To hate head massages at the hairdressers?

Yesterday the hairdresser washed my hair and then gave me a long head and even the front of my head an intense massage. It felt weirdly intimate and inappropriate even though I know others love it. Aibu to dislike this and wish they would stick to cutting hair ?

I love it, will sometimes book a facial and a scalp massage ... I really only want the massage Grin. Can't be much fun doing it though ...

Edinvillian · 21/06/2022 22:59

I completely agree. I hate it.

Hate it! I always say to them can you wash my hair quickly, no massages or anything please!

This is me. My hairdresser knows by now. No added extras..just get on with the job. I found that if my hairdresser was busy finishing another client she encouraged the trainee to do head massage etc so l wouldn't be sitting around waiting. But l made it clear that sitting waiting was fine with me..so no massage!!

OldLadyInPolyester · 21/06/2022 23:01

I love the acrual feeling but yeah it's a bit creepy. I feel the same about body massages. I just imagine the young girl doing them, bored and a bit grossed out 😬

badgermushrooms · 21/06/2022 23:02

I hate being touched by strangers and find going to the hairdressers really uncomfortable at the best of times. This sort of stuff just being done to you with the assumption that anyone who's not a weirdo will like it is why I now cut my own hair.

Purringcat3 · 21/06/2022 23:04

The trainees will love it if you say no
often they are used as an excuse to buy some time for the stylist if they are running behind 😅

Beingadiv · 21/06/2022 23:05

Hate them. I'm not a massage fan. Plus the sinks are so uncomfortable. I ask them not to and make up.somethjng about nerve pain

alongtimeagoandfaraway · 21/06/2022 23:06

I loathe it and have told my hairdresser so they don’t do it now. I find it the opposite of relaxing so no point in wasting their time.

withiceplease · 21/06/2022 23:08

I loathe them. Horrible.
My hairdressers have always remembered though not to do it. I presume it can be noted on computer

FastnetLundyRockall · 21/06/2022 23:10

I hate it but I always forget about it until it actually happens, at which point it's always too awkward to say anything

I completely agree!!! I hate it, it feels too intimate for a stranger to be doing that!

tobee · 21/06/2022 23:21

Mine seems to have stopped doing it 😭

Fashiontatts · 21/06/2022 23:31

I hate it! I always ask them to not bother with the massage when washing my hair...! Almost everyone I've mentioned it to thinks I'm mad and they love it 🤣

SquirrelFan · 21/06/2022 23:31

Another no from me - can't bear them, especially as my neck is already being broken by the badly placed sink dip. It's just 5 minutes longer of not being able to swallow. Such a relief when it's over. I can never ask them to stop as I'm afraid they'll take it personally.

Tezza1 · 21/06/2022 23:36

I love it. I can almost feel myself starting to purr. I like back massages too, which is odd, as I hate random people touching me. Air kisses, acquaitance hugs – ugh.

RippleQueen · 21/06/2022 23:48

I hate hairdresser head massages too and any inane chat as well.
Once went to a hairdressers that had massage chairs and it was horrible.

middleager · 21/06/2022 23:49

Oh I had this. She had frighteningly long false nails and they dug into my skull.

OneTC · 21/06/2022 23:50

Any form of massage can do one.

SausageAndCash · 21/06/2022 23:51

Can’t stand it.
Utterly cringeworthy.

Hollywolly1 · 21/06/2022 23:51

Most unreasonable post ever,I would let them massage my head forever 😄

leavethewallalone · 21/06/2022 23:52

It's the best bit. My current hair dresser doesn't do it which is a shame but she is the best in the area at colouring, so swings and roundabouts.

GoldenOmber · 21/06/2022 23:52

YANBU, it’s horrible.

ThinWomansBrain · 21/06/2022 23:55

why ask here? why not simply tell the hairdresser you don;t want one?

DramaAlpaca · 22/06/2022 00:16

I hate it. I just ask them not to do it, it's never an issue.

myuterusistryingtokillme · 22/06/2022 00:24

Not unreasonable, I hate it too and find it white cringy
