So dd10 came out of school today clutching her school report anxiously, a girl in front of her with her dad ripped her envelope open and then exclaimed 'all A's yay!!'. Aibu to think that school reports should either be posted home or to save postage collected from the teacher at home time and then taken home to read. ? My dd was all upset as she knew she wasn't going to get A's!! She did ok though and I tried to reassure her.

Unless you have a child with SEN or low attaining you will never understand how it feels when you know your child will always struggle however hard they try. I have one with SEN and two high achievers.

unreasonable or not you cannot help feeling the way you do.

more often than not low attaining children suffer with low self esteem too due to constant reminders that they are not as good as everyone else.

sending love to all parents who feel this way especially at report time

What country are you in?

Finland. Reports are very matter of fact here, just grades, not like the UK ones with the teacher writing something personal about each child, I miss that.

Where is this the 1930s?

*A's? 🥴

What do you mean? A levels still have letter grades in 2022. And primary schools (and some secondary schools) use a variety of letters for effort or attainment grades. 'A' often stands for 'above' the expected attainment level. In some schools it means 'At' the expected attainment level. Or some schools give numbers e.g. 1-5 for attainment level and letter grades for effort. Or the other way around.

It's very odd that you think using letters is somehow inherently old-fashioned Confused. As long as the parents have a key saying what means what, it doesn't really matter!

Yes I know all of this. I am a teacher. That is not how it was implied though.

Teachers certainly don't grade A-F like the old days.

Hi an A means working at age related expectations .
A star means working at greater depth .

I don’t know how they do this do they bare in mind what the child does from September to June ? As the school reports are dated in June or July and handed out last week .
Do they bare in mind how well a child has done in the recent months too ? Like this year my child has got A,s and 1 A star .
where as other reports were a few Astra’s and rest A,s .
i don’t think these reports actually can give you any real information on how your child’s doing in school really ! We as parents should always be proud of our children ❤️

Senior schools grade 1-5
I think same as universities.

I was happy with my dc’s grades. Dd got all A’s for effort and “working at expected level”

Ds got all B’s apart from history where he got an A. He too is working at expected level
