No refund on bridal make up after trial

I booked a highly recommended artist for my bridal makeup, and had to secure with a non refundable deposit before I was allowed a trial.

I've since had a trial, and the makeup was shocking. My face was caked on (I get for pictures), but in the heat, it was literally running down my face. It transferred everytime something brushed my face.

I'm left with proceeding with someone who's make up I really dislike because I can't afford to lose the deposit, or I have to borrow the money to change to someone else. WWYD?

You do need to wear a lot of make up

Why? Does the groom's face vanish if he doesn't wear 'a lot of make up'?

In answer to this, not the same for everybody obviously but I wanted my wedding photos to look like I had make up on. When I do my own make up, no matter how long I take over it and how good quality products I use I seem to lose it in photos; my face is obviously visible but the make up isn't. On our wedding pictures my eye make up, lip colour etc is visible.

OP, I don't do Twitter otherwise I'd be begging Wayne Goss the bestest makeup guru in the universe to save you on your special day!

How did you pay? If by card you can contact either the card company (credit card) or your bank (debit card) and do a charge back as you did not get the goods/service as described.

Pugdogmom · 11/07/2022 22:43

If she caked on your make-up, is she even qualified as a MUA, because she is talking nonsense that you need heavy make-up for photos? So many people say they are but actually learn from YouTube videos, buy the stuff that the influencers recommend and off they go as a business. It should not have been falling of your face either.

How much was she charging you for your MU if £80 was the deposit 🤔. Where I live ( city), I have never known a bride pay more than £100 for Bridal make-up ( trial extra) , and average is about £60-80 .

I just checked the prices locally from MUA and they haven't increased.

Your only options are to tell her you didn't like what she did and discuss with her what you do want or book someone else, and fight for your deposit back, but I suspect if she is working out of her house and not a salon, then you won't get very far.

How much was the deposit? Does this amount basically cover her rate for the trial? If so, I’d just leave it and find someone else/do your own.

Technically a deposit is always refundable if it’sa service, rather than goods that you are paying for (which you are). However you have had part of that service (the trial).

Did you send you a contract?

No you don’t need to have thick make up for the photos! I wore v minimal make up, I look ridiculous properly made up so just did my own make up the way I always do. I look like me in the photos and strangely, so does make up free DH 🤷🏻‍♀️

knockyknees · 12/07/2022 23:48

You definitely don't need thicker makeup for your wedding photos!

One of my friends had so-called professional makeup done for her wedding and she looked like a clown. Absolutely awful. She also had her dead straight hair put in ringlets. I honestly didn't recognise her when she arrived at the church and initially thought the wrong bride had entered by mistake.

I've been to many other weddings and it's easy to tell the ones who had their make-up done by "professionals" as it was pasted on so thick and looked bloody awful (confirmed by each of them saying it was "professionally" done).

I'd try my best to get the wedding day deposit back and use the money to try a few different types of make-up yourself if possible.

I think op paid a deposit AND for the trial.

Surely a trial is to show if the mua is up to the job as well as to the brides liking?

are you sure?

beautyisthefaceisee · 13/07/2022 19:39

Odd system, really.

Surely a deposit is for if you dont turn up etc?
