Anyone going to work in a very hot/no aircon environment tomorrow?

I am working in resturaunt kitchens tomorrow 🥵 DH fixes machinery in a non-aircon environment and has to wear quite a thick hot uniform so feeling sorry for ourselves at the moment as we are in the area predicted 40 Degrees.

I feel particularly bad for hospital staff though, no idea how they will cope 😔

Solidarity with anyone else going into an environment tomorrow that will make the heat seem 100x worse 😓

Yes in a school that has no air con and lots of windows. It's like being in a green house. Oh and I'm not allowed to plug my fan in because it hasn't been pat tested.

PinkBuffalo · 17/07/2022 22:53

Only a stuffy office with no air or air con. Will be starting and leaving early so I hopefully not get stuck in awful traffic
really feel for anyone wearing ppe or working in kitchen etc

SucksToBeYouHun · 17/07/2022 22:54

I wish it wasn't true but unfortunately it is..their reasoning is the fans spread covid???? We haven't had a covid outbreak for over 8 months now (touch wood!!!!). But yes we get absolutely bollocked if we dare to put the fans on. While they all sit there in their well conditioned rooms. Roll on Tuesday the hottest day? We won't be taking any shit 👌😂

Doingtheboxerbeat · 17/07/2022 22:55

I mean yeah, working in an office - even with menopause symptoms is rough but there so many desk fans available and you can stay in one place, most of the time - but a kitchen 😱!!!

SarahAndQuack · 17/07/2022 22:56

Yes. I work in a plant nursery, in the polytunnels. It is generally about 10 degrees hotter inside than outside. It is likely we will all be assigned jobs where we're partly outside, but it won't be possible for everything to be outside.

BlackbirdsSinging · 17/07/2022 22:57

Yes primary school. It was built in the 60s and has a whole wall of windows. It’s basically like a greenhouse on one side. Plus ram packed with 32 kids.

This sounds exactly like my classroom. Sending solidarity!

NeedMoMoney · 17/07/2022 22:58

Yep, 25 weeks pregnant with twins, working in a very small very busy pharmacy with only one fan that only blows hot air! 🥵

PancakesWithCheese · 17/07/2022 22:59

Yes, in a hospital. No air con and we’re back in masks. Can’t wait!

SarahAndQuack · 17/07/2022 22:59

(And please everyone saying their workplace is 'like a greenhouse' ... spare a thought for those of us for whole the literal greenhouse is a blessed respite because it's not so bloody hot! Last week when it was 'only' 29 degrees outside it hit 40 inside, and we are doing a lot of heavy lifting in that heat.)

Thedogscollar · 17/07/2022 23:08

Labour ward tomoro for 12 hrs mask in situ. Can wear scrubs so at least that's a bonus. No air con in the rooms, fans only if we can find one and they work!

Feeling so sorry for anyone in labour tomoro 🥵🥵 will be keeping my lady and birth partner and myself hydrated on the hour.

YY, must be so hard for anyone in labour/supporting women in labour! Will be thinking of you.

DS works in a corrugated warehouse with a glass roof. He asked if he could borrow my little hand held fan and was really delighted with it. I haven't the heart to tell him it will be as useful as a chocolate teapot when he takes it with him tomorrow.

rickandmorts · 17/07/2022 23:29

Yep working in a kitchen which is in a glass building.. When I walk in it'll be at least 26 degrees. And I'm 21 weeks pregnant 😭😭😭

Smokealarmwakeup · 17/07/2022 23:33

I’m a food teacher in a room with a glass wall that’s hot in the middle of December. I’ve cancelled all of my practical lessons but the local primary school that come up for 2 hours on a monday morning have let me know they are still coming up to make burgers and wedges. 12 ovens for 90minutes isn’t how I want to start my day…. And then teach 80 kids in the room over the next 4 hours. For the first time in my career,
we’re watching films instead of working. I better get in early to try get it overruled!

Dogshark · 17/07/2022 23:49

Somewhat ironically this is a lovely thread. No racing to the bottom. People facing an awful time still taking time to spare a thought for those who have it worse off.

Wishing you all an occasional breeze!

Badgirlriri · 18/07/2022 00:20

Well done everyone. Professional people getting on with it 👍🏼
thankfully I’m on annual leave but will be thinking of you all.

DinasCopUniform · 18/07/2022 00:32

I work in a mental health unit for patients with disordered eating. As such, they feel cold most of the time, and turn the radiators up when we're not looking... The only aircon is in the nurse's office, and windows can only be open a teeny amount. We also have to wear masks all day, though fortunately no other ppe generally. I've just done 3 x 12 hour shifts and it's been unbearable. Purely by chance, tomorrow and Tuesday are my days off, I'm thinking of all of you that have to go through this. Keep going, it will soon be over 💪💪

FarmGirl78 · 17/07/2022 22:42

Ughhh. I've got 18 housebound patients to visit tomorrow. They're all little old dears who have their gas fires on full blast all year round, regardless of the weather. If its really hot they might turn their fires down to just 2 bars for a couple of days in August. It's roughly a 2 minute drive between each house, so neither me or my car air con has chance to cool down in between. And I'll be wearing a mask, surgical gloves and sweaty sweaty plastic apron.

I went in one house (I was sweltering) and she had underfloor heating on. Even the cat was outside in protest

Skelligsfeathers · 18/07/2022 00:39

Yep, a classroom with 28 kids. Room os hot at the best of times.

NorthernLights5 · 18/07/2022 00:48

Yep in a care home where the heating has be on full blast for the hot water to work, masks, no fans and not even allowed to swap our polyester uniforms for plain cotton t shirts. The manager and admin are of course allowed to dress down and sit in front of a fan all day. We're not even allowed to put a drink in the fridge!

IdiotCreatures · 18/07/2022 00:50

Team building exercises. Outside. Volleyball has been mentioned.
Still getting over COVID (testing negative now damnit...)
Tomorrow is going to be a big pile of steaming poo...

N1C · 18/07/2022 00:51

I work in hospital, I think I'll be ok wearing scrubs - yes it will be hot but I couldn't deal with working in a hot kitchen. I have a lot of respect for those working in kitchens at the best of times.

FlissyPaps · 18/07/2022 00:53

Work in a hospital (admin) in an old part of the building so no aircon.

Going to take a huge fan to have on my desk, blinds shut, lots of water.

Im going to try and not complain because it’s the clinical staff and patients who will be feeling it the most 😪

Thoughts are with all of you! Stay safe everyone x

Scabetty · 18/07/2022 00:56

Classroom with no aircon or a fan as we can’t afford them apparently. I have hot flushes so will be a puddle by break. Oh and to top it off the holy statues (faith school) have an electric fan installed which ‘can’t be removed’. It may go missing 🥵
