Claire's Accessories

I looked on Claire's website and noted some items I wanted to buy. I chose my local store and it said they were available there. The prices were shown as the items were discounted.

I went to the store and was charged £14 more than the website prices. On contacting Claire's they said that their website offers are different to the stores and they quoted buy one get one free which I was not taking advantage of but this was a vast difference in price. I am absolutely disgusted. They have misled me and probably thousands of people and this is a sure fire was of ensuring stores are going to be closed in the future.

They are basically ripping people off especially little girls who I imagine love going to the shops to buy things with pocket and birthday money.

Boots do this also.
Cheaper prices/Offers online than in store

Notimeforaname · 02/07/2022 13:06

Lots of shops have a different price online vs in store. I thought that was usual? Usually it says "online offers" or "online exclusives".
It's like food orders too, different deals online/in store.

waveyourpompoms · 02/07/2022 13:06

YABU. They have not misled you. You are welcome to buy online and take advantage of their prices or go in store and pay more.

Your choice entirely.

Wellthatsjustswell · 02/07/2022 13:09

Presumably the prices were clear on the stands you took the items off?
It was probably in small print on the website about prices being valid for online orders only.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 02/07/2022 13:13

It's not misleading. You could have bought online at x-price but chose not to. Equally you didn't have to buy in store once you realised it was more expensive.

It's often a bit pricier to buy in-store as you're covering the cost of staff, rent and utilities, whereas online orders come from huge warehouses which are generally cheaper to run.

TroysMammy · 02/07/2022 13:16

When I searched for items on their website the items came up with the original price crossed out and the new price showing. It did not say online price and store price. If it had I wouldn't have bothered going to the shop.

Have you seen the size of the print on the stickers? Even with glasses I can't see them.

Have a look at the website chose a local store and type in e.g. Unicorn in the search. It gives prices and available in xx store. How is that not misleading?

Is it this as couldn’t be anymore clearer “online exclusive” it clearly states ONLINE

In store they have to be more expensive to cover all the losses from shoplifting.

Cas112 · 02/07/2022 13:29

You could have just ordered online

A lot of company's have cheaper online think it's due to the delivery costs they add on

LAtalante · 02/07/2022 13:32

I went to the store and was charged £14 more than the website prices

Why didn't you just walk away? It was completely your choice to buy.

Hallyup89 · 02/07/2022 13:35

Claire's have always sold overpriced tat. If, however, the pricing is clear then they're within their rights to charge what they want.

waveyourpompoms · 02/07/2022 13:36

I’ve seen the website. It’s very clear the offers are online only.

TroysMammy · 02/07/2022 13:37

It might say online exclusive but I just put what I was looking for in the search engine. When the items came up it didn't indicate online exclusive just reduced prices. I'm not going to click on online exclusive and trawl through the thousands of items when I only need to search for a specific item.

It's right there on the homepage that the 40% discount is online only.

It's not Claire's fault that you didn't read the website properly, though.

It's right there on the homepage in a huge banner that it's an online offer only. I'm not really sure how they can make it clearer than that.

TroysMammy · 02/07/2022 13:42

@LAtalante because not all of us have a BSc in mathematics. I just looked on the website to see if they were available in my local store. It was only afterwards that one item wasn't available and I looked to see if there was click and collect that I realised the price difference.

Loics · 02/07/2022 13:47

I'm rubbish at maths, but surely £14 is quite noticeable? If not, and you bought the items, you must have thought it a fist price at the time?
Either buy online, or pay extra in store to cover running costs, I suppose. Staff, electricity, heating and cleaning and so on need to be covered somehow.

A fist price?! I meant FAIR price.

TroysMammy · 02/07/2022 13:48

@coffeecupsandfairylights because when you actually see the items it says available in your local store. It doesn't say in your local store for the original price.

So the consensus is I'm a stupid cow who should know the ins and outs of online shopping and not go to your local store and I'm unreasonable for wanting to buy tat.

Fair enough. Tbf it was only when I got my higher maths degree that I could successfully purchase a pair of watermelon stud earrings at a decent price.

I'm currently studying advanced physics in order to buy a unicorn headband 🙏

coffeecupsandfairylights · 02/07/2022 13:53

No, because it says on the homepage that the discounted price is an online exclusive.

Well, the only person who's used the word stupid is you. People are just pointing out that the website is pretty clear and that Claire's haven't misled or you or done anything wrong.

Nobody has said these things except you.

shedwithivy · 02/07/2022 13:58

You are not stupid (or a cow).

Things like this happen to me quite a lot (like missing out on a £50 gift voucher when changing insurance company because I didn't read the small print that put a strict time limit on claiming it). I was cross they wouldn't honour it but it was ultimately my own fault.

I think you just have to put it down to experience, and whether shopping in person or online, keep an eye on the prices as they go in your basket, make sure any extra discounts/vouchers have been applied, that you've checked the right box for free delivery etc and check your receipt before you leave the shop when you shop in person.

Can you take them back? Is click and collect an option that would give you the online price?

Lund · 02/07/2022 13:59

When this happened to me, I showed them the items online and they gave me the discounted price. Not sure if that’s how it always works but it’s worth asking!

DelosParks · 02/07/2022 13:59

There is a moving banner across the top of their page saying

"Up to 40% off basically online. Buy online and collect in store in two hours" no
