To take a buggy on holiday for nearly 4yr old DD

Hi all,

We are going away in a couple of days and I am undecided on weather to take the buggy. We last went away with DD when she was around 18 months and it was god send. We didn't have to be back in the room for her nap, I didn't have to carry a changing bag and we could stay out past her bedtime.

This time she is obviously older but I am still thinking about taking it, it's meant to be around 33 degrees in the day time and although she isn't a bad walker, I still think she will find it tough. There is also a hope that she will nap in the buggy. Also with the queues at the airport at the moment I think it will be a bit easier.

Aibu?

Definitely take it! Too many variables and situations in which you and she may be glad of it

AmbushedByCake · 22/06/2022 16:01

Nothing to spoil a holiday faster than a hot preschooler who would rather lie down and scream than walk another step!

Twizbe · 22/06/2022 16:02

I'm having the same debate.

I've decided not to take it but we're staying at an all inc resort and walking will be limited really. It feels like just an extra thing to carry.

Take it, you’ll regret it if you don’t.

Soontobe60 · 22/06/2022 16:02

Before you decide, get her to sit in the buggy and see if she still fits! My 4yr old grandson doesn’t!!!

welshladywhois40 · 22/06/2022 16:02

Take it. I took my son to a theme park for his 4 birthday and took the buggy. He happily hoped in for tests between rides

We used it the other month for a wedding so thankfully she still fits in it, even when it's flat.

Does she still fit the weight limit?

WhatNoRaisins · 22/06/2022 16:05

If she still naps it's probably a good idea.

Caspianberg · 22/06/2022 16:06

I would. Mainly for airports ( in laws waited 3hrs on arrival at Heathrow a few days ago).

Handy to use to pile beach stuff on also. And like you say, nap if it’s hotter than they are used to

You can always just not use if not needed

Ponoka7 · 22/06/2022 16:06

I'd take it, then you are ok to do whatever you want without having to consider her being tired, or the walking a bit too much.

She doesn't have a scheduled nap anymore unless she is a bit cranky then I will put her down for one, but I think in the heat and out of a routine she will.

Definitely take it. We've just got back from holiday with our four year old, two year old and six month old. Most of the time the older two walkef however a couple of times we went for later dinners and it was too far for them to walk back when they were tired. I had the baby in a wrap while the other two were each in a buggy. We only used it for the oldest when she was getting tired

whoruntheworldgirls · 22/06/2022 16:23

No help for getting tired on walks as we just do the odd piggyback/on shoulders but we have a trunki type case for my daughters carry on so she sits on that in airport ques then we pull her round on it to get through to the gate.
She naps fine on the sun lounger under a towel and parasol

itsgettingweird · 22/06/2022 16:29

I'd think you're mad if you didn't 🤣🤣🤣

uncomfortablydumb53 · 22/06/2022 16:48

Definitely take it

motogirl · 22/06/2022 17:13

Yes, I took the double buggy until mine were 5&3 then the single until dd2 was 5, sometimes dd2 sat on dd1's lap even then. We missed it once we got rid of it

Cuck00soup · 22/06/2022 17:16

When DS was 4 and DD 1 we thought it would be fine to take just one pushchair.

We got to about 3 days in before hiring another one.

Used for beach stuff during the day and the tired 4 year old in the evening

Littlebutload · 22/06/2022 17:17

I would definitely take it, especially the way airports are at the moment!

Toottooot · 22/06/2022 17:18

What kind of buggy do you use for a 4 year old? I have a tall 3 year old and would love to know what’s suitable for them!

grey12 · 22/06/2022 17:20

There are some very small ones :) and either way you can load it with the bags/water/wtv

zafferana · 22/06/2022 17:23

Take it! Always useful to have somewhere for a hot, tired DC to sit down and the last thing you want to do is have to carry her in the heat. Take a decent sunshade for it too. We had a huge one from an Aussie company called 'Protect-a-bub', which meant the whole chair was shaded and they could nap without fear of sunburn.

CactusFlowers · 22/06/2022 17:37

Take it, even if all you end up using it for is throwing in all your crap in the way to the beach.

CombatBarbie · 22/06/2022 17:38

We did, such a godsend in warm weather and they get tired.

This is when I miss no longer having a pushchair. A dumping ground for everything and a napping spot for when they're tired
