Cat had 6 teeth out today advice pl?

My cat has had 6 teeth removed this afternoon and since got home she's just sat staring into space. Her tongue is sticking out. It looks like she's been beat up.

She is really wobbly so removed the cat trees and she will sleep downstairs tonight as in not on our bed. I'm sleeping down here too.

I'm really upset and stressed as she seems really sick. Family are saying so would anyone after having 6 teeth out. I've not had pet before so this is all new to me.

Can anyone share their own experiences or advise what I can do, should be looking out for?

My vets open at 9 am in the morning.

Did you get additional pain relief? Just keep her topped up. She'll be recovering from the anesthetic. I've had lots of cats go through surgery. You keep the environment quiet and do what you are doing. Were you advised on what to feed her for a couple of days? Follow what you have been told. She'll bounce back to normal very quickly. Just keep her in while she is healing.

Herbaceousborder · 15/07/2022 23:25

I think she'll be much better in the morning, cats seem to react strangely to anaesthetic.
Several of my older cats have had teeth removed and they recovered quite quickly.

Enidcat5 · 15/07/2022 23:26

Hi she'll have had sedation so be feeling very groggy. Let her rest and keep an eye on her. Did they give you an information sheet for post surgery care?

Onlyhuman123 · 15/07/2022 23:29

Our cat had some teeth removed last year and again last month. Both times, he came home like he'd been on crack! Spaced out eyes, wobbly hind legs and he would just flop down rather than a controlled sit down iyswim. It's all the anaesthetic, pain killer and antibiotics they have to have before, during and after the op. It took our cat a good 24 hours before his pupils were back to normal and walked properly. He was 13 and 14 at the time of his ops. Try not to worry, it does sound normal but check with the vet at 9am if no improvement. Hope he gets well soon OP 🙏

SarahSissions · 15/07/2022 23:31

Do you have insurance? Many have a 24 hour televet service they you can use for free-can usually get an appointment in 20 mins or so and are great at telling you if things are normal or not and may put your mind at rest. My instinct would be groggy from the procedure, you’d be feeling woozy and sore too

DeanStockwelll · 15/07/2022 23:38

My old cat had to have a few teeth out he was 12 at the time but still healthy but obviously because of his age we were concerned about the anaesthetic.

He was really dozy for the next day , and for the 1st few hours he was cross eyed !

Leave your puss be for the night make sure he doesnt have to walk to far for water or to his litter tray ( I wouldn't let him out because he will be disorientated )
With a good night sleep and a day dozing he should be fine by tomorrow evening.

Don't feed him any hard food / treats , very small amounts of soft food but don't be worried if he doesn't want to eat.

Don't worry about her ( sorry for calling her a him ) not been able to hold food in her mouth , even once my old boy started to get better it took him a few days yo get the hang of eating again partly because it was some of his front teeth that were removed it yook him a while to figure out he had to keep his gob shut to keep the food in !

My current over lord is a indoor cat too , it's fun taking them out on a lead isn't it it goes walk > dash > stand still for no reason > dash > pee > try to get under car > growl and spit like buggery if he sees another cat ( this is why he is a indoor cat he scraps with all other cats ) > dash > sit down for a long wash > stare into space and contemplate the world and life > go home

Lagertha6 · 16/07/2022 03:57

Hahah the walking, dash and sit down sounds v familiar. She's terrified of her own shadow though so when we are in the garden if she hears next door she runs back into the house whilst I try to keep up.

Overlord love it.

Ours definitely has us wrapped around her finger. I'm currently asleep on the living floor whilst she is on the couch.

She normally sleeps on our bed with me (DP antisocial hours) but I didn't want to chance her being wobbly an falling down the stairs.

It's probably just a reaction to the anaesthetic. One of mine had five teeth removed, he was fine.

DeanStockwelll · 16/07/2022 07:22

For such small creatures they really do rule the roots dont they.

I hope you both manage to get a good nights sleep and she is a little more herself this morning but dont worry if she is still a little groggy and spaced out

ISaidHeyWhatsGoingOn · 16/07/2022 07:38

Can I ask how much the procedure costs? I think this is something my older cat is going to need in the near future.

BoxOfCats · 16/07/2022 07:57

Mine were really wobbly on their feet for a few hours after sedation.

You can get soups in pouches for cats, it might be worth getting a few as she may not be able to chew properly until healed. They're not meant to replace normal cat food as they're not nutritionally complete, but you could mix a bit of some regular pate style wet food in so it's easier to eat.

MWNA · 16/07/2022 08:07

I'm currently asleep on the living floor whilst she is on the couch.

You sound like an amazing owner. Lucky cat. 🥰

Gingerkittykat · 16/07/2022 10:12

I hope your kitty is less wobbly now.

Something worth doing is flushing out the sockets using a medicine syringe after she has eaten to stop debris from building up in there.

Lik-e-lix are also fantastic if she is struggling to eat right now.

In 2018, mine had 6 teeth out and it was £430.

Rainbowdrop22 · 16/07/2022 11:05

I adopted a cat with very few teeth (so no help on the surgery recovery). I found she couldn’t handle very solid food at all, but really enjoyed cat soup and also the pate cat food with a bit of water and mashed up.

I still dry heave at the thought of that cat slurry, but she loved it.

Lagertha6 · 17/07/2022 02:03

Hi it was 450 for teeth out then 150 for lab analysis as took swabs.

She has brightened up throughout the day thanks. She's drank water, used the litter and had some pate/Yoghurt things. She's hunting bugs right now so she must be on the mend x thanks so much for asking x
