Does anyone else just find it too hot to sit in the garden ?

I just can't do it. How do you stay cool unless there's a pool or the sea or another way to cool down? I stayed mostly indoors today and usually do.

Does anyone else feel like this or am I a vampire like my husband says?

I can handle the sun when I'm regularly dipping in a pool. Otherwise I just get too hot, even in the shade.

Same here. I'm in the shade at 25 degrees

XelaM · 17/06/2022 23:36

I stayed in the shade 🤷‍♀️

Absolutely. There's this weird pressure in the UK to be outside, "enjoying it", when it's hot here.

I've been in and out of the garden all afternoon, and this is the time that I actually appreciate our dark north-facing kitchen - it's been lovely and cool!

FrenchBoule · 17/06/2022 23:41

No. Hello from Scottish Highlands. Balmy 17 degrees today and blowing a hoolie. Less balmy 12 degrees forecast for tomorrow(daytime temperatures to be clear)

CharlotteSt · 17/06/2022 23:41

As someone who's been stuck in an office all day...

Anyway when it is really hot, I sit under the parasol.

OMG people always tell me to go outside !!!! It's so annoying. I just find it really hard. It really exhausts me. It's just uncomfortable.

Me too... doing the school runs I got so deflated with the sun I had to lie down for a while.

EmotionalSupportWyrm · 17/06/2022 23:45

I've been indoors with doors and windows open - nice through breeze! definitely too hot to sit outside here - even under a parasol. The dogs agreed,

pixie5121 · 18/06/2022 00:12

Yes, it really was too hot today, and I say this as someone who has lived in Spain for long periods. I enjoyed sitting out on the balcony until about 11am, then stayed in an indoor, air conditioned space until almost 6pm.

The heat really drains you. I walked about 40 mins home from where I was and it felt like much more effort than it usually is.

I much prefer our usual summer temperatures of high teens to low/mid twenties. Pleasant, lovely to sit out in and you can walk around without getting all sweaty and miserable.

DinosaursEatMan · 18/06/2022 00:17

I did sit in the garden and thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was 10pm and I had a glass of wine. Earlier in the day, absolutely not.

Nobheadex · 18/06/2022 00:29

I am spending my time hunched over an aircon machine, growling. It’s too hot. I hate it. I was engineered for drizzle.

RoseMartha · 18/06/2022 00:32

When I had a garden it was usually too hot to sit out there for more than half an hour. Now I just wish I had a garden.

Micsam89 · 18/06/2022 00:34

Just curious, as an Aussie - what temperature do you think it is that goes from pleasantly warm to too hot for locals in the UK? I remember years ago I was on a working holiday in Cambridge and people were sunbaking in the park during a heat wave. But I was still wearing a jumper and jeans.

Nobheadex · 18/06/2022 00:39

22.6 degrees. Over that and I’m miserable.

FrozZen · 18/06/2022 00:42

Spray bottle. Feet in a bucket. Shade from a cloth or parasol. Wet tea towel on head and neck. 37 here today. Tepid showers (not cold). Don't dry yourself off. (I have no electricity so have to make it up to keep cool).

FrozZen · 18/06/2022 00:44

Oh, n a fan. Made of paper or card. Pray for a fan wallah to waft cool air at you. Or DIY!

Living in England sounds shit.

ClinkeyMonkey · 18/06/2022 00:47

If I had sat in the garden today, I'd have been soaked. Am near BelfastGrin

Where do you live out of interest? I've always wondered whether anywhere has the perfect climate...and if it did, wouldn't we all live there?!

I suppose it depends if you like the heat?

UndertheCedartree · 18/06/2022 00:56

A tip for you OP - have you got a paddling pool? Fill with cool water and sit with your feet in...beautiful! I live by the sea too so paddling in the sea is lovely too!

Late twenties-30 degrees is totally different in the UK to Australia as our houses are built to keep heat in and most houses and public transport often don’t have air con, plus beaches and outdoor pools are less plentiful (greater proportion of Australia lives on coast). So temperatures that would feel fine in Australia feel too hot here, it’s less to do with locals not being able to tolerate heat. I’d say above 25 degrees is uncomfortable/too hot here. I’ve been to Australia and it’s been 25 degrees and no one was wearing jumpers and jeans, everyone was dressed in shorts/how people in the UK would dress in that weather.
maybe it was around 16–18 degrees when you were wearing a jumper and jeans and people were sunbathing-the kind of weather that is cold to walk around in but warm if you find a patch of sun to lie in. This wouldn’t be a heatwave though!

Rainbowshit · 18/06/2022 01:06

I'll swap you. It's freezing in Scotland. (Ok slight exaggeration but relatively))

I think when it gets to 30 it feels too hot. That's when I need to get to the beach or get the paddling pool out!
