To ask if anyone else didn’t like Book of Mormon?

I went to see it yesterday and was really expecting to love it. I know many people who’ve seen it and it always gets rave reviews. The person I went with absolutely loved it.

I thought it was fine, had a couple of laughs, but I didn’t think it was a brilliant, hilarious masterpiece. It’s in our city this week and my social media is covered in people saying how it’s the best show they’ve ever seen, cried laughing etc.

Has anyone else been disappointed by it? It didn’t offend me or anything, I just didn’t think it was as brilliant and funny as it seems every other person I know does.

I found Les Mis utterly boring.

I think it sounds a bit dull. I hate musicals anyway and just don’t fancy this one at all, satirical or not. Everybody tries to convince me otherwise but I know I’d be the one falling asleep if I went to it. (Yes, I am judging before experiencing - sorry). If I want irreverent humour I’ll see a comedian (and one who doesn’t sing). So, you are not alone.

I was quite up for a satirical take on the Mormons.

Looking back, I've no idea what I was expecting. I obviously hadn't thought it through as I knew they were missionaries so god knows why I hadn't thought about their missions 🙈🙈🙈🙈

I fell asleep twice in the first half; both my wife and I left before the second half. Not funny. The ironic thing is I loved Southpark.

It's very dated and great if you liked south park. I did so really liked it. There are some great songs but I'm not a musical lover

I walked into The Book of Mormon with high expectations, having grown up on South Park's signature humor. However, my experience was mixed. While I appreciated the catchy songs and captivating storyline, which cleverly used satire to contrast the Ugandans and Mormons, I didn't find myself laughing out loud as much as I anticipated, if at all. In fact, I sensed that those around me were laughing uncomfortably, perhaps feeling obligated to do so.

Elder Cunningham's character, whose lying served as a commentary on Joseph Smith's own deceptions, was a highlight for me – hence the A grade. On the other hand, some of the humor felt forced and relied on crude, off-putting jokes. The maggots-in-the-scrotum "joke" fell flat for me. Ultimately, I left feeling underwhelmed and wondering if I should have just stayed home and watched the South Park movie instead – hence the F grade.

Overall, my experience with The Book of Mormon was a mixed bag. While it had its moments, it didn't quite live up to my expectations.
