To ask if you think crystals have any power?

You know like healing or strength or helping you with whatever power the Crystal has?

Is this just a make believe thing like astrology or do you think there is power in crystals?

Depends what you mean by powers but quartz powers watches, so in that sense, yes.

No, quartz watches are powered by batteries. The quartz crystal is used as an oscillator which vibrates at a precise frequency and the resultant signal is used to regulate the watch.

Crystals do not have ‘power’. They are just inanimate lumps of rock. The placebo effect is very real, though, so if people believe that crystals or homeopathic ‘treatments’ or whatever have specific properties then they may perceive some beneficial effect from them.

I didn't say they had healing powers.

They are awe inspiring.

I have 2 x 6ft amethyst in my living room.

I also have a crystal with water and a bubble trapped inside it which has been in place for millennia. I look at that water bubble and wonder what the world was like when it was formed.

They are very very old and were created from movement and pressure, a long way into the earth, and pretty much by accident.

Yes I know pebbles and sand and lots of other things are very old too, if you like looking at them instead that's fine.

Ah, I thought you were saying “Yes, they have healing powers. They are awe inspiring” cos you started with saying “yes”, which I took to be in response to the OP question “Do you think crystals have any healing power?” Your comment makes more sense now! Though I do also like looking at pebbles and patio slabs too… all rocks are good :-)

My mother believes in the healing power of crystals and thinks I'm closed minded. She still hasn't explained to me why she's always at the doctor's if crystals are so good!

Yorkshirelass04 · 05/07/2022 08:41

@Talipesmum

Actually. I think I do find awe inspiring things healing. At least mentally and spiritually.

KatherineofGaunt · 05/07/2022 08:49

Not really, but I got a great deal of comfort from a moonstone bracelet when I'd be struggling to conceive for a couple of years. I'm sure it did nothing to help but I did like to wear it. I also have a rose quartz bracelet now to "help" me with my depression. It just feels nice on my wrist.

So...I don't think they power in the way I think you meant, OP, but as a comfort and with the placebo effect, I think they do have a kind of power. If that makes sense.

No and the cost in environmental terms and human suffering is immense. Worker conditions are appalling and often involve child labour.

If you can buy a pretty stone for £1 that has been mined, tumbled, sent half way round the world and provided a profit to the wholesaler and retailer, how much do you think the miner working in dangerous conditions received?

I came on to say this. All the they look so pretty crap. Even proper dealers can't tell if one is real quartz apparently and where there is mining there are human rights issues. Quite literally blood sweat and tears. No thank you to that so I can feel grounded or whatever.

Placebo and anchoring both amazing tho. I agree.

JiminyGlick · 05/07/2022 08:54

No. How could a rock possible have any power? It’s nonsense.

And mining of crystals has been linked to human rights violations and environmental damage. The more people that buy into this fad, the more damage is done.

I read an article once that said, ironically, crystals lovers are the types that wouldn’t dream of eating an egg from a battery hen yet never question where (or how) their crystals come from.

B0ssAssB1tch · 05/07/2022 08:56

I don't think they have any power themselves, but i do think that if you use them for something like an aid to meditation, then meditation is very useful for all sorts of mental health and stress related issues. But i think the power comes from the human, not the stone.

Lodestone is a naturally occurring magnetic rock. However, still not a crystals fan.

Nope. I worked as a mineralogist at a museum for three years so handled then hundreds of times a day. I got sick, stressed and aches and pains just like every one else.....
