To be very worried and panicked about light pink blood on toilet paper after urinating?

Just that. Only happened once earlier today. I've peed since and it's been normal. I don't have any typical UTI symptoms like burning or pain. I intend to call my GP tomorrow first thing but on the meantime any insight welcome as I'm freaking out over bladder cancer and whatnot. I'm female aged 30.

Could you be pregnant?

Have you eaten beetroot?

savebuckbeak · 10/07/2022 15:44

@LegoLady95 no chance of pregnancy - not had sex in months. Not eaten beetroot.

Have you wiped too hard in that area?, you might have some broken skin.

savebuckbeak · 10/07/2022 15:47

@LadyVictoriaSponge I don't think so! Is that a thing?

ThreeLittleDots · 10/07/2022 15:47

more likely to be vaginal, surely? breakthrough bleeding much more common as we age

savebuckbeak · 10/07/2022 15:49

Pretty sure it was from urethra and not vagina as it was on toilet paper just after I peed.

You may have cut yourself if the loo paper is scratchy, wear a liner, scratched yourself in the night, be a bit dehydrated, have you had a look to see if you have a small cut, pimple or any sore skin.

ManateeFair · 10/07/2022 15:52

Almost certainly nothing to worry about. If it was light pink it could just be vaginal discharge rather than blood in your urine. It could also be a UTI that hasn’t caused any symptoms yet. By all means make an appointment with the GP so they can check it out but you don’t need to be worried and panicked.

Bladder cancer in a 30-year-old woman would be extremely rare - it’s more common in people over 60, and more common in men than women. Smoking is a common cause but even if you’re a smoker you’re highly unlikely to get bladder cancer as a young woman, so try not to freak out!

CurbsideProphet · 10/07/2022 15:55

I had a UTI with pink wee but no other symptoms earlier this year. It didn't show up on the dipstick but my GP sent it to be tested and it was definitely a UTI.

LavenderfortheBees · 10/07/2022 16:07

It's probably just very light spotting. Very common and light enough not to stain your pants. Over the next days, try wiping before you pee as that will confirm it's vaginal.

girlmom21 · 10/07/2022 16:12

You really don't need to be worried if it's just happened once.

Are you due on your period?

savebuckbeak · 10/07/2022 15:49

Pretty sure it was from urethra and not vagina as it was on toilet paper just after I peed.

If that really is the case then drink loads of water in case it is the start of a UTI.

harri2214 · 10/07/2022 16:16

Yeh I def wouldn't freak, esp as it only happened once but if you're sure it was after you peed and coming from the urethra I'd try to be vigilant for signs of another UTI, just in case one is starting. If it doesn't happen again, great, but you could see if you think you're peeing more often or getting any stinging/burning or urgency. Any mild tenderness over the bladder region? Try drinking plenty of water anyway so as to flush anything out, JUST IN CASE it could be the start of a UTI. If it doesn't happen again and u feel fine, forget all about it.

savebuckbeak · 11/07/2022 11:21

Thanks all. It's still not happened again. I called my GP who over the phone said it didn't sound like an infection and that I might need to have an exam/urine test (they're going to call me back later to confirm).

I had a negative cervical smear and negative HPV last January and haven't had sex since then, so I don't think there's anything to worry about there.

Still just feeling very worried and panicky.

I get it when a UTI gets into my kidneys. I think a UTI is probably still most likely explanation even if you don't have any other symptoms typical of a UTI. See the doctors get antibiotics see if that clears it up.

"It’s normal for a UTI to cause bloody urine. It happens because the infection-causing bacteria in your urinary tract cause inflammation and irritation to your cells there. Your urine may look pink, red, or cola-colored.
If you have bleeding from a UTI, or if you have other UTI symptoms, see your doctor."symptoms and advice

savebuckbeak · 12/07/2022 17:48

Finally saw the GP. Urine sample showed no infection. She confirmed bleeding was from the urinary tract because she put a speculum up my vagina and there was no blood there. She’s referring me to urology. She mentioned it could be kidney stones but unlikely as I’m not in pain.

Feeling pretty scared. Anyone got any insight/experience? Anyone had kidney stones with no other symptoms but mild bleeeding?

