Please help, I'm not from the country so I know nothing about stuff like this.

My DD went for a walk with nursery and has come home with this on her leg. She says it hurts.

To think this is a tick? (Urgent!!)

Do not burst it. She might need antibiotics to ensure she doesn’t get lymes disease. I had l three week course after bursting one. I got a bulls eye rash too.

britneyisfree · 29/06/2022 18:49

She had leggings on! Not sure how it got in.

Thanks for the help - it's out, came out alive and with its head firmly attached and is currently in my fridge just in case any further investigation is needed.

Glad you got it out intact @britneyisfree, well done 🙂As others have said, those tick remover tools, that look like tiny crow bars, are brilliant and so easy to use. I really hope the posters suggesting smothering or burning now know not to do that, and the panicers are a bit calmer!

Salome61 · 29/06/2022 18:51

Glad to hear it, and hope many people now know what to do.

WhoKnowsProbsNotMe · 29/06/2022 18:54

Heat up a needle and put it on its back it might come out itself x

WhoKnowsProbsNotMe · 29/06/2022 18:55

Sorry just seen you got it out so I’ve missed the boat 😂 but glad you have! Xx

Benjispruce4 · 29/06/2022 18:56

Yes a tick. You can get a tick removal tool from chemist. Then wash area thoroughly and keep a check for symptoms of Lyme disease.

Kodi1981 · 29/06/2022 19:02

Hi this is a tick go to walk in centre they will remove it for you good Luck poor child

Iopo · 29/06/2022 19:04

Cancel the cheque!

OP bought the remover yesterday and removed the tick.

Mirw · 29/06/2022 19:06

Have always used vase line or a cotton pad with acetone. Have been getting bitten by ticks all my life, same as my parents and siblings. None of us have had Lyme*s disease!

Inwiththenew · 29/06/2022 19:22

You can put vodka on them leave it a few minutes and it should come off easily with some tweezers. Just sort of wiggle it a bit to make sure you’re getting the pincers out.

CustardySergeant · 29/06/2022 19:33

THE TICK WAS REMOVED YESTERDAY!

WestIsWest · 29/06/2022 19:42

THE TICK WAS REMOVED YESTERDAY!

😂Thankfully without any vodka, butter, Vaseline or burning involved!

britneyisfree · 29/06/2022 19:51

Deffo no vodka, butter or fire needed. However sounds like it could make an interesting drink? Maybe I could make a cocktail and stick the tick on the side of my glass and see what happens? 🤣🤣

Take her to a pharmacist.

Dibbydoos · 29/06/2022 20:14

Keep an eye on her esp if she develops cold/flu symptons. Ticks are horrible-bug-infested-no-idea-what-they-are-useful-for-insects! Hopefully she will be fine. I know we've pulled a few from our doggos in UK and they've been fine!

Lamaitresse · 29/06/2022 20:33

I’ve only read the first page of this thread, but am already horrified by all the misguided information that posters have given the OP 😱
Yes, it is a tick.
No, do not smother it in Vaseline or butter 🙈
Buy a tick remover from the pharmacy, twist it and gently but firmly pull it out.
Surely common sense dictates that you should actually know what you’re talking about before you give medical advice?!

SpeckledlyHen · 29/06/2022 20:42

Well done for getting that out in one go. The tick remover is really the best thing and I think a tool every household should have, pet or no pets. I have to get them off my dog occasionally but sometimes it's not easy because as you found out OP little ones and dogs wriggle!

SpeckledlyHen · 29/06/2022 20:43

Solonge · 29/06/2022 20:02

Cancel the cheque??🤔

Aguanatural · 29/06/2022 20:49

SMIDGE.

If you’re in an area where ticks are an issue, but smidge. It is amazing at repelling ticks. I love the stuff, and doesn’t smell hideously like deet does. Quick spray on the legs and off you go. Obviously tick check afterwards and always keep a remover handy. But a bottle of Smidge is a godsend.

Onelovelyone · 29/06/2022 20:55

It is definitely a tick. Either but a remover or, if not confident, go to a walk in centre. The key thing when removing is not to leave the head behind. So sorry this has occurred.

It lands on you, breaks the skin using its evil insect bits (there are many, they are devious), gets in (or sucks something out, or puts something in) - job done.

mrslrc · 29/06/2022 21:02

Use any type of moisturiser, just keep it covered with it. Makes it suffocate and it will pull out.
