I need to buy a gift for my sons TA, she’s much more than that she’s now like family. She’s been with my son for seven years. He’s gone from being non verbal to verbal with her among other things. She’s been amazing. I wanted to get her something that she could look at to remember that would last. I was going to get know earring for friendship but after thinking about it realised that they would clash with her bung.

is Tiffany as a brand now tacky/ outdated? I’m thinking of getting her necklace, not a love heart return to Tiffany’s, a more subtle not obvious necklace, probably a friendship knot.

it is an expensive gift (for us) but want something that will last.

I have asked on style and beauty but wanted to widen the views to more people who aren’t as fashion conscious if that makes sense.

It’s a lot of money to spend on something when you’re not 100% sure on her personal style.

Also consider that although very generous and thoughtful, that value of present might make her feel a bit uncomfortable, especially if it’s something she’s not keen on. I have a few pieces of jewellery that I’ve been given as gifts sitting unused in a drawer, and I feel a horrible guilt every time I come across them.

Same here

well I'd love to receive a little blue box. I'm 30 and have quite simple taste.

ThreeLittleDots · 12/07/2022 19:13

I think jewellery is really personal, and would give her a giftcard.

ThreeLittleDots · 12/07/2022 19:14

Photo frames, a jewelry dish, a keepsake box

Most people don't want this sort of tat given to them, no matter where it comes from, though.

Agree that a heartfelt letter and photo is much better.

Anything over £25 has to be declared and permission sort to keep the time. Just keep that in mind.

Does it? I'm a TA, never heard of this. How would you know the value unless it came with a receipt? Could have been something gifted to the giver or picked up at a car boot sale.

ChagSameachDoreen · 12/07/2022 19:19

That's so excessive. Buy her a mug or a box of chocs.

Dita73 · 12/07/2022 19:21

It’s tacky

InFiveMins · 12/07/2022 19:22

Tiffany is not dated nor tacky. Get the necklace. If I were the recipient I'd be delighted.

chiffchaffchiff · 12/07/2022 19:24

I'm not normally one for brands and I wouldn't buy it myself but I'd be overjoyed to see a box from Tiffany & Co. I have quite simple taste but there is something special about it.

Justrealised · 12/07/2022 19:27

We've bought presents for staff for years and she buys my son a present every Christmas, birthday, valentine, Easter etc most recently a lego set about £100. I really don't think that school would say anything at all. I'm getting the sendco a huge bouquet of flowers and some wine too as a thank you.

She does wear jewellery and it us really delicate apart from the bung.

I really don't want to give her a gift card.

Just to say as well, thank you all for the replies. I do appreciate it.

Look up the Dower and Hall hammered silver bangles.

I wear some silver Tiffany bits and don’t share the disdain MN has fir the brand, but the bangles might be more her.,

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 12/07/2022 19:36

Agree though, jewellery and perfume are very personal and hard to get right, but absolutely see why you don’t want it to be a gift card.

rivertoskateaway · 12/07/2022 19:38

I have a few Tiffany pieces and love them, but was really disappointed when a bracelet that I got for my birthday broke after only a couple of months. They don’t have any warranty period and did not want to refund or repair, which is disappointing when you consider the price!

What's a bung?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/07/2022 19:49

What's a bung?

I think its one of those pieces in a lobe stretch ( I could be miles out though )

nothingcomestonothing · 12/07/2022 19:51

Your son's TA bought him a £100 Lego set?! That's not okay.

Justrealised · 12/07/2022 19:51

@PraiseBee it's like a big earring that stretches the hole in the ear. I'll try to find a pic of one

Highly inappropriate and I wouldn't encourage it

She buys your child birthday and Valentine’s Day gifts and a £100 Lego set?!

Justrealised · 12/07/2022 20:00

It's not like it sounds in regards to the gifts. We're all very close now and it's a different dynamic and one that has worked very well. She will continue to a family friend.

No not really it's not very in

Pleaseletmeconfirm · 12/07/2022 20:06

I've kids in their late 20s and they would not like Tiffany. It's an old peoples brand. I think it's a bit mean to give jewelry unless you can be certain the recipient will like it. It's such a waste and would be so disappointing.
A gift voucher is much more considerate.
Have a look at Regal Rose jewelry and give her a token bit of jewellery and a gift voucher.
