The F###ing scaffolding is back!

Post 3

Briefly Post 1, Had had neighbour (1)’s scaffolding up in my garden for a month and then had argument with her misogynistic builder.

Post 2, Building work completed. Overjoyed that scaffolding finally removed Saturday morning - until I found out this was not by the company which owned it.

Today neighbour(2) said ‘I see your scaffolding has gone. Lucky you. Mine should have gone Saturday morning’

Long story short her scaffolding company thought they had collected and couldn’t understand why she was complaining, until she told them they had gone to the wrong address.

I asked her to make it clear that whatever they did with the scaffolding, I didn’t want it back. She agreed completely. She is fed up with hers, and that was for work on her own house.

I came home to find it in my front garden. It is no longer erected, doesn’t block light or access, but it takes up more space as all of the boards and poles are on the ground.

I understand to a degree why neighbour(2)’s company returned the items to where they found them.

I asked DH to phone the owning company to sort out collection, I desperately wanted someone to treat this seriously and thought he would stand a better chance.

Anyway he didn’t have any luck either. They can’t (won’t) collect until 29/7/22 - which is actually later than the date they have already given neighbour (1).

I will have no lawn left by then, there’s not enough space to use my table and chairs and I can’t easily get to my greenhouse.

We thought that after they presumably thought it had been stolen before they would want to collect urgently now it’s back.

What is my AIBU?

Have just been telling neighbour (3) about the saga. He queried why they hadn’t seen that the stencilled markings on the equipment weren’t theirs. His eyes lit up a bit when I said there were none.

He has always been fine with us, but he ‘knows’ lots of people and some of them are not averse to ‘catching’ things which ‘fall’ from lorries, etc.

He pointedly said it wasn’t a good idea for them to leave it lying in my garden, that dismantling it was noisy and time consuming, but just picking it up wasn’t, and it could easily just go missing when I was out.

I do want it gone. The man DH spoke to was rude and arrogant.

We are actually going out for several hours this evening.

WIBU to let that slip to neighbour (3)?

(I suspect it is unreasonable and that my desire to get rid of this inconvenience is clouding my normally very honest judgement.)

I agree with the others who said to send in writing that they have 24 hours to remove it from your lawn or else you will have it removed due to the safety hazard it poses. I did that once for something that had been left with a distant pick up date and miraculously it got picked up that same day!

Allthecoolusernamesaregone · 11/07/2022 18:52

Well in terms of my initial AIBU the matter has been taken out of my hands.

Our plans for this evening are for a somewhat novelty event, which is quite a recent set up, and has provoked a lot of local interest.

DD (adult) has just come in a told us neighbour (3) says he went last week and hopes we enjoy this evening as much as he did!

Just one more point that DH has just told me, and made my blood boil is that the man at the scaffolding company told him he couldn’t make demands as he wasn’t their customer.

Anyway I am in the middle of getting ready, and the make up takes a bit longer these days, so I will take my leave for a while, and update any ‘progress’ later.

I would ring them
Tomorrow and say you weee out last night, and now you come to look this morning, quite a lot of the pile has disappeared …

Mumsnut · 11/07/2022 18:56

They’ll burn rubber

SherbertLemonDrop · 11/07/2022 18:59

Move to infront your house don't take it any further than you have to, then report for fly tipping. Or just get people to take it.

Genevieva · 11/07/2022 19:10

This is trespass. You didn't give permission for your land to be used as free storage. Tell them you will be charging them a hefty fee per day and, if it isn't gone before the weekend, you will have it expounded and they will have to pay to retrieve it. I am sure a scrap yard would happily collect it.

justasking111 · 11/07/2022 19:12

Facebook's market place free buyer collects

TheCatterall · 11/07/2022 19:14

Think I’d be putting a post in a local area Facebook group about this scaffolding someone’s dumped in your lawn on x street. And how the scaffolders (name/tag them) said they won’t move it for weeks. Keep folks informed of the fabulous service you’ve had.

and hopefully one of them will move it for you.

