To drink alcohol free beer from tap

Currently pregnant. I enjoy an occasional alcohol free beer. We went to a pub and, unusually, they had an alcohol free beer on tap, so I ordered it. DH said wasn’t I worried about it, in case the barrel was connected wrongly, or they used the wrong tap, and I accidentally got a “real” beer. I think it was a bit of a ridiculous concern. It’s a pub we got to a lot. It’s very clean and organised, and surely they must have procedures in place for allergies etc. anyway. Just to clarify, he would have been fine if I’d had a bottle or can, it was purely because it was from the tap.

Just to add: I know there are divided opinions on drinking alcohol free drinks in pregnancy, so just want to say that I have done my own research and am very comfortable with having one from time to time.

@Tinkletwat It was Paradiso Citra IPA from Big Drop Brewing Co. A bit watery, but I love a citra hop beer, so I was a fan! It’s a hipster-y craft beer type pub. They change tap beers regularly so it likely won’t be on for long.

DH is pretty risk averse in life, but this 100% that he was worried I would accidentally drink something (a pint of alcoholic beer) that I didn’t want to, rather than the actual risk to the baby. It was more a passing comment and I felt the risk was very low (so I drank it!), but then had a subsequent panic (can I blame pregnancy hormones?) that I had taken an unnecessary risk, hence my post.

It was definitely nothing to do with appearances on DH’s part - I drink cans and bottles of non-alcoholic beer in this same pub, which are poured into beer glasses, and unless anyone came over to our table and examined the can/bottle close up they would have no idea it was non-alcoholic.

Anyway I am reassured, plus I have more stats now about alcohol in food and drink if drinking non-alcoholic beer in pregnancy comes up again with my American friends. Mind you, that would probably just make them tell me I should give up all fruit juice and sugary bread products too.😂

I was expecting you to say aren't you worried about being judged as a pregnant woman drinking what looks like a beer in public. I wouldn't worry at all about that, plus 1 beer wouldn't harm baby anyway as a one off.

Your husbands reaction is a bit off. I hope he is less neurotic when the baby comes or you could end up having a tough time of it.

I wouldn't be worried about this at all. The chances of them hooking up the wrong drink, and then nobody realising, are very, very low. I just can't see it happening.
