Lighthearted (not really though, I'm sort of jealous)...
What the heck is everybody ranting on about hot weather in the U.K.?
It's been highs of 17 here today, lows of 9. LOWS OF 9!
Yesterday had a high of 16.
My heating actually came on earlier this week.
I'm hoping for a bit of warmth next week (fingers crossed).
Is there anybody else out there that feels like their little microclimate missed the memo that's it's supposed to be hot?

East here - hottest part of the weather map!

last couple of days have been warm but this evening it was too chilly to sit in the garden.

007DoubleOSeven · 14/07/2022 23:14

Going to be 37°C here next week and I'm really worried about some vulnerable family members 😕🥵

Meraas · 14/07/2022 23:20

This is a week for north facing gardens to rejoice! (not me sadly)

My elderly mum’s living room is on the cool side and she is managing fine.

BashfulClam · 15/07/2022 01:13

In Glasgow it’s the fair weekend so it should be raining as per tradition. It’s going to be 28c on Tuesday apparently. I have Monday off as local bank holiday.

MajorCarolDanvers · 15/07/2022 08:45

It's raining today.

And currently 13C

raspberryrippleicecream · 15/07/2022 08:52

We are all different. North of England and rejoicing in our cool weather! I still had the patio doors open all day yesterday with our high of 16 degrees. Dreading the 34 degrees forecast next Tuesday

I've got my hearing on in scotland. Right now. ☃️

What temperature is it there that you need your heating on?

Every summer I start looking at houses in Scotland on Rightmove. But then I think of the winters....

Depends where you go. We moved from midlands in England to NE Scotland. So far we’ve had tons of sunshine this summer. A few days of 26c. Winter wasn’t that much colder than I’m used to, more snow but only one significant fall that had us home for a full day.
Scotland is a big place and the weather isn’t the same. Also look at north east England, cooler than the south but plenty dry!

I'very had mine of for a bit this week when it was 12-13C plus wind and dark clouds so felt colder.

Stevienickssnickers · 15/07/2022 10:03

18 degrees with rain showers for the last few days here. Did that classic thing where I didn't look at the forecast properly and got caught out in my shorts and t-shirt because I read "UK heatwave" and assumed they meant all of the UK.

WatchoRulo · 15/07/2022 10:04

YANBU OP but as with anything else, unless it happens in London it doesn't exist as far as the media is concerned.

ilovesooty · 15/07/2022 10:05

High of 18© here today.

DappledThings · 15/07/2022 10:08

I'm in Kent and it's very pleasant today. Feels like low 20s. Bit of cloud cover. I'd be happy if it never went over that.

It's not been that hot here yet and I'm the first yo complain about the heat. Next week going to be awful but only for a few days. Not like 2018 which went 30+ for over a week and was hideous.

Where I live, I can count the number of non windy days recently on one hand, and by recently I mean the past few months. It's been awful here, windy a lot, and raining sometimes. Haven't had the heating on since early may. 12-13 isn't that bad, put a jumper on or something, I wouldn't bother with heating. But if you don't mind paying the high charges, go ahead I guess.

Fairislefandango · 15/07/2022 10:33

Yep, it's 15° here and rainy. The highest it's supposed to get up to in the next week is 24° on Monday, which is about ideal for me. Apart from that I think it's mostly supposed to be between 16 and 19. I really dislike very hot weather!

Thecrystalempire · 15/07/2022 10:39

I always forget just how far north parts of northern Scotland are. Then I read threads like this where people up there have their heating on 😂

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/07/2022 10:44

Scotland here too - yesterday I was in a mohair cardigan to stave off the heating going on! Lashing rain on and off all day.

The highest temperature forecast next week is 22, but also rain, where we are. I would love some hot weather!

Akitamum · 15/07/2022 10:46

Me! It's raining here this morning, definitely no heatwave for us! Kind of glad it's not too hot but a little heat would be nice 😀

rushrushflat · 15/07/2022 10:49

Well the met office has just issued a red weather warning for Monday and Tuesday so let's see shall we.

AffIt · 15/07/2022 10:55

KnittingNeedles · 14/07/2022 21:52

We're in Glasgow. It's been warm-ish today but certainly not roasting hot.

Yep.

Fairly temperate 16C and overcast in Glasgow today.

However, there's a sizeable number of people on MN who seem to think that the country starts at Maidstone and stops at Birmingham.

BigWoollyJumpers · 15/07/2022 10:56

I was just saying to DH how the weather is always generalised by the media, and focused on the South, but in reality temps vary hugely across the country, of course they do!

Additionally, in the South, and Surrey in particular, we regularly, and for years, have long hot summers, some of the hottest temps, temps of 26/28 for weeks on end and little rain. We are pretty acclimatised. So, for me, for example, 32/34 would be hot, and 37/38 exceptional, but mid to high 20's is just perfect, low 20's cool. I still have my 12 tog duvet on for example. I will take it off on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday.

I'm in Scotland and forecast 31 and 33 on consecutive days early next week. Can't wait

hownowpurplecow · 15/07/2022 11:08

We’re in Angus, it’s raining and chilly here today but we’ve had some nice weather. Makes a big difference from the summers we’ve been used to down south, but at 6 months pregnant I am glad of the gentle breezes and occasional bursts of sunshine! I honestly couldn’t cope with London temps right now, and next week looks hideously hot where we used to live.

TBH I am in Glasgow and our winters are not especially bad 🤷‍♀️
