To ask people to please not quote post the OP?

Especially when it’s one that is multiple paragraphs. It goes as standard that you’re replying to the OP and it makes threads so painful to follow.

If people need to do quote posts can’t they just select the particular sentence or two that they’re querying/ responding to?

OP posts:

Oh the thread police are about. Thinking they can tell people how they post

It's a request not an order - calm down now need for nonsense. 🙄

It's a stupid function hopefully NN removes it.

Yes I'm not sure why this is a thing now! It annoys me too as it's not needed. Seems to be a habit maybe from some other forums?? That said I just scroll past the responses who quote the OP (especially if they one of the fist few to post) and carry on as normal!

Just tag the person you're replying to. Simples. And no scrolling down and down pages of repeated crap.

Not sure it's an enhancement at all..............

I want to see what they are replying to easily, I don’t want to have to scroll back looking to find the post they are replying to.

How many more threads about the same thing do we have to suffer ?

Sparklingbrook · 18/07/2022 10:04

The threads about this are more frequent than the quoting the OP thing. 😂

Yes, a valid point that needs repeating again and again until people get it.

If you want to agree with someone you can now type @ and the first couple of letters of that poster's username and a list of names on the thread comes up for you to select from. This is a new feature I DO like! But it doesn't seem to stop people from quoting paragraphs of text just to say "agree" or whatever.

The only thing with that, is sometimes you don't remember what a certain poster said, so no idea what they're agreeing with. I'm trying to train myself not to cars, but mostly it involves then searching for the post they're agreeing with, unless it's the OP I think it's better to quote the post you're agreeing with!

But, @WinterMusings - if you have to scroll back to find the post you agree with then you will find the poster's name right there.

No, you said poster x could just @ poster 'A' to say 'this' without quoting them & yes you can, but when I get to poster x who has just @ poster A & not quoted them, , I have no idea what the poster A said, so I have to find their post to read it.

as I said, I'm trying not to care what poster A said, but then you lose the conversation.

it's much better to just quote the post if it's not the OP and now MN have done the squishing it really doesn't matter how many posts are copied.

pigsDOfly · 18/07/2022 15:57

Yes, yes, absolutely right OP.

Quoting the OP seems to be a recent trend and obviously, those posters saying they haven't seen it very often, haven't been on the same thread as I have because it seems to be everywhere.

Can someone who does this please explain to me why they think it's necessary.

It's the OP, it's what the thread is about, it doesn't need to be quoted half a dozen times throughout the thread.

It's really annoying.
