What on earth are they on about?

i thought they were all “world beating” and “record levels of this that and the other”

but they get rid of boris and suddenly the truth is out

the economy needs fixing
the nhs needs fixing
every fucking thing needs fixing seemingly….

how can they be so incredibly unself aware?

i thought the only thing that people trusted them on was the economy.

and think they’ll be able to bribe people with phantom tax cuts? Where’s the magic money tree they were blethering in about?

bunch of liars. And incompetent liars at that.

is anyone actually going to vote for them ever again?

Yes, the electorate are largely stupid when it comes to shooting themselves in the foot, but critical thinking is not usually taught at school. The state education system is great at churning out automata who don't think beyond the headline, but is also one of the reasons we have terrible labour shortages. And the young may be left leaning but they are also unengaged and don't vote. The right wing media bears a huge amount of responsibility but the politicians gave the likes of murdoch (who is poison) all of this power.

I honestly despair. Johnson will get another cabinet position if Truss or Badenoch become PM, and probably be reelected as PM himself in the future. I can't see a labour or coalition government getting in at the next GE. The line of 'there isn't an alternative to the tories' is trotted out with scary frequency. Democracy is dead in the UK.

I am not sure a person who appears to believe that Boris Johnson is going to get a cabinet job and be PM again is in any position to be calling other people stupid.

Unfortunately, the Tory PR has done a really good job of persuading a lot of working people that there is no viable alternative to a Tory PM. In recent weeks I have heard the following arguments from fairly sensible people:

  • The state of the economy is not due to our Government, it's a global pandemic and war in Ukraine

  • Bexit didn't bring the chaos that remainers warned of so it's not something to talk about anymore. Any anyway, Brexit was not a Tory thing.

  • The NHS is in a bad state due to obesity and pandemic. Labour would just waste loads of money on more NHS managers.

  • If we increase taxes on the wealthy and big businesses they will all leave the UK and everyone will be left unemployed

  • If labour were in power everyone would be on strike all the time

I have a terrible feeling that the next general election will give us another Tory government who will basically sell off the NHS to their mates, reduce taxes for the well off (whilst increasing payroll taxes and VAT to pay for the cost of Covid and the inevitable economic crash) and screw over the state education system (since their kids won't have to use it so who cares).

And anyone who doesn't see it as a possibility is pretty dumb too. Trump may well become the next POTUS which I wouldn't have thought possible in the aftermath of the Capitol riots.

TooBigForMyBoots · 15/07/2022 21:23

I agree with @CalistoNoSolo. Neither Trump, nor Johnson have gone away.

MangyInseam · 15/07/2022 21:42

I think you would see this no matter what party was involved - they have to convince the party members and MPs to vote for them.

As far as getting the economy back on track I would say that's mainly covid related.

SarahSissions · 15/07/2022 22:00

Maybe things need fixing because of external factors like Covid, Russia, global oil prices…

Which every other country is having to deal with as well and still they are growing their economy and we are not.

Choosing which Tory to vote for must be like choosing which portaloo to shite in, 3 days into a festival.

Personally I hope Rishi wins. Not because I like the cunt or I think that a multimillionaire is the best person to guide the common people through a cost of living crisis. But because it’s going to present a real moral dilemma to the racist twazzocks who voted for the tories/brexit to keep all them brown people out 😵‍💫.

Like my dad for example. I put this to him last night and he concurred it would be a bit of an issue, then mumbled something about how Rishi knows his stuff or some bollocks like that.
