To ask for a hand hold. We lost our home.

We have had a house fire. We weren't there and are all ok. We have lost the majority of our belongings, we were visiting family so had a suitcase of clothes/toiletries . We are staying there until accommodation can be sorted in our home town. It was upstairs so some of down stairs may be salvageable although some has smoke damage but need to wait till it's been assessed . It's just unreal we have gone from having normal everyday lives to losing our home within a few hours. We are lucky to have family support and that we are all ok but all our stuff is gone (memories etc. we don't know if it will all be covered on insurance yet and there's stuff that's irreplaceable. Nothing anyone can do just want to share.

A handhold from me and 🌹🌺

Eileen101 · 19/06/2022 06:55

Sending lots of love. I have some experience of be this professionally. Don't be afraid to keep chasing your insurer, loss adjuster and relevant contractor, including sorting alternative accommodation.
It's awful and traumatic, and hopefully all will be repaired as soon as possible.

ThatsALotOfPassionfruit · 19/06/2022 06:59

Oh I’m so sorry, you must be devastated.

Uninspiredusername · 19/06/2022 07:00

You poor thing - what an awful shock. Thank goodness you weren’t there (and hope any neighbours / pets all fine). Will keep fingers crossed insurance covers it but if course, it doesn’t account for the sentimental items…

MrsAliceRichards · 19/06/2022 07:00

Big hugs to you, we had this happen to us about eight years ago. Like you we weren't home but had popped down to mil's to kill an hour before bedtime as it was Christmas and our routine was all over the place. We were left with the shirts on our back as the smoke damage was too bad. We managed to save crystal and some jewellery but that was pretty much it. Big hugs, it's a nightmare. Feel free to PM me if you want. I think the reality of what happened didn't hit me until long after it happened as the relief that we hadn't been there carried me through the early months. Start making a list each day of what you need for the next. The kindness we experienced from family and friends who arrived with sacks of new clothes especially for the kids etc was unbelievable. Mind yourselves.

That’s so scary and traumatic for you.
Thankfully you’re all safe. 💐

AperolWhore · 19/06/2022 07:02

This happened to us when I was 18, I was sleeping when it happened but managed to get out.

We we’re in rented accommodation for 18m until our house was liveable again but we got through it!

Sending big big hugs xx

Cervinia · 19/06/2022 07:03

I’m so sorry, I really am. I’m so glad you’re all safe.

Clarinet1 · 19/06/2022 07:06

Oh OP I’m so sorry. Big hug and handhold! Hope you get more idea of what can be done re insurance, temporary accommodation etc. as soon as possible. Thank goodness no one was hurt and you still have each other.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 19/06/2022 07:10

Oh Op how awful, big hugs to you all

JuneJubilee · 19/06/2022 07:13

🖐🏼 ((HUG)))

I am SO sorry x

Im a hugely sentimental person, so I can somewhat imagine how devastated you must be feeling.

Friends/Family will be able to help you replace some of those memory things, such as photos. Though with the cloud these days, hopefully you'll have a lot yourself.

my best friends were flooded, no warning, & the water was contaminated with sewage, so what wasn't completely ruined with the water had to be disposed of anyway. Dreadful.

How far away from home are/were you? If you were my friend/neighbour, you'd be welcome to stay with me so you were close to home. Let people know if it's something you'd like to do.

Have they said yet what they think caused it?

((((HUG))))

SmartCarDriver · 19/06/2022 07:17

Oh my goodness, huge hug. What an awful thing to happen, you must be so traumatised.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/06/2022 07:18

Oh gosh at Christmas! It's not really hot home yet as parents have everything even toys for kids. I'm thinking when we get the accommodation it will be so empty

Thank you, it was an electrical fault upstairs. It's so worrying I just hope insurance are on the ball and cover all loss. It's so hard to write down everything we have lost .

BellaVita · 19/06/2022 07:25

So sorry OP 😥

if it’s the same one, I have literally just read about it….

Big positive, you weren’t there. No one got hurt and things can be replaced. I am sure family and friends will rally round if the insurance doesn’t pay out.

Sending you a big hug xx

oopsfellover · 19/06/2022 07:37

So sorry to hear this OP. I hope everything gets sorted as quickly and painlessly as is possible in this shitty situation x
