What are we all doing today then?

I've been up since 6 with the baby. Elder dc have gone to school and I've tried to get most of my housework done this morning while it's still the cooler part of the day. Just popped up to the post office with the baby as I had some parcels that needed posting today. Had considered a short walk after (with the snooze shade on obviously) but it felt too hot even for that so we came back home.

Not sure what to do with the rest of the day. I'm lucky that I'm on mat leave and don't have to go to work. Really feel for anyone who is having to do real life in these temperatures. How are you all spending the day?

I'm in the North East and it's only 26 degrees at the mo. It's my day off - I might have a walk, just incase it does get hotter later, but it's fine just now. I have a pilates class later tonight - I'll go along and see how it is. You don't move off the mat so I'm optimistic.

HikingforScenery · 18/07/2022 10:59

Carrying on as I do every Monday, including working. I When DC return from school, we might go and get some ice cream from the dairy farm nearby.

D0lphine · 18/07/2022 11:00

Working from home with the curtains shut like and absolute hermit.

Clearing up dog shit, as dog is I'll. I'm super glam.

BovrilMartini · 18/07/2022 11:04

I’ve washed my duvet and it’s drying now. Taking advantage of this weather in the most mundane of ways

School run and nursery run later but I’ll get a whole hour and a half to read my book in the garden later. Can’t wait

mydogisthebest · 18/07/2022 11:12

I have every window closed and all curtains to keep house cool. I am sitting on the sofa with a fan directed on me. There is another fan which one of my dogs is lying in front of. The other dog is in his bed.

I will barely move except for getting myself cold drinks. I will also be making sure my dogs are ok all day

SzechuanSally · 18/07/2022 11:17

Taken toddler to the park while there was a breeze and shade, had a mid morning snack in a cafe with air con, home for lunch and nap time now.

Supermarket later as it has air con, then home for paddling pool in the shade. So not hugely different from a normal day tbh!

neverbeenskiing · 18/07/2022 11:21

It's my day off. DS and I dropped DD at school this morning and went straight to the park. We were only there for 30 minutes before it started to feel hot and I could tell DS had enough...first time I've managed to leave the park without some form of bribery! We've done the food shop which took longer than normal as we were happy to potter around taking full advantage of the air con. We will stay indoors now until we have to pick DD up. I expect she'll be tired so i'll probably put a film on for them while I do a couple of jobs before tea then they can have a cool bath after. I intend to do as little as possible today as tomorrow I will be working in a sweltering school building (not a teacher) from 7.30am til 5.30pm. My office will be roasting but I am bringing an extra fan from home, a frozen water bottle and some ice lollies for any kids who pop in.

easyday · 18/07/2022 11:22

Got up early to walk the dogs. Usual domestic drudgery (dishwasher etc) and now having a cup of tea before I drill some holes in some planters. It's 32 degrees already so do not plan to do much afterwards other than sit in front of the fan reading/Mumsnet/ maybe even a movie!

FourChimneys · 18/07/2022 11:23

Did a few errands in town first thing. Lots of admin to do for my business so will do that in the coolest room of the house with a fan running.

Expecting a delivery so have ice cubes and lollies ready to offer the driver. Ditto the postman.

I really feel for everyone who has to work in unbearable conditions today and tomorrow.

Fabboush · 18/07/2022 11:25

I'm off work and was up very early. Got the house work done and two loads of laundry saying dry already!

I'm preparing the spare bedroom and bathroom for my Ukranian guest who arrives on Thursday.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/07/2022 11:26

I was up at 6am, lovely cool morning. Washing out, tidied up. Made a fruit jelly for later. Went for a swim at 8am, it was quite empty surprisingly. Popped to Aldi for some shopping. Home at 9.30.
Now chilling in the cool, dark lounge watching Game of Thrones. Doing fish finger/salad wraps for lunch. Lazing this afternoon, might have a snooze. Cinema tonight at 7.50pm, popping into the nice air conditioned Italian next door before hand for their Monday night special, two course for £12.00 at 6pm.

