Trapped gas-can’t do this anymore

Dd is almost 4, she’s had stomach pains since January. We’ve been to the doctors and hospital numerous times, she’s had various blood and urine tests-all negative.
Two eco scans have showed gas and one x ray has shown she’s impacted with poo and air.
We've been disimpacting with 8 sachets a day of Movicol for almost 9 weeks and started pico drops last week. Nothing has changed. Her behaviour has completely changed, she’s currently running around, shouting, tormenting the dog, she jumps around, throws things, sometimes hits me.
She has tummy ache from when she wakes, and on and off all day.
I feel like I’ve lost my little girl, so frustrating and upset to see her in pain everyday and not be able to help her, feeling so exhausted dealing with her behaviour, we can barely attend friends parties or play dates anymore, it’s impacted our life.
She’s due to start school in September, but I don’t see how she can, she’ll disrupt the class and teachers with her behaviour, when it’s not her fault, others would see her a just a *Naughty girl, but she really isn’t.
We’ve tried stomach massages, hot water bottles, gas drops, paracetamol medicine…nothing works.
I feel like the doctor has just sort of come to the end with it and really can’t offer me any more advice now…feeling quite desperate.
Has anyone been through similar, at my wits end

@endofagain She’s almost 4 and very independent and smart, she’ll hate having a suppository.
I hate all this so much, it’s hell isn’t it, so awful

@endofagain I can’t do this for two years

I am afraid you will probably have to. If you do it properly and persist it will get better. There is no quick fix. My dc is 24 now and absolutely fine. It was absolutely worth 2 years of effort,
Please, watch the poo nurses video.

Make sure the specialist consultants can 100% absolutely and categorically prove that she does not have a twisted colon / bowel that may not have shown clearly on an x ray / scan etc

endofagain · 30/06/2022 23:47

From what I remember I was given lactulose and docusate as well initially to break up the impaction. Old fashioned I suppose, but worked.

Sqeebling · 30/06/2022 23:47

Colonic volvolus

Absolutely agree with this.

endofagain · 30/06/2022 23:49

The stool chart is very important.

Itneverends77 · 30/06/2022 23:51

@Sqeebling Is that the exam they’d have to do? I’m so worried about putting her through more and possibly invasive treatments at such a young age if she doesn’t need it. I feel like I’m just being left to get on with it

@endofagain Do you think seeing an osteopath would help in any way?

OP posts:
Itneverends77 · 30/06/2022 23:53

@Sqeebling She doesn’t vomit or have blood in the stool etc?

OP posts:
Itneverends77 · 30/06/2022 23:54

Don’t know if this is relevant at all, Dr hasn’t said it is, but who knows now 🤷🏻‍♀️
She has a slightly sticky out belly button, the doctor said it’s hernia something but doesn’t cause any problems and means nothing

OP posts:
CharlotteRose90 · 30/06/2022 23:57

You keep saying you don’t want to put her through invasive treatments. You will probably need too to get an answer. Not to be rude but your daughter is uncomfortable, in pain and has a medical condition that could risk her life. She needs treatment and soon. She’s acting up as a way of coping. Yes it’s not nice to have examinations, bloods, operations but she will soon forget it and will be glad to be healthy again. Please keep pushing for more. This isn’t normal.

endofagain · 30/06/2022 23:57

I don't think an osteopath would help tbh, and I am a big fan of osteopaths.
i think you need to look at the psychological issues around sitting on the toilet and the anxiety of actual defecation. It is extraordinary how fear of pain can stop everything working.

Itneverends77 · 01/07/2022 00:00

@CharlotteRose90 The doctors haven’t expressed it to me as that as have told me to carry on the sachets? I’ve told them everything, they don’t seem overly concerned at all. I was the one that brought up doing a clear out of her in hospital even though I hate the thought of it, the Dr said not to as it’s awful for such a young child and really hard going on them. I have no idea what to do for the best at all!

There have been cases where it's very much been neglectfully missed that a small child has in fact had a twisted colon the whole time that even highly esteemed consultants have for whatever reason dismissed the idea or not bothered to check closely enough

Itneverends77 · 01/07/2022 00:01

@CharlotteRose90 How will it risk her life? Surely the doctors wouldn’t be so blasé if this was the case? They’ve seen the x-rays and scans of her stomach

OP posts:
Itneverends77 · 01/07/2022 00:02

@Sqeebling How do they check for this?

OP posts:
endofagain · 01/07/2022 00:03

Is the bathroom warm enough, seat comfortable and correct height, adequate privacy and time allowed? Do you have a footstool in place to raise her feet? Have you tried getting her to blow bubbles or blow up a balloon? I am sure I read that it is sometimes necessary to go up to 12 sachets, but you do need to give lots of fluid, or if they wont drink, give jelly, ice lollies, soup.
But, as pp have said, rule out any bowel injury or abnormality first.

Itneverends77 · 01/07/2022 00:06

@endofagain Ive talked to her gently about it a fair bit, I can’t be 100% sure of course, but I don’t think it’s the issue.
She tends to get worse around 20/30 minutes before having a poo. I’ll ask her if she needs one, she’ll say no. Then later she’ll run to the toilet saying she needs a poo. The strange thing I’ve noticed though is that she will have the behaviour for around 20/30 minutes *After the poo too 🤷🏻‍♀️I’ve told the dr all this and she can’t give me any answers. She seems to be fine with going to the toilet when the poo is ready now

OP posts:
Itneverends77 · 01/07/2022 00:09

@endofagain We have the step in the bathroom etc, I encourage her to just take her time and not to rush and so on.
She started to eat ice the other week during the pain, how can all this be normal?! I told the doctor all of this
Should I just take her to the emergency tomorrow, would they investigate even further?

Sqeebling · 01/07/2022 00:09

Check for sigmoid colon vulvulus and then at least you'll know it's not that and can focus on

Lactulose
Docusate
Movicol
Senna
Macrogel

Prunes
Dried apricots

And everything else

Itneverends77 · 01/07/2022 00:12

@Sqeebling I’ve just looked it up and it says an abdominal x ray would show this, which she’s had

OP posts:
endofagain · 01/07/2022 00:14

I would recommend that you watch the video, all the way to the end. Speak to ERIC - they may recommend a specialist to exclude volvulus. Come to terms with a 2 year program. 9 weeks is nothing, if this has been going on since January. Things may well improve sooner, but you must keep up the maintenance programme for at least 2 years,

Itneverends77 · 01/07/2022 00:15

She also wakes with tummy ache

OP posts:
endofagain · 01/07/2022 00:15

I agree that a plain abdominal Xray is the best diagnostic tool. But the ERIC helpline is excellent for advice. Call them tomorrow,

endofagain · 01/07/2022 00:18

Also, learn how to do abdominal massage correctly. ERIC might be able to point you to videos. It is important to understand the anatomy of the abdomen and the large bowel in order to massage properly and in the right direction.
