Claire's Accessories

I looked on Claire's website and noted some items I wanted to buy. I chose my local store and it said they were available there. The prices were shown as the items were discounted.

I went to the store and was charged £14 more than the website prices. On contacting Claire's they said that their website offers are different to the stores and they quoted buy one get one free which I was not taking advantage of but this was a vast difference in price. I am absolutely disgusted. They have misled me and probably thousands of people and this is a sure fire was of ensuring stores are going to be closed in the future.

They are basically ripping people off especially little girls who I imagine love going to the shops to buy things with pocket and birthday money.

If it cost too much in the store you can always say ah sorry that's too expensive. Right up until you hand over payment.

MassDebate · 02/07/2022 14:18

I won’t let my daughter buy in store for this exact reason - they always have offers online that make things notably cheaper. I think it’s one of those things you only notice once you’re aware of it iyswim - I was also surprised the first time I went to a store rather than buying online.

Stupidpeoplesuck · 02/07/2022 14:22

why didn’t you just click and collect? It states it’s free on their website. Go back 2 hours later and get the same things at the reduced price…..

@coffeecupsandfairylights because when you actually see the items it says available in your local store. It doesn't say in your local store for the original price.

So the consensus is I'm a stupid cow who should know the ins and outs of online shopping and not go to your local store and I'm unreasonable for wanting to buy tat.

I don’t know why you’re getting so het up about this to be honest.

  • It was clearly stated on the website. You don’t need to be an expert in online shopping to read a huge banner
  • No one has called you a “stupid cow”, although your attitude is a bit grim
  • Claire’s sells a lot of tat. However, that isn’t to say what you purchased was tat. Either way, it’s Claire’s and no one made you pay the extra £14
If stores don’t want to have as good offers in store as online then that’s on them. As the consumer, if saving money is a priority to you, it’s always made more sense to shop online. Delivery is often free and there are always discount codes etc floating around.
girlmom21 · 02/07/2022 14:28

All Claire's items have a price sticker. When you get to the checkout they tell you the total. I don't understand.

Titsflyingsouth · 02/07/2022 14:32

I have had Amazon open on my phone and laptop before and seen two completely different prices for exactly the same item... it's disgusting.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 02/07/2022 14:33

@TroysMammy

That is quite a difference!!! YANBU. Were they not clear at ALL that the '£14 less' price was only online?

The posters saying YABU are pretty much not wrong, but you are getting a hard time here. I do see where you are coming from. Similar things have happened to me. I got a quote from a certain insurance company once for our car insurance (about 14 years ago) and it was £300 a year.

Me and DH went into their actual shop in town 12 miles away to sign up (as we were a bit funny about giving bank details online then, don't judge me!!!) and it was £500! DH said 'it's almost double what you quoted online!!!' We left it and went with someone else. But this was 14 years ago and we weren't as internet savvy or confident then (when it came to 'shopping' IYSWIM.)

I've started screenshotting items if I'm only considering buying them instead of adding to my basket/saved items. I added something to my basket yesterday - £15, multiple reviews from a few days to months ago saying how good it was for £15, can't believe this only cost £15, etc. Decided to buy it today, and it's £23.50! Still a decent price but I'm not buying it on principle. I bet it's still showing as only £15 for other people too. 😂

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/07/2022 14:37

The cashier would have told you the price when she rung it up? So you weren’t ripped off.

Lots of online deals are cheaper, because shops come with huge added costs.

Eeksteek · 02/07/2022 15:12

A physical shop costs money to keep open, so things are more expensive in them. They’ll go bust if they don’t account for those costs in their pricing even if it’s the same stuff. I can’t see why things should cost the same, or why you’re so outraged that they don’t. Things are cheaper online. You go to a physical shop, you pay the prices in the shop.

Butchyrestingface · 02/07/2022 15:21

No-one has said that but tbf, I think it's a fair assessment of yourself. Not because you made a simple mistake missing the pricing information online, but because of your attitude on this thread and the comments about a BSc in Mathematics.

You'll know for next time though.

Needmorelego · 02/07/2022 15:29

Claire's is very annoying with their 10 thousand different offers.
I have bought stuff online via click and collect often at a 'reduced' price. But when you go to pick it up they literally take it off the shelf in front of you - which if I had done that instead of paying in advance I would have had to pay the higher price.
I almost didn't pay in advance because I was having phone signal problems. It is silly that they have two different prices.
Even more annoying was they couldn't find 2 of the 3 items I had already paid for so they had to refund them.
What a faff.
If Claire's just lowered their prices to some basic low price points (ie £1, £2, £5) they wouldn't have to do lower online prices or (the ridiculous) buy 3 get 3 free !!

because not all of us have a BSc in mathematics

Fair enough. Tbf it was only when I got my higher maths degree that I could successfully purchase a pair of watermelon stud earrings at a decent price.

I'm currently studying advanced physics in order to buy a unicorn headband 🙏

What can you buy after you get a PhD?

Bournetilly · 02/07/2022 16:07

I thought you meant you did click and collect and when you turned up they charged you more.

YABU they are online offers, you could of ordered them online and when you saw the prices in store you could have thought oh I’ll buy online instead.
