to ask, if you're under 35, how much do you have in savings?

Bit of a CF question, but I am just wondering how good/bad to feel about my current savings. Considering a move back to the UK but very unsure of what level I'm on in comparison to people my age in the UK (I'm 33).

If you don't mind letting me know it would be really helpful! If not, thanks anyway.

DH and I are just about to hop over your age limit, and have nothing in savings atm. Just bought a car (second hand and vitally needed) and had DC2 though. We're homeowners with a mortgage. When not on maternity leave I earn a part time band 2 pittance with the NHS, while DH earns 6-7 times what I do. We're focusing on saving now .

I’m 36 and my savings account has £300 in it. Oh well. Not all of us can have a rainy day fund.

Sanfranciscobabe · 04/07/2022 15:41

I’m 35. Just spent almost £100k of savings on house renovation. Now have c£80k but vast majority in shares so I daren’t check the value at the moment.

doesn’t include pension

Penrythejanitor · 04/07/2022 15:56

When me and partner were under 35, we had nothing in savings.

Hope that helps.

SaltandPepper22 · 04/07/2022 16:19

29 here and have £6.5k.

Would like to have more but we bought a house last year, decorated and furnished it, replaced all the floors, new internal doors, new downstairs loo and the biggest expense £4.3k on fencing so at least I know where the money has gone.

Current lot of savings will be going straight on a new bathroom when we have enough

Don't put on here what you have in savings. Friend of mine did this on another social media page and from using their user name there were hacked and robbed. Hackers are clever, to many people putting personal things online they think are harmless. This is a parenting forum not a financial advice page. Dodgy. Reporting.

Mooey89 · 04/07/2022 16:32

Erm.
about 1k. But that’s a sinking fund, I have 25k in debt.
I own my own house.
I earn 32k per year ish.

I'm amazed at what people share online.

Hi, I'm 37 and my husband is 34 and we have just over £5k in savings. Since we've moved in together we've saved for a wedding and to do our house...but hoping this little pot will now be for emergencies/something to fall back on. We'll be increasing our mortgage shortly as moving to a bigger property so won't be able to save as much going forward, aiming for around £600 per month into the main pot and then I put the odd £50-£100 in other pots for Christmas/holidays etc. Hope that helps :-)

I’m a bit older, but I would say I have the same in savings as you do.

Same 🤣

Hi op, me and dh are now 45 and we have 20k. We have no debt at all aside from mortgage. We have 2/3 equity in our house. When we were 35 all our money went on deposit, fees and house renovations. We rarely had anything other than a few grand in savings. I feel that we overhoused ourselves by buying a big wreck. I feel asset rich but cash poor. I sometimes wish we had bought a cheaper property but on the other hand we have been good at earning and getting rid of debts.

So from someone posting on an anonymous forum hackers can work out a) who you are b) what bank the money is at and c) your login details? I somehow doubt that - even if your username was your name and dob they still wouldn’t know where to find the money.

You feel cash poor but you have £20k in cash? Right.

About 25k savings and 70k in the house - 28

hatchyu · 04/07/2022 18:54

I never considered equity as savings tbh

I'm 26 and my husband is 31, we have 2.8k in our savings account, but it'll be down to £300 by the end of the week as we're having a new bathroom fitted. We have a total of 3k 'buffer zone' in our current accounts, give or take. That's earmarked for emergencies.

Given that I'm due to give birth in a few weeks this isn't ideal but we've spent the majority of our 8 year relationship with no savings at all until last year when we finally started earning enough to save, so I'll take it and not moan.