Pixiedust1234 · 11/07/2022 19:15

You can make demands as its on your property. Call the scaffolders back and give them 48 hours to remove or you will contact the council to say its been flytipped. (And do call the council after 48 hours). Then sit back and watch.

FrippEnos · 11/07/2022 19:16

Talk to NDN 3 and get his mates to remove it.

Then send a tin of sweets to the scaffolding company for their surprisingly prompt removal of the scaffolding.

Georgeskitchen · 11/07/2022 19:16

Could you pay a couple of strong young lads to heave it all into the street and leave it there? Someone is bound to report to the council and order the company to get their arses round and shift it!!

AllotmentTime · 11/07/2022 19:17

Post on your local Facebook groups complaining about the scaffolding company. Photo of all that scaffolding and a note that there don’t appear to be any stencils so you’re “not even sure it’s legit”.

Then a post on your own feed, settings set to public, about how much you’re looking forward to going out this evening.

I mean granted there’s a slight chance your whole house will get robbed, but the scaffolding will be gone for sure 🤣

ChinnyTroubles · 11/07/2022 19:17

Youaremysunshine14 · 11/07/2022 18:36

What, so OP should just leave it in her garden until the 29th while it kills the lawn beneath it?

err...no that is exactly my point - neighbour 3 will have it gone in no time by the sound of it. Much quicker than waiting for the company or the pain of lugging it round to neighbour 2

Thought that was pretty obvious from what @Allthecoolusernamesaregone was saying about him

alwaysmovingforwards · 11/07/2022 19:18

Send the company a text
"Hi, I think it's your scaffold in my garden. Had a group of guys knock on the door this afternoon and ask about it. I told them it's not mine, it shouldn't be there and I want it gone asap. They talked amongst themselves and I heard them say they'd bring the bigger truck to work tomorrow as they left. Just thought I'd let you know as a courtesy really. And I want to be really clear it's not my legal responsibility to safe guard your equipment. You've left it on my properly without my agreement or my consent. Anyway, I'm sure the problem you've created me will be solved within 24hrs. All the best".

crowsfeet57 · 11/07/2022 19:18

I wonder how much scaffolding sells for? It can't be cheap.

DS1 had a scaffolding ladder left in his garden. Put it on fb marketplace and sold it very quickly for £50!

AnxiousPixie · 11/07/2022 19:19

I came on to say same as others.we had similar situation, rang them and said we would report for fly tipping, was gone the next morning.

NDandMe · 11/07/2022 19:21

Yes, I'd arrange for it to disappear.

Poppyblush · 11/07/2022 19:22

Send them an invoice for your lawn rent and repair.

tell them ‘dodgy’ people have been eyeing it up and you caught someone trying to nick it but are not responsible if it gets stolen or taken!

Staffy1 · 11/07/2022 19:23

FrippEnos · 11/07/2022 19:16

Talk to NDN 3 and get his mates to remove it.

Then send a tin of sweets to the scaffolding company for their surprisingly prompt removal of the scaffolding.

Sweets that have been accidentally dropped in your toilet first.

AlisonDonut · 11/07/2022 19:29

I'd have put it on Facebook marketplace as soon as I'd had the call with them, and I'd have told them that as well. They can't just leave their scaffolding in random non-customers gardens.

Goldpaw · 11/07/2022 19:30

Excellent, looks like DD has done her daughterly duty and told Neighbour 3 that the coast is clear for his mates to come round and collect!

Buffyzombie · 11/07/2022 19:32

Buy neaighbour 3 a drink when the problem resolves itself, infact have one with them! Cheers

fyn · 11/07/2022 19:33

I recently had a skip left on some land I manage, the home owners has organised to put it there because it was more convenient that their drive. They wouldn’t move it, it carried on for a few days. I gave them a deadline of 5pm that day or I’d call the flytipping department at the Council to inform them that it had been left without permission on private land. They magically were able to move it within the hour.

GreenClock · 11/07/2022 19:34

I’m loving this thread!

Thinkingblonde · 11/07/2022 19:39

Your neighbour (3) s wrong, it’s just as noisy when it’s put back onto the van or low loader.
