Put your hand up in the air like you're asking a question.

Bend only your little finger.

YANBU - My ring finger goes down with it. Those guys do everything together. It's not my decision. PS this thread is pointless shit and you just wasted 2 minutes of my Sunday.

YABU - pinky is doing his own thing, the others are still standing to attention. PS this thread is pointless shit and you just wasted 2 minutes of my Sunday.

Pinky and ring are ride or die over here.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 10/07/2022 18:47

If you think that's fascinating, look up the Linburg-Comstock variation, a similar type of thing with potentially fatal consequences! (If you happen to be holding the right kind of gun.)

itsgettingweird · 10/07/2022 18:49

I can't vote.

But that was an amusing 2 minutes of my life 🤣🤣

LittlestBaoBun · 10/07/2022 18:03

I can make the right pinky go alone but the ring finger twitches. Left pinky takes left ring finger with it. Voted yanbu because of the left ones.

I have the same with right and left!

GetThatHelmetOn · 10/07/2022 18:43

Oh my, to think I have lived thinking I was a bit strange! I have found my tribe (left hand ok, right hand ring finger comes down)

Me too. Right hand is dominant but can’t do the pinky individually, which seems counterintuitive.

ramonaquimby · 10/07/2022 18:53

You do know this is because tendons and muscles on those fingers are connected. It’s human anatomy not some weird reason

nonevernotever · 10/07/2022 18:55

I can't vote either though it depends a bit on whether it has to go all the way to the palm or not. Both pinkies will fold alone if I concentrate but not as far as my palm. It's definitely easier if other fingers are touching each other so that they know they're not being left alone. (Can fingers get separation anxiety?) Ring fingers can go to the palm alone. Middle fingers have the ring fingers leaning forward to watch, and index fingers are too arthriticy to bend unless whole hand curves into a fist. DH on the other hand can send his pinkies alone anywhere ....

ramonaquimby · 10/07/2022 18:55

Sorry that’s a bit grumpy. I’m a bit grumpy 😬

HerLadySheep · 10/07/2022 18:57

I can make my left one move independently, right one only moving with the ring finger too, I'm right handed🤷🏼‍♀️

Ratched · 10/07/2022 18:57

Nope.
Mine work in unison 😁

I can, however, control my eyebrows independently and only just found out that not everyone can😊

Mamamia7962 · 10/07/2022 19:01

That hand in the photo looks like a man's, so maybe it's more common for men to be able to do this?

Penguinevere · 10/07/2022 19:02

It’s because of the nerve supply to the fingers.

Catsdrool · 10/07/2022 19:05

My DH can do it but my fingers go together like PB and J

WeAllHaveWings · 10/07/2022 19:07

When I hold all my other fingers together I can't curl my pinkie, it bends but stays solidily straight, it needs the ring finger to curl too. Right hand pinkie curls ok when I hold the other fingers.

How can i get to 53 years old and not know this about my body!

700DrinksWoman · 10/07/2022 19:07

Well I enjoyed trying that out and making the kids do the same

Yabu, all our fingers are independent women.

saraclara · 10/07/2022 19:12

Both fingers bend to almost the same degree, whatever I do. Both hands.

I find this quite disturbing in a weird way. Thanks for ruining my Sunday!

EarthwormJane · 10/07/2022 19:14

I don't have a ring finger. Thanks for the reminder.

Shodan · 10/07/2022 19:15

Both ring fingers skippety skip palm-wards independently, each as happily solo as a twice-divorced woman.

My right pinky finger will bend reluctantly on its own, but will not commit to going as far as the palm. After a certain point its support finger is crouching over it, ready to assist.

My left pinky is feeble and flatly refuses to go anywhere without its bodyguard finger. I'm disowning it, as it clearly isn't a Strong Independent Finger and is Letting The Side Down.

VinegarRinse · 10/07/2022 19:24

Well I can’t vote because on one hand the ring finger does also bend, but on the other hand it doesn’t

Ditto

SSDDagain · 10/07/2022 19:25

My right hand can do it.
My left hand can kinda do it... but the top joint joins in not the full finger.
It looks weird

SW1amp · 10/07/2022 19:27

For those who can move their little finger only, have you played the piano, or another instrument which requires you to practice using fingers independently?

I wonder if it’s something that can be learned

VinegarRinse · 10/07/2022 19:33

Me too. Right hand is dominant but can’t do the pinky individually, which seems counterintuitive

I'm the opposite.my right hand, like yours, is dominant and it's easy to do it individually.
Left hand, no chance. How very, very odd.

VinegarRinse · 10/07/2022 19:38

I'm the opposite

So yes, just saying it's counter intuitive.

TyneFilth · 10/07/2022 19:46

Right hand YABU (and I'm right handed).
Left hand ring finger went for a dip so I nearly had to revise my vote, but I controlled it using The Force.

I used to play piano and cello, if you're collecting causative/correlative factors for your hypothesis.

TyneFilth · 10/07/2022 19:48

IncompleteSenten · 10/07/2022 18:10

This is the bending I mean. Not my hand.
Apparently the ring finger is the hardest to move on its on but mine are fine. It's the pinky that seems to need an emotional support finger.

Can't get any fingers that far down (thumbs yes). Can move both ring fingers independently.
