To think if you want lots of flowers, you should be prepared to water them?

I love flowers in the garden, but realize they’re a lot of work, which I have neither the time or patience for. I don’t like watering and I’m not rowoaeed to give up 40mins every evening to do it.

There are some beautiful fake hanging baskets that look lovely without the need to ever water them!

Aibu to think that if you have lots of flowers in your garden, you should be the one to water them and not expect anyone else to do it?

Could you get a hose? Last time we got an outside tap installed it cost £70 then you'd just need a cheap hose.

bellac11 · 08/07/2022 22:32

Are you trying to get at someone OP, whats the point of your question

We have a postage stamped garden, but over 100 pots, we're going to gravel over the minor grass patch we have left next year, its mostly weeds now anywway. Then I'll have more pots. We dont water all the time, its survial of the fittest in our garden.

GlitteryGreen · 08/07/2022 22:35

Who is expecting you to water their flowers for them?

WinterMusings · 08/07/2022 22:37

Floraanddougal · 08/07/2022 21:37

I think I voted the wrong way, I’m not sure where you’re going with this but fake flowers in the garden are so utterly cringe and yes you need to water real ones.

S@Floraanddougal

just to let you know, if you ever want to change your vote all you need to do is choose the other option - you can flip as many times as you like!

Just come in from watering my pots and hanging baskets, watering can be time consuming if you have a lot of pots and are growing veg like tomatoes or cutting garden annual flowers sweetpeas.
Borders don't need as much watering but in South East if its hot and dry and/or plants aren't established I do water.
Personally I really dislike fake plants/ hanging baskets / grass but it's personal taste.
I do ask DH to help with watering occasionally but accept the containers are my hobby so I generally do it.

Sinthie · 08/07/2022 22:47

Isn’t it about the bees too though - for this reason (and their ugliness imo) I can’t see the point of fake flowers. And I’ve never spent 40mins watering.

Irrigation system all the way.

Just brilliant, a robot to water those hanging baskets.

gavisconismyfriend · 08/07/2022 23:05

Is this a reverse? Do you have a partner who likes flowers but wants you to do the watering? Are you trying to persuade them that fake flowers are the way to go?

Choopi · 08/07/2022 23:09

I just live in the West of Ireland, beautiful flower garden and no watering required our shit weather takes care of that for me.

VestaTilley · 08/07/2022 23:11

Buy a big watering can.

Fake flowers look naff.

Hamster1111 · 08/07/2022 21:28

Jesus how big is your garden it would take 40 mins to water?!

I do t consider my garden that big but it takes that at least.

limitededitionbarbie · 08/07/2022 23:16

It takes me forty minutes. No one else is bothered about the flowers. I have grown loads from seed i am so proud of them!

That's my time equivalent where you make the running of a bath take ages

user1473878824 · 08/07/2022 23:18

Get a hose? You can just attach it to the tap inside?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/07/2022 23:19

But who is trying to force you (or someone else) to water plants that you don’t want?

Easilystartled · 08/07/2022 23:27

Just fill your garden with drought resistant flowers and shrubs. There a loads. Fake flowers are hideous.

bridgetreilly · 08/07/2022 23:34

At the very least, get a decent sized watering can, not a jug!

Luxa · 08/07/2022 23:37

No, there really aren't, and they don't. They look cheap and nasty, and yes, you can tell even from a distance.

housepilot · 08/07/2022 23:49

@mizzo it could be that your dramatic ground plants have shallow roots due to regular watering/maintenance. And that I intentionally you've created fussy, needy plants. More water, less often for ground plants. So they grown deeper, searching roots Smile

IGotItInTheSales · 09/07/2022 01:04

Fake flowers are not weatherproof....they fade, split and in the case of a local garden, melt!!!

Bloody hideous!

Pinklimey · 09/07/2022 02:21

@carefullycourageous fake flowers can be lovely. You haven't killed a flower to get them and its a beautiful gift that lasts for years.

onlythreenow · 09/07/2022 03:47

As others have already said, get a hose - or at the very least a watering can.

Not in a garden, no. They don't look lovely, they look fake.

Musti · 09/07/2022 04:54

There is a Garden near me that has fake hanging baskets and fake flowers and it is an eyesore. Artificial grass looks bloody awful too.

I mostly have only fruit and herbs in my garden and the rest (bamboo) , ficus, fern etc doesn’t need any watering. My grass is very dry now but I know it will revive and the clover with all the flowers means there are a lot of happy bees in my garden.

chilledbubble · 09/07/2022 05:37

Is someone forcing you to water flowers?

chilledbubble · 09/07/2022 05:37

Hate fake hanging baskets
