To ask what hobby you do?

Becoming more and more aware that I don't have any hobbies and aside from work I have nothing to talk about when catching up with friends.

I don't have any obvious interests that could lead into a hobby.

AIBU to ask you for ideas for a hobby?

Perhaps it is something you do or have done and can offer some insight into it.

I'm thinking something with other people rather than a solo thing.

OP posts:

Lapidary
Pottery - throwing and hand building
Running
Weight training
Painting
Cooking
Gardening/growing food

I'm unsociable as fuck though, so I like things that never bring me into contact with people unless absolutely necessary Grin

c3pu · 27/06/2022 15:37

Astrophotography
Gardening
Home brewing
DIY

Basically, things that keep me busy that have very little social interaction because I'm awkward as fuck.

Lactarius · 27/06/2022 15:40

coffeecupsandfairylights · 27/06/2022 15:43

When I meet up with friends, apart from work and family stuff we tend to veer on to the subject of whatever's in the news, any recent travel we've done/are planning, stuff like that. We do talk about books a lot, and sometimes what we've been watching on Netflix or whatever - either things we've all seen or are recommending or whatever. I suppose reading and watching films/tv are hobbies though.

As well being a super-keen reader, I'm into cooking, restaurants, running, wildlife/bird-watching, horror films, travel, makeup, and various vaguely arty things like colouring and creative journalling/collage-making which require no actual talent. I also write fiction and I'm trying to get into a gardening a bit at the moment.

I'm not sure that hobbies are always an interesting topic of conversation for people who don't share that hobby. Mine aren't, anyway! Although maybe that's because they aren't sociable ones. I do have friends who are members of sports clubs or choirs or amateur theatre groups and things, and they talk about people they've met through that and things, I suppose, rather than the actual hobby.

I'm having piano lessons and french lessons. I absolutely love my piano lessons. I'm not great and things don't sink in as well as they did when I was a kid, but it's just fab.

Knitting, sewing, drawing, colouring

BeanCounterBabe · 27/06/2022 19:53

Choir (quite demanding audition required choir) and sea swimming. Not something I talk to existing friends about a great deal but I have met new ones through both.

prettyteapotsplease · 27/06/2022 19:54

Knitting, which I began again during the second lock down can be addictive, and I've always loved sewing, especially patchwork quilting.

Freda999 · 27/06/2022 19:58

Walking/dog walking, photography, painting, reading, occasional bit of DIY/upcycle. Raiding charity shops, crochet, Netflix, baking.

2reefsin30knots · 27/06/2022 20:00

I'm a sailing-roadie. It's my son's hobby not mine, but I do spend a lot of time packing for sailing, driving to sailing, unloading for sailing, rigging and launching for sailing, talking to other sailing roadies, pottering about next to sailing, then doing it all in reverse.

It does also mean I get to spend a lot of time next to water in some incredibly beautiful places, which is a good hobby. I collect sea glass but I haven't thought of what to do with it yet.

MassiveSalad22 · 27/06/2022 20:00

God I have tons but mainly solo! I find organised fun in groups a bit unnatural 🤣 things I do in a group is really only going out to dinner with friends, thinking about it!!

Otherwise my hobbies are:

walking with a podcast
watercolours
reading
sketching
baking
sewing machine
