How often do you use your bedroom?

I used to use mine for only sleeping but since I changed my room around and got some nicer furniture in here and a little rug, I've been coming up and sitting in here to chill out almost every day.

My parents used to sit in their bedroom for cups of tea and reading or Internet (as it evolved) and I am just realising that even as adults sometimes when we visit our parents we will just go chill on their bed like its a Saturday morning when we were children. which is pretty wierd but they had nice furniture and made their bed to sit on. Lovely mattress who h is more comfy than the sofa.

DH has put his exercise bits and bobs up here too and he frequently works out, whereas before it was nice in here he didn't as much.

No kids allowed unless invited too which makes it 'our space'

So how do you use your room?

(I thought about this because of the other bedroom thread where people were suggesting op give up her bedroom for her children. which is bonkers to me! parents get the biggest room)

I sleep in mine and that's about it apart from getting dressed/changed and walking through it to use the loo in the ensuite during the day (although now you've got me wondering why i never use the one in the main bathroom!)

prettyteapotsplease · 07/07/2022 15:39

I mostly use my bedroom at night to sleep but sometimes sit in it to read quietly during the day.

Lacedwithgrace · 07/07/2022 15:39

I sleep in there and sometimes sit in there or lie down for a bit in the day. It's very calm and light so nice to relax in. I spend more awake time in my dressing room though as there's a sofa in there and a wall of windows.

BrownHairedQuirk · 07/07/2022 15:42

I spend more time chilling on my bed than my living room! I just find it more comfy. My mum said to me the other day that it’s very “teenage” but I don’t really see the difference between sitting up there or on the sofa. The bed is made, it’s not like I’m in bed all day..

Yodaisawally · 07/07/2022 15:45

I love my bedroom! I go upstairs most nights around 2030/2100 to watch TV / Read / relax. Danger zone is that its so comfy I fall asleep too early and am wide awake at 4am

nickthefox · 07/07/2022 15:46

I think its quite light up here, my living room is very dark in comparison and that's probably why I like it up here too. I do like the kitchen to sit in too. I don't really like the iving room.

Our bedroom tends to be where DH retreats to if he wants some peace & quiet in the day.. I've set myself up a nook in the study with a comfy chair, lamp, my book & sewing so that's where I tend to disappear to.

Dogmum40 · 07/07/2022 15:50

We have a comfy squashy sofa in our bedroom and also a balcony which backs on to a beautiful view so we spend a lot of time In our room/on the balcony either together or alone! It’s the best part of our house

Nospringchickendipper · 07/07/2022 15:52

I spend a lot of time in my bedroom. It is a large bright room and it has a comfy sofa in it.

Thearex · 07/07/2022 15:54

Our actual bedroom we use only as a bedroom, however, we use our bigger spare room a little like a lounging room. DP has all his HiFi stuff set up in there as well as his desk & computer.

We have a king sized bed with loads of big cushions & fluffy throws. In the winter the big window catches the low sun, and it is lovely to lounge on the bed listening to music & reading.

Our actual bedroom is at the back of the house and is much quieter at night as we are on a busy main road.

Dotjones · 07/07/2022 15:57

I just use the bedroom for traditional activities that use a bed, like sleeping. I don't even have a television in there. I finally felt like an adult when I could have a bedroom that was just a bedroom. Before that - in my childhood bedroom, in halls of residence at university, in flat shares, in a studio flat - my bedroom was also a place to watch TV, study, eat and play. Having got a bedroom that was just a bedroom, I've wanted to keep it that way.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/07/2022 15:58

In this weather I prefer to chill in our bedroom as it's far cooler than the lounge. It's not very big though, as we lost a third of it when we extended to create another bedroom, would be fab to have a sofa in there.

Rosebuud · 07/07/2022 16:02

Sleeping getting dressed, drying hair etc, nothing else. I’d only lay in my bed or sit uo there if I was unwell. It seems people tend to do it when they prefer the bedroom to the living room, so I’d say maybe the living room needs improving?

Bagpuss2022 · 07/07/2022 16:04

Just to sleep in. It that I get much sleep as i suffer chronic insomnia also it’s the smallest room literally fits a bed a set of drawers and that’s it, Made sense as the DC use there room to socialise etc and need the space I do have a nice comfy sofa in the kitchen and it’s so bright and peaceful that’s my retreat

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/07/2022 16:07

I sometimes escape there when DH and DDs are all home. More in winter, as in the summer there's the conservatory or garden.

Fink · 07/07/2022 16:07

Rarely in the daytime, unless sick. Occasionally if we have a lot of extended family around I'll go up there to hide out for a bit when I get drained from socialising too much. Otherwise it's pretty much for sleeping, getting dressed, other functional things. I do like to relax in bed for a bit before settling down to sleep - podcasts, reading, or similar, but only once I'm in bed for the night. If I had a day off and no kids to get up for, I'd probably do similar in the morning, but again, I'd see it as part of my 'bed' time with a lie in, I wouldn't go back to it later in the day once I'd already got up.

notangelinajolie · 07/07/2022 16:08

My bedroom is in the eaves and we have a lovely view. I have a sofa up there and often go up in the day. It my perfect no noise hide away.

DiamanteDelia · 07/07/2022 16:08

Only for sleeping, dressing etc. I sometimes go in and find DH in there, sitting on a chair reading a book, and it does my head in, like he was sitting reading in the cellar or the laundry or something.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 07/07/2022 16:09

My bedroom is newly decorated, new bed, curtains, everything. I’m having a big comfortable rocking chair, a decent reading light and a cosy corner to retreat to where I can knit, crochet, read or watch television in peace. I deserve it!

Duttercup · 07/07/2022 16:11

My DD loves books on our bed so that happens most days. She likes a slow wake up from her nap on there too. And pretending to sleep. Basically, she loves being allowed on Mummy's bed.

Our bedroom is the only room on that floor though (ramshackle old house, rather than mansion) so I'm planning to have a seating area in there. Then when she's older and has friends over, I can retreat from the horror of shrieking girls.

I agree with this, it feels teenage to me too, as it’s quite typical of teenagers to spend their time in their room, and it’s also the same for students or those in house shares.

generally when you have the whole house as your space then the bedroom becomes the bedroom only.

Oblomov22 · 07/07/2022 16:14

I jump back into bed at every the opportunity, so more often than most.

Bouledeneige · 07/07/2022 16:14

I often use my bedroom during the day if early evening. Either sitting in the armchair by the window or more often, sitting in bed reading or watching stuff on my laptop. It is a lovely room and a real haven.

LivingLifeOnTheVeg · 07/07/2022 16:25

We use ours quite a lot. We have a balcony so in good weather at weekends, we have a takeaway and a few drinks sitting out there. Even if the weather is not so good, we have a comfy corner sofa in our room that I prefer to watch tv on, if the kids are out or doing their own thing. It’s definitely my favourite room in the house.

Ragwort · 07/07/2022 16:38

I like spending time in my bedroom, it's comfortable & I read or watch tv there (occasionally), it is MY sanctuary- DH has his own bedroom Grin.
