I was recently in a restaurant and went to the loo. The woman in the next cubicle was obviously having a poo, ( I could hear her clearly). I left the cubicle and went over to the hand basins to wash my hands. The woman who was having a poo came out and headed straight for the door. I instantly noticed that she had the waitress uniform on. I was so disgusted I shouted "excuse me, are you a waitress here?" "yes" she smiled. "You are serving people and you don't" wash your hands!" I said. She just looked at me and walked out! I felt sick.

My friend who works in a local restaurant never washes her hands in the public toilet. Because they must sanitise hygienically with antibacterial before entering the kitchen, handling any food, and touching other surfaces. Perhaps this restaurant isn't as fastidious. Or maybe your rude comment without any justification wasn't worth an answer.

Sorry, what, that is not an excuse, washing your hands after using the loo is automatic surely.

goldengirlsoncraic · 15/07/2022 20:40

I was going in to a takeaway and the woman outside was smoking.
She came in,was about to handle food and I asked her to wash her hands as she'd been smoking.

She did but she had a race like a slapped arse.

catandcoffee · 15/07/2022 20:48

Having worked in catering you'd never eat out again , if you knew what happens behind the scene.

Just best not to think about it. 😐

fridayfundaynow · 15/07/2022 20:49

I think you did the right thing OP!

I hate it when people in shops lick their fingers before touching bags and then handling food. I've told people off about this, especially during the pandemic.

I've come to the conclusion that some people don't have any concept of hygiene. I went to a cafe where someone was handling a piece of cake with their hands and I told them I had changed my mind and didn't want it. It was the same when someone scooped out marshmallows with their hands for a hot chocolate.

Maybe I'm a bit OCD but I would hate to pass anything onto anyone through not washing my hands or being hygienic. I carry hand sanitizer around with me.

fridayfundaynow · 15/07/2022 20:50

That should be NOT being hygienic.

honeybeesknees · 15/07/2022 20:50

Antibacterial sanitiser is not a replacement for soap and water after going to the loo! Washing your hands should be as instinctive as putting on your seatbelt in the car, and if it isn’t, I would think she’s the sort of person who wouldn’t think to sanitise them anyway. It’s absolutely vile OP and well done you for calling her out.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 15/07/2022 20:51

And what did management say when you complained?

I have heard that ice in drinks that is scooped out of the bucket in the pub has millions of germs due to the people scooping the ice accidently putting their fingers in it.

This and seeing the chefs smoking outside. 🤮 puts you off ever eating out.

Irridescantshimmmer · 15/07/2022 20:56

Ewwwwwww
If thats not gross, I don't know what is

Herbaceousborder · 15/07/2022 20:58

I remember being in a department store in America which actually had a sign up on the toilet wall encouraging the public to report if staff didn't wash their hands. Regarding using sanitisers before entering the kitchen that's quite irrelevant if she thinks it ok to spread faeces on door handles and uniform along the way.

shrunkenhead · 15/07/2022 21:00

She should wash get hands regardless of whatever she's done in said toilet but how was she "obviously having a poo"?!???

Livingthedreaminscotland · 15/07/2022 21:03

My partner once saw a lady change her sanitary towel in a food van as she was making food. She thought no one had saw her as no one was standing at counter. But my partner was just approaching from the other side. He Never went back there. 🤢

Omg that's just rotten 🤮

Mariposista · 15/07/2022 21:24

Uggghhhh this is revolting. The amount of people I see at the gym coming out of the toilet and heading straight for the door to the gym or pool - totally revolting. But a waitress in a restaurant - that is something else! I would have told the manager.

shrunkenhead · 15/07/2022 21:27

@Poppyseed14 but surely if you're using a public toilet you lay down loo roll so no noise and spray your VIPoo?!

CuriousCatfish · 15/07/2022 21:34

Grim and vile and I'd be shaking and crying etc etc etc...

1dontunderstand · 15/07/2022 21:35

The amount of people who leave cubicles in public loos that don’t wash their hands is disgraceful!
I was with a friend in a public loo at a beach, we had a loud conversation stating as much, everyone who left a cubicle after hearing us, washed their hands!

1dontunderstand · 15/07/2022 21:40

@Jalisco thats just disgusting! Your friend won’t wash her hands if she’s had a poo in a public loo? She waits until she washes and sanitises her hands in an appropriate place! Can’t she wash her hands after a poo and then wash/sanitise again?!?!

chopc · 15/07/2022 21:51

This is as bad as when I saw a beautician come out of the bathroom in her uniform and not wash her hands ...... maybe she was needing to adjust her bra (I hope) as she wasn't carrying a bag

MugginsOverEre · 15/07/2022 22:20

I worked in a restaurant that was tiny but very exclusive. Outwardly. It looked fancy but was actually fake, cheap and nasty as hell. It was a themed place that only required a small amount of well paying customers to stay til the early hours so only had 3 members of staff and the owner. Two chefs and me as bartender and waitress.
The owner just wandered around schmoozing the customers most of the time but did jump in to serve from the bar. That's where it got nasty.
He would pee in the toilet at the back of the kitchen but wouldn't close the door so you'd see his back. You knew what he was doing but he never washed his hands. Ever.

The fancy bar was just sinks behind the scenes filled with ice. He had spirits up on the wall but everything else came out of pop bottles under the high bar. There was only one kind of beer and two wines. House white and house red. They were marketed as fancy but were off the back of a lorry I think and there were at least 50 crates in the cellar.

The wine bottles were brought up regularly and laid in the ice sinks. If the wine hadn't got chilled enough he would pour a glass filled with ice (that he used his dirty fingers to get as he wouldn't let me use a scoop or small glass) then he'd wait a minute and the. pour the wine from the ice glass, through his fingers into a fresh glass, sieving the ice out. Envy (not envy)

I was so grossed out that I couldn't stop myself from washing my hands constantly and ended up with sore, bleeding skin. I knew it was time to move on to another job.

Used to bring in at least £200 in tips most nights too and the boss kept every penny. Wage was shit too.

Hutchy16 · 15/07/2022 22:22

Fake

Bonjovispjs · 15/07/2022 22:31

I agree with @catandcoffee I worked in a beefeater restaurant as a teenager, the manager was a real arsehole who had a german shepherd that would wee in the kitchen where food was prepared, I also remember a customer sending a steak back, the chef chucked it away and the manager got it back out of the bin. You may have caught this waitress, but believe me that is the tip of the iceberg and there's a lot worse going on than what she did.