MassiveSalad22 · 18/07/2022 11:28

Amber area, 33 degrees currently.

Dropped 7 year old at school. Took 3 month old and 4 year old round for a cup of tea at neighbour’s house. Chilling with Bluey now. 4 year old has an hour at school this afternoon ahead of September. Will probably take ice lollies in a cool bag on the school run when I pick them up!

BigWoollyJumpers · 18/07/2022 11:33

It's 30c here now. DD in the garden sunbathing. We've just come back from holiday, so temp not so much of an issue. She is going to cinema this afternoon though, good call. Dh working in study, with just his swim shorts on. I am mouching about, washing down and out, dried in 20 mins. It was pretty cool last night, so house not too bad. All windows and curtains closed up at about 9am.

Red arrows just zoomed overhead - wonder how hot it is for them up in the sky!

girlfriend44 · 18/07/2022 11:35

Taking it easy!!

Siameasy · 18/07/2022 11:36

It’s 30 here. Just went for a walk and litter picking. Gonna hang the washing out and sunbathe with my feet in the paddling pool. I love just watching the creatures in the garden

itsthesoundofthepolice · 18/07/2022 11:38

I've walked the dog nice and early, second loaf of washing pegged out and now I'm away to work for a 12hr shift and will probably melt

Kapalika · 18/07/2022 11:41

SW London - I'm an evil grabbing nasty landlord, so have been in touch with workmen to sort out a leaky tap asap. Should be sorted tomorrow.
Breakfast for one child, the other still at school.
Prepping dinner for later,
Packing for us all. Holiday in 6 days!
Updating CV.

rightonthyme · 18/07/2022 11:43

WFH in a dark room, in front of a fan... needing a wee every five minutes thanks to all the water I'm drinking.

TheLostNights · 18/07/2022 11:50

34C here. Hiding in the house and trying to be productive wfh.

Mrsherdwick · 18/07/2022 11:51

Ive got a 90 minute dental appointment coming up (having a temp crown taken out and replaced with a permanent one). My last 90 minute appointment took over 2 hours. I’m so not looking forward to it.
I’ve already dried 2 full washing line loads of washing and it’s not even 12 o’clock.
NW here and it’s hot, hot, hot!

justamushypea · 18/07/2022 11:53

Working from home. My office looks out on to the garden and it isn't too hot at the moment. DH has gone to work but I expect he'll be home early any excuse!!

sleepylittlebunnies · 18/07/2022 12:25

I’m meant to be sleeping after night shift but still awake. Luckily not back in work tonight as need to pick DD10 up from school in less than 3 hours. DDog won’t be walked today but he’s happy at the moment lying next to me with the fan on. Pool ready for DC to cool down later.

House is a tip after working all weekend and wash basket full but couldn’t be bothered to do any of it. Might summon up the energy tomorrow as back to work Wednesday and rain forecast.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 18/07/2022 12:27

I took the dog out first thing, and had a friends' dog over mid-morning for a splash and play in our pool.

No plans for the rest of the day except I have a horse to feed around 5pm. Tried sitting in the garden but it's absolutely roasting so I'm currently watching Come Dine with Me Grin

IncompleteSenten · 18/07/2022 12:27

Nothing.
I'm not working today and I won't be working tomorrow either.
I'm in my bedroom with the blinds and curtains shut, fan on and frozen towel round my shoulders and telling my sons to remember to drink about a hundred times.

MinnieMountain · 18/07/2022 12:37

I got back from holiday in Slovenia at 1am, so I’m knackered.
I've done the school run, bought ice lollies, sorted our family holiday admin and set my bed up in the basement.
Now I’m inside listening to Radio 4 until I pick DS up.
We’re supposed to have chicken tagine for supper (which I have yet to cook) but PP’s mention of fishfingers and salad sounds much more appealing.
