to ask if your automatic car is any good?

Planning to buy an automatic in a few weeks (second hand, I’m not made of money!). It needs to fit a toddler car seat in the back so I’m thinking not a hatch back. But ideally quite small and un-fancy.
If you drive an automatic, I would be really grateful for your car reviews!
sorry there wasn’t a ‘car’ section so AIBU it was..

Kia Niro (hybrid) - they only come as automatic which I wasn't a fan of at the time but now totally converted! Bought 2nd hand and very good value plus tank of petrol lasts for ages.

happystrummer · 27/06/2022 22:35

Got a hyundai i10 a few weeks ago. First automatic I've had. Absolutely love it and so easy to drive

WimpoleHat · 27/06/2022 22:35

I resisted an automatic for years….don’t know why as they’re fantastic! So easy to drive.

automatic Volkswagen Golf.

absolute dream

Same. Brilliant car.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 27/06/2022 22:36

Honda Civic. Great family car, very reliable. The boot is really spacious, the back seats can also fold up. Would easily stick to always owning a Honda Civic. Japanese cars imo are more reliable and long lasting.

Bouledeneige · 27/06/2022 22:37

Mine is an automatic Mini Countryman and I love it.

Wouldloveanother · 27/06/2022 22:37

Thanks everyone!
im taking my driving test (automatic) in a few weeks, if I pass I want to buy a car instantly so I don’t ‘lapse’. Budget is maximum £2500, so not much really. I thought a hatchback wouldn’t be great as there’s no door to get kids in and out? Maybe im mistaken there! But really just something easy to drive/park that isn’t mega embarrassing (my dad insisted on a Toyota jimney for my sisters first car, poor thing)

Renault Zoe, I love her so much I sometimes hug her.

Fillystine · 27/06/2022 22:37

I would never go back to a manual car. When our son was small we had a Mercedes C class auto and a BMW Z4, then a BMW 3 series touring - all of which were fantastic, now a BMW X3 and a Mercedes SLC, also a manual Fiesta which I HATE!

PrisonerofZeroCovid · 27/06/2022 22:38

on a budget, look at Kia. I have the sportage but there are smaller cars available. Drives really nicely, very reliable and they have a really good warranty.

Penguintears · 27/06/2022 22:38

I have a Toyota C-HR hybrid. Its not big but surpsingly spacious inside and so comfortable and easy to drive. It's self-charging so you don't need to plug it in and in traffic etc it runs on the electric so you save on petrol. Also has really high safety ratings, lots of safety features and very reliable.

AWOIF · 27/06/2022 22:40

I have a Honda jaZz bought it last week. It's 16 years old though. But is spacious and I love driving it

Ylvamoon · 27/06/2022 22:40

Another vote for VW Golf.
It's my first automatic, and an absolute dream to drive.

(I was sceptic at first as I got the automatic due to an injury. I couldn't drive through busy areas in my manual without being in agony from all the gear changes. Its an life changer for me.)

BlackAndPinkNose · 27/06/2022 22:42

Can never imagine driving an automatic again. I have had a Volvo XC60 auto; a Fiat 500 auto; several auto Saabs and Vauxhalls and now have an electric car that is auto. So easy to drive

niki26 · 27/06/2022 22:45

I have an automatic BMW i3 - an electric car, and I absolutely love it! It's not the prettiest car but definitely the most practical I've ever driven.

BackToTheTop · 27/06/2022 22:46

I've got a Mini Cooper auto and I absolutely love it. I do a fair few miles for work, it's a diesel and will easily do over 55mpg. I chose an auto as I get stuck in traffic a lot and a manual is a pain in the arse (or leg), having to keep depressing the clutch all the time.

I find the mini surprisingly good over long distances and it's a lot of fun to drive.

I'd not go back to a manual car

Did you like the 500? I hate ours. It doesnt 'drive' so rolls back on hills, I find it non responsive and clunky.

charliewww · 27/06/2022 22:48

I have a Peugeot 3008 automatic and I love it so much. I would never go back to manual!

LovinglifeAF · 27/06/2022 22:49

I’ve got an automatic Volvo v40

love it

WhenDovesFly · 27/06/2022 22:50

I've got a 4 door Ford Fiesta on a 68 plate and I love it. Lots of room inside too.

Sorry I didn’t make myself clear I was looking for specific recommendations as to make model etc

We have a Range Rover for our main family car, and a little Electric Smart for around town. Both are excellent for doing their main job.

The RR is not great on petrol consumption, but it’s not used other than for the longer journeys.

TildaRae · 27/06/2022 22:53

I drive an automatic golf. The dsg gearbox is effortless. Don’t discount a hatchback. I’ve always had hatchbacks even when my children were younger.

Make sure you get a 5 door, you're thinking of 3 door hatchbacks.

Please could you tell me how many miles you get per charge. Have you got battery on lease?

rickandmorts · 27/06/2022 22:55
