AIBU to think £645 is too much for 1 night stay anywhere?

Backstory, my daughter is turning 7 later in August and wants to stay at Legoland for her birthday, also because a few years ago we stayed over for her sisters birthday. Till this day they still say it was the best holiday. My husband and I disliked it mostly, but that's another story.

I really wanted to do this for her, but can't because we just don't have that money, and I can't help but think it is a computer error. We're also not having a party as all her friends are away when it's her birthday, and she said she doesn't want anything else gift wise.
P.s. She likes staying over more than the rides :/

I checked back in my emails and in 2019 we paid £180 for 1 night and got park tickets included, and breakfast.

AIBU to say No this is just too expensive. I feel so guilty as I told her "yes, maybe" before I looked at the prices.Any suggestions of alternative places that won't be more than £300 in and around London.

It’s ridiculous the prices now days, I wouldn’t be paying for that! Is there not another hotel in the area cheaper and drive to Legoland?

lickenchugget · 23/06/2022 10:48

Paulton's Park instead? We paid around £350 for 4 tickets and a hotel. Everywhere has gone up

Mrsbluesk1 · 23/06/2022 10:49

We went on a family holiday to the South of France for 4 days. Stayed in a 3 star hotel with pool and breakfast included, flights and taxi over to hotel came in to £900. It just doesn't make sense.

I've heard nice things about Paultons. That's a good suggestion. Thank you

It's really lovely and clean and much nicer than Legoland IMO

Mrsbluesk1 · 23/06/2022 10:52

@Rach1203 sadly the hotel with its treasure chest and pirate theme is the main reason she wants to stay there.

Have you checked dates around her birthday as well as on her birthday itself? You said late August - it might miraculously half in price in early September! Even if you waited until a Friday or Saturday night once the schools have gone back.

I think she is old enough to understand that it is too expensive for certain dates and cheaper for others. Anyway it might be full on the preferred date (I know it isn't, but it could be and she'd have to accept that).

riesenrad · 23/06/2022 10:55

Was her sister's birthday in August as well?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/06/2022 10:59

Sounds random but have you seen if Denmark works out cheaper? We went a few years ago and it was quite quiet in Denmark in August.

BertieQueen · 23/06/2022 11:16

We did legoland in March for 1 night (not school holidays) for just under £300 with tickets included. I wouldn’t pay more than that to be honest as not worth it especially for how busy it will be during the summer holidays. It would not be enjoyable.

Chessington is usually cheaper than Legoland. We are staying next month in the school holidays for £244. Tickets included.

ScatteredMama82 · 23/06/2022 11:18

in September it’s half that price.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 23/06/2022 11:20

Lego land is a shithole, but I’ve heard good things about the one in Denmark.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/06/2022 11:21

Could you not stay in slough or maidenhead travelodge? For legoland, I mean.
I used to do that and get a taxi from slough to legoland as I didnt drive.

kittythames · 23/06/2022 11:22

Mr friends and her@ family went last weekend. Two adults, two children, two days tickets, hotel and photo pass for less than £250. There are offers around if you can be flexible with dates.

Mrsbluesk1 · 23/06/2022 11:36

@Aroundtheworldin80moves What a brilliant suggestion, with some careful planning Denmark might actually be cheaper for us.

Also I've never been to Denmark before.

@riesenrad her sisters birthday is in Winter, just after they reopen the parks, so understandably loads cheaper. This is probably one of those drawbacks to having a summer birthday.

Billund Airport is very close to the Park, and there are the legoland hotels and Holiday Village are very close by too.

Candleabra · 23/06/2022 11:41

The one in Windsor? It’s shit. You couldn’t pay me that much to go again. I’d go somewhere else

Mrsbluesk1 · 23/06/2022 11:43

@Snoopsnoggysnog 😂It truly is the Pitt's. They didn't have adults in mind when creating it. We got through it last time with some serious expectation management. The kids love it though.

I think Drayton Manor is cheaper, they have themed hotel rooms too

Lonelycrab · 23/06/2022 11:49

Paultons over legoland any day.

motogirl · 23/06/2022 11:51

I stayed at the de vere which is nearby then get a special offer on tickets eg blue Peter badge get in free, some cereals etc have bogof

Mrsbluesk1 · 23/06/2022 13:49

Thank you for speaking sense and making me feel better for not forking out that much money for 1 day.

I have looked at Paultons, De Vere hotel, Drayton Manor and a trip to Denmark as alternatives and they all look like a better day/s out, value and quality. So Thank you for all the suggestions.

I’ve been a few times when the DC were younger. All the Lego models looked so old and tired. In august it was so dirty and full of wasps everywhere because no one cleaned up any spilled drinks.

My friend’s daughter aged about 3 got on a ride, the staff are supposed to check kids are properly secured, then started the ride without doing so, she nearly fell off and I made them stop the ride and took her off. They were totally useless and could not have cared less. Such shit service and terrible, terrible food. Can you tell I hate the place?!

Bunnycat101 · 23/06/2022 14:37

I really like the set-up of paultons. It’s clean, there are lots of playgrounds dotted around etc. Only downside is a lack of on-site hotel. I was looking at the Lego land hotel last night and was shocked by the price. I’d rather get a q-bot than stay over.

I don’t know about prices but the other attraction that might be worth a look is Warwick castle as you can stay on site.
