I have v fun and wild parties without a bar.

Creepy! And probably a swinger...

MoveBitch · 13/07/2022 07:45

It's funny how the meaning of chav seems to have changed over the years, when I was growing up a chav was poor, council estate raised, wearing tracksuits, and being confrontational.

Now apparently chavs have garden bars and can afford to drive white Audi's.

Isn't it just a post covid stay at home fad (close relative of the man cave?)... people need to find joy where they can (as long as not causing antisocial noise or whatever).

They may go the way of the 1980s living room bar (del boy style) eventually.

GrowlingManchego · 13/07/2022 07:48

No one I know has one 🤷‍♀️ Just nice patios or decks.

shedwithivy · 13/07/2022 07:48

Oh and pizza ovens... which people but forgetting we only get 4 weeks a year of nice weather

I know. It was obvious.

It was pretty good but the last line ruined the tone a bit. You're going for a harmless Little Britain vibe here, not actively crass and offensive.

ImJustACuriousBird · 13/07/2022 07:51

I thought that until I went to a party with one.

It made it!

After reading your post I tried to imagine what it would have been like without the bar in the corner and it would have absolutely not been the same at all. It would have felt like going to a farm without animals in it... kind of empty; wrong!

I was surprised though.

Well back in the day they wore Burberry. Even Emma Watson couldn't fix that one, but then again she is an idiot, albeit a beautiful and privileged one.

Even though you are a full 100 on the chavtastic metre, your back is he least of your problems.
Your bulldog probably has more manners than you. Most neighbourhoods have one of you. Loud, brash, tasteless and entitled. The one they complain about at the school gates.
reminds me of Harry Enfield…LOADSA MONEY!
but absolutely no class or decorum with a shit attitude to boot.
A Superchav!

Luminousnose · 13/07/2022 07:52

Meh, don’t really see the point of them myself, but then we have lots of French doors so can open the house up to the garden. If we had a different type of house set up, perhaps I’d want a bar/outdoor room the garden. So I’m on the fence.

LoudingVoice · 13/07/2022 07:53

Haven’t read the thread.

Misread the title as BRAS in peoples gardens and was expecting something quite different…

As you were 😂

Mostly knock offs round my way, maybe a legit Burberry scarf

Oh god no don't you know? Members of Mumsnet are all squeaky clean, brilliantly intelligent people, who would never do something so mundane as pass judgement on something, or have opinions. 😄Only their husbands have opinions, and they just repeat them.

Of course they are passing judgement on op right now, but they can't see that...

For what it's worth, I think they just look stupid. It's the same with the artificial grass and anything else that looks like it would belong on love island. I've seen house adverts saying the bar/hot tub/other crap will be left behind in the sale. It bloody would not be if I was buying it. 😂

Now even more has been added to the list @ILikeHotWaterBottles someone has just added to the ‘chav’ list nail/lash/hair extensions 😅

I apply beautiful (and they are beautiful, I’m good at my job 😇) natural looking lash extensions to ladies of all ages and none of them are ‘chavs’ and one of my clients has the most beautiful, collar bone length extensions and you’d never tell. I’m going to get some myself for a little length and fullness and I’m certainly not a ‘chav’.

The rudeness on this thread from some people is terrible but I suppose it helps make them feel better!

You sound very try hard!! I bet you’re one of those I’m ‘mad me’ types!

5128gap · 13/07/2022 07:57

Absolutely. Gardens are there purely to signify your respectability and social class to your neighbours. Great care should be taken to allow no object to be visible that may lead others to believe you are not a person of class. I would include in this rotary washing lines, flowers in vulgar shades and friends with regional accents.
Nothing annoys me more than people lowering standards in persist of enjoyment of their properties.

shedwithivy · 13/07/2022 07:58

@Changechangychange

This is very interesting... where I grew up in the north of England, individuals from the social class people are trying to describe... would refer to each other as "chav or chavvy" similar to calling them "our kid" or "bro" in a friendly way, often to a younger friend or relative. I suspect the word origin is probably what you describe.

Hotinnit · 13/07/2022 07:58

Stop nosing in their gardens?

Eyelashes down to her collarbone? Definitely chavvy. Do her lips extend out further than her nose?

willowglass · 13/07/2022 07:59

They always put them right up against the neighbours fence to cause max noise nuisance.

Quia · 13/07/2022 08:00

Bars in both houses and gardens are naff. But I can't say I come across so many of them that I can claim to be fed up with seeing them.

Hm2020 · 13/07/2022 08:02

I’d love one what a kill joy you sound op

MercurialMonday · 13/07/2022 08:03

One of the houses we looked at had one in neighbours garden right next to the house boundary - that and other things did put us off that house.

We assumed regular wild parties - and as we had then primary school kids we weren't keen.

Pocolovo · 13/07/2022 08:05

I think they look really stupid! Get yourself out of your garden and go support your local pub.

They are definitely favoured by certain types for sure!

D0lphine · 13/07/2022 08:05

I think it sounds awesome at times like this! Future proofing against global warming!!
