This is mumsnet. Why are there people on here who admit they are not mums preaching to mums about budgeting? Very confused. I thought this was for mums!

Here we go 🙄🙄🙄

I guess it depends on your priorities and budgeting, housing costs etc.

We have combined income of around £45k and save £150 per month towards holidays. We have a foreign holiday every 2-3yrs and a couple of cheaper UK breaks every year with 2 school age children.

Unless you are paying a very high mortgage or childcare then you should easily have a holiday on that income.

our household income is 55k and we go to florida every single year, during school holidays, usually for more than two weeks. Definitely need to look at your budget there

But the key is what is your mortgage? Housing costs are probably the biggest cost surely?

my household income is a little higher than OP, and the household is just me!

I couldn’t afford a holiday this year because I am building an extension and putting in a new kitchen.

so many factors at play in personal finances

So many factors that have an impact on this, you could have large outgoings for a number of things. My household has 100k a year coming in and we have to
budget hard for holidays. We aim to have 1 week abroad and a week in the UK plus a weekend away. But to be honest I’ve been guilty of leaving us short to
achieve this. Holidays are one of my pain priorities but I do often wonder how people afford the big holidays like the Maldives or USA as I’d have to save for a while for that. I tend to holiday in Europe

The thing is we’re all so different. We literally live for holidays. So although our income is fairly small compared to many - mixture of husbands low wage, disability benefits (me and Ds are quite severely disabled and on the top rates as an ongoing award) and top up of disability element tax credits- we put £300 ish a month towards holidays, maybe more. We usually have at least one nice 4/5 star week abroad a year and one week at Haven. But - we let everything else suffer 😳🙈😆 We don’t have a mortgage as we own our house outright so that helps but we don’t save much, we don’t prioritise doing stuff round the house. At some point yeah it will need doing but why that when you can have fun instead… 🤷‍♀️😆 I know my Mum (if she was alive) would be horrified. She was the complete opposite and lived her life in a constant state of fear or something going wrong with the house and needing to have money to sort it. We just hope and pray and accept we will have to borrow money or seriously cut back elsewhere if we needed to.
