 18/07/2022 14:00

Working at home. Curtains shut, doors and windows closed, fan on and just get on my my to do list.

SzeliSecond · 18/07/2022 15:04

Been waiting all day for school to finish so we can beach but it's really cloudy now so at a bit of a loss. Might do some decorating
