Strange goings on tonight. Can anyone shed light?

I have two cats and two dogs. My dogs sleep in my bed with me and usually the cat is downstairs/outside and comes in to say good morning in the morning.

However, climbed into bed about 30 minutes ago. Followed my usual routine. Topped up cats food and water for overnight, locked up, brushed teeth etc.

Im not long in from the cinema and it's just the one cat that's in the house since I've came home but this isn't unusual.

Got into bed with the dogs and my cat who is never very vocal was meowing so loudly outside my bedroom door. I let him in but he wouldn't come up in the bed and just kept meowing standing at the open bedroom door. So I then go over to him and he starts to walk away still meowing, he basically takes me outside to a bush at the back of my garden. I use my phone torch to look in it/under it but can't see anything. He just stood there meowing at it.

I've now came inside and he has stayed outside in the garden (there's a cat flap so can get in at any time). I went back to bed and now my dogs are acting all strange and not settling at all which is unlike them. They are in a good routine.

I'm a little worried that something has happened to my other cat and my cat is meowing and trying to tell me.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Should I be worried?

Could it be either another cat or something like a hedgehog? My cat gets very vocal and insistent about strange things but normally it’s sheep related or wild rabbits in the garden.

I seem to recall that Skippy the Kangaroo did something similar and led Sonny to someone who had fallen down a well.

Do you have a well in your garden?

Excellent! Gave me a giggle, thanks 😊

Poodles23 · 13/07/2022 18:48

That’s irrelevant to the question

Was it a full moon?

Nicho59 · 13/07/2022 18:59

I must have had at least 10 cats in my lifetime from pedigrees to rescue cats. My experience is that all cats are illogical arse holes. Remember a cat thinks that it owns you. Magnificent creature though!

Our elderly cat gets offended and VERY vocal indeed when Mr Spiky the hedgehog has the temerity to come and drink from her outside waterbowl 🐾 😻

One of my cats was behaving like this last week, I thought he was stringing me along 🙄When I went outside to take a look I found a hedgehog. Mystery solved. 😃

My middle cat is not at all vocal but is very maternal; always trying to wash the other older and younger cats much to their annoyance.
I've twice had her meowing very insistently into my face, very agitated.
We live on a farm.
On both occasions the kitten was stuck; once in the field and unable to negotiate the electric fence to get back into garden and once up in the rafters of the barn. She was in no danger but my middle cat was beside herself with distress and completely happy once I attended!

Glad all resolved. One dog gets very anxious if the other one is not around (I had locked him out as he was monitoring a fox on the other side of the fence so didn't come when called so i assumed he was in). Same with the cats. They do go out independently but if one gets locked in while the other is still out they tend to pace around and just be unsettled.

Your middle cat sounds adorable. Cats have such fascinating personalities.

My cat is quite vocal especially when she want to bath tap switched on to drink running water. At other times it's quite funny to see what she wants and to follow her although often it ends up with her throwing herself down on the ground and wanting a tummy rub.

She quite smart as well and understands words like 'bugs' when she'll let out a meow and come running. She gets very excited when a moth gets into the house.

My friends cat woke her up, jumping on the bed and miaowing at 4am
Then dumped a kitten on her bed Blush and sauntered off
She was WTF, they never found any other kittens or mum so adopted it

Glad you have both cats back with you OP.

After I commented on your post, I did remember that my cats would act weird when we had deer in our garden - they didn't meow like yours did but they would 'fuss' around me, get under my feet and look and act stressed. So some form of wildlife? My cat ignores our hedgehogs and visiting foxes we have had in the past. They avoid badgers though as they do not like them at all. Maybe you have a fox den and the cubs or cub came out but would make themselves scarce if a human was about.

Please update if one of them does it again. Being nosey, but love a good mystery!