I'm on a diet group and a few people have been shocked to be diagnosed with kidney stones, so I think no symptoms except blood isn't rare.

Hi,
I had these exact same symptoms. 33 year old denial. I had Blood in urine, no pain or any other real symptoms other than not emptying my bladder fully. I initially went to my private health care and they gave me antibiotics for an infection. At this point I new something serious was wrong but I took the antibiotics as advised. I knew in my gut that it wasn’t an infection as I’d had them before (this felt like I was on the cusp of getting one but no major red flags for an infection) after the antibiotics the blood was still present. So I went straight to the GP and they were incredible. Put me through all the relevant test (ultra sound of bladder, kidney, liver and transvaginal and a ct) turns out I had 2 growths in my bladder, a 2cm and 5mm. I was sent for a cystoscope and that was confirmed. I have just had a TURBT to have them removed and a dose of chemo. Turns out I have/had stage 1 non muscle evasive bladder cancer. The reason I’m writing this here was because I caught this thread right at the start of my symptoms showing and this was a big reason that I went straight to my GP. I would always say to follow your gut. I knew it was serious and I’m only annoyed that I didn’t go to the GP sooner. They caught it really early, so hopefully that will be the end of it. I really hope the original poster is okay. I would always refer back to here for an update but I haven’t seen one.

OneTC · 17/10/2022 09:14

When I had kidney stones I had pink wee just before it all kicked off, in my case it was dilute blood coming from the kidneys

Great result!

I didn't realise the thread was older

HopefulRose · 08/11/2022 10:46

@Sasha13151 Hi glad to read your story and glad to see it was spotted pretty quickly!

I hope you don’t mind but I wondered if I could ask what sort symptoms you had any how many occasions you noticed it before you went to a GP?

I noticed blood in my urine on one occasion in July and a couple of days ago and today there has been light pink blood on the paper after urinating. The GP originally dismissed it as a one off, shall I go back to them?

Sasha13151 · 08/11/2022 12:55

Hey, thank you!

No of course not. So it started in April, I seen blood but only when I wiped. It wasn’t every time I went and I also noticed that my bladder wasn’t fully emptying, I wasn’t going to the toilet more though and I had no stinging or pain. I just felt like I still needed to go after I went. So I contacted a private doctor. They gave me antibiotics. I did the course. But in July the blood came back. I went straight to the GP. Explained the blood came and went and I felt like I was retaining urine. I did urine tests that always came back clear also. She referred me straight to the ultrasound unit and I was given an internal vaginal exam and an ultrasound of my urinary system. This showed the tumour.

My GP was exceptional and she rushed me through everything. I will say that I knew in my heart it wasn’t a water infection, it always felt as though I was on the cusp of getting one but it never materialised (if you get my drift). Blood is never supposed to be in your urine, if you aren’t on your period, or coming off etc. I would get it checked again. It’s more than likely nothing to worry about but my GP said that blood is normally the very first sign of bladder cancer and because I was a smoker that it could be bladder cancer.

There is no harm in getting your urine checked. If you are seeing blood and you aren’t having any other symptoms, if you get it checked and there is no infection, they will probably send you straight for the ultra sounds and vaginal exams to see where the blood is coming from.

I hope that helps! Remember the doctors are there to help you but make sure you advocate for yourself if you are worried!

HopefulRose · 08/11/2022 14:41

@Sasha13151 thanks so much for a thorough reply and answering the questions. What a relief that your GP was so on it. I’ve got a doctors appointment tomorrow with a different GP to last time. Hoping they will refer me to get it checked.

Sasha13151 · 08/11/2022 15:02

ah brill! I really hope they put your mind at rest! If you have any questions and I can help, please ask x

I have the same symptoms as @Sasha13151 described, I have had some blood on the toilet paper a couple of months ago, and the feeling that I'm about to get a UTI but not quite yet. I went to the doctor, they tested my urine, did a pap smear and an vaginal ultrasound and all seemed good. The urine test first showed some blood, then a second test came back clear. This morning I again had some blood on the toilet paper, with very minor symptoms otherwise - I feel like I'm about to get a UTI, but it doesn't happen, it doesn't get worse or better. I have another doctor's appointment tomorrow, let's see what they say...
