To have zero sympathy for Ghislaine Maxwell's 20 year sentence?

Mememene · 28/06/2022 20:49

She says she has been vilified and 'tried in 'court of public opinion':

I think she got away with it for way too long and might even believe her own BS. I have no sympathy and she is where she belongs.

Am I being unreasonable to think 20 years is not enough?

She's probably hoping to get a deal to be transferred to a more secure/safer unit. She knows that if she testifies she increases the risk that she'll go the same way as Epstein.

I'm thinking less about testifying but literally dumping all the information into the public like Wikileaks. Or using some kind of blockchain/NFT technology to permanently etch the incriminating evidence into Web3. It will literally become part of "history" so getting rid of copies will never get rid of their existence.

My theory is that she must have some kind of arrangement with her lawyers or a trusted contact that in the event of her unexpected death, all the evidence gets released online.

LetitiaLeghorn · 28/06/2022 22:20

She should serve time for what she did and facilitated. It should be in line with what others have received in the past. She shouldn't serve time for what others did. She shouldn't be threatened with the death sentence.
The sentence should fit the crime. We have had awful sex trafficking crimes in this country with the traffickers also doing the raping. I think some received similar sentences to her, others less and more. So her sentence seems fair. She'll probably be out in 10, though.

greywinds · 28/06/2022 22:24

If she really understood what was wrong with the way she's lived her life she'd have named names. What a waste of a life, a legacy of abuse and nothing positive at all.

It is a death sentence. Suspect the low sentence is in return for knowledge, or designed to look like that. Someone will get her.

im not remotely sympathetic, ans I’m a bleeding heart. I hope she is scared to go to sleep for a long time.

the men have got away with it, rich and powerful men always do. They had their useful Royal idiot and their madam scapegoat. Both will already be replaced and a whole new cohort of women will be being exploited. And so the world turns.

—kicks stuff—

All of these points

especially the last one.

the really predators are still out there, wearing suits and being shameless

MumE78 · 28/06/2022 22:36

20 years is nothing, she should have got life with no parol.

Tbh she will be killed in jail for what's she's done anyway

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 28/06/2022 22:44

No sympathy.

But it is infuriating that the men involved have managed to dodge the ball.

I hope she sings like a linty once the enormity of it all lands.

theworldhas · 28/06/2022 22:48

No sympathy at all, but she is also a scapegoat for the 100s of men in high places in the US, UK and elsewhere who almost certainly did much worse than she did and have received not even a slap on the wrist. Epstein was dispatched early enough! The church, politicians, aristocracy etc. But hey, here’s one evil woman. She’ll do.

jeaux90 · 28/06/2022 22:58

No sympathy either but I'd happily see her trade a few years off the sentence to get some of the men in the dock and charged.

HintofVintagePink · 28/06/2022 23:10

I don’t think she will survive even half that time.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 28/06/2022 23:15

I'd be perfectly happy if she stayed in prison for the rest of her natural life. I do however want to start seeing more of her male friends being investigated and arrested, they can start with Prince Andrew and work their way down.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 28/06/2022 23:18

She was a madam who procured children for rich men. She should have got longer.

I am disappointed that out of all the men involved in this child abuse ring, one woman has been put in prison.

PlanetNormal · 28/06/2022 23:26

It’s extraordinary that Maxwell, a highly intelligent & well educated person, has opted to keep her mouth shut and accept her fate rather than name Epstein’s powerful clients, to whom the victims were pimped out. She must be a very, very frightened woman.

CaptaNoctem · 28/06/2022 23:27

Had it been a fair trial I would agree with you

HRTQueen · 28/06/2022 23:32

I wonder how long now she will keep quiet

She had hope before that’s gone now

Agree she must be very frightened

FrustareNT · 28/06/2022 23:34

I think she has been made a scapegoat…she is guilty but how about the guys involved?

HeddaGarbled · 28/06/2022 23:52

I don’t know. The US justice system does give the appearance of being trial by public opinion, almost like the public vote on a reality TV show. It concerns me.

GodneySaysWorkBitch · 28/06/2022 23:57

Fair enough to sentence her but all the men involved are still raping young girls so it hasn't actually made much of a difference.

Florenz · 28/06/2022 23:58

Surely it's better to have your justice system in line with public opinion than being out of step with public opinion?

HeddaGarbled · 29/06/2022 00:03

No. The justice system should be level headed and dispassionate. Public opinion tends to the vigilante.

I think that's quite scary. Public opinion is so fickle and people are able to be riled up to go along with things unthinkingly. The law should be consistent and fairly applied to all. Otherwise you run the risk of people be judged on their personality as opposed to their deeds.

Florenz · 29/06/2022 00:41

It's possible to be level headed and dispassionate and still in line with public opinion. The law is supposed to be based on what normal people consider to be right and wrong.

No.

TruthHertz · 29/06/2022 00:59

I'm surprised how so many people are shocked that a woman could do this. Around 40% of sex traffickers are female according to the data.

butterflied · 29/06/2022 01:03

It's not enough.
