Omg has anyone been struggling with their hay fever over this past week?! What the hell is in the pollen this year.

I’ve taken my usual nasal spray and tablets and have had to up the dosage. I’m certain that I’ve sneezed more than 100 times. I want to pull my eyes out and my nose is running non stop. I also have asthma so this hay fever is just killing me. Anyone else??

I’ve never heard of this either. I’ll defo buy this. Thank you!

It's been fab for me, I've been getting it on script the last 2 yrs after someone recommended it to me so I was pleased when it came out over the counter this year as its less faff and cheaper than paying the script charge.

It's not bomb proof when the pollen is this bad but its so much better than the other stuff you get. For reference the other over the counter tablets you get are 10mg... This is 120mg! I take it in the morning and its killed it for me last few days till about 7pm when I get a bit sneezy and the hay-fever fatigue has set in (that might be down to wine tonight though!). But I where near as bad as I would be normally and no crazy itching mouth, nose and eyes!

Most supermarkets are sticking it now I think, just mentioned sainsburys as it's cheapest there.

Suffering here too!

I am having the hay fever jab tomorrow. I had one last year and it cured my hayfever completely.
Could you try that?

What is the drug in the jab? My 12yo has it so badly I'm wondering if I could get him the jab.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 17/06/2022 23:58

It’s definitely worse this year.

TolkiensFallow · 19/06/2022 06:44

Apparently it’s something called a Pollen Bomb.

QuebecBagnet · 19/06/2022 06:46

I’ve never had hay fever before but have it quite badly this year, at least I’m assuming that’s what it is. 3 weeks of being bunged up, my sinuses feel full, gallons of snot up there which I struggle to get out, tired, dry eyes.

DashboardConfessional · 19/06/2022 07:24

What the actual fuck is going on this year. Mine started in April and I ended up with an inhaler and a chest infection. It's started up again this week and nothing is touching it!

itispersonal · 19/06/2022 07:37

My hay fever has been horrendous and a couple of weeks ago I woke up and I looked like I had done 12 rounds with Tyson my eyes were all red, sore and swollen, I folds upon folds on my eye lids! I always get itchy eyes during hay fever season but my eyes have never swollen up before!!! I woke up similar on Monday too

I'm on the highest dose of anti histamine apparently 180mg of flexofenadine(??) and eye drops too!

aleC4 · 19/06/2022 07:41

My hay fever has been really bad this past week too.
The worst part for me is the affect it's having on my asthma.
I've upped my steroids but I'm still taking ventolin several times a day. This is unusual for me as it's usually very well-controlled.
On Friday I was actually really frightened at how hard it was too breathe, I found myself concentrating so much on just getting air in and out. Scary.

NotAHouse · 19/06/2022 07:49

Chiming in to say same here!

Cappucinoextrachocolate · 19/06/2022 08:01

The thing that seems to help DS the most is a HEPA air purifier, a couple of hours in his room before bedtime and on and off throughout the day in the living room and the difference is noticeable.

EpicMugs · 17/06/2022 19:47

It's the Getting On My Fucking Nerves variant.

It can sod off.

I'm grumpier than normal because of this hayfever, I just want to punch people in between sneezing 😁

Cleopatra2022 · 19/06/2022 08:07

It’s tree pollen. I don’t usually get hayfever and an allergy test last year said I’m not allergic to pollen. But this year I’m sneezing like mad whenever I go outside.

BobbinHood · 19/06/2022 08:11

Stopdropnroll · 17/06/2022 20:18

You need fexofenadine, you can buy it over the counter now in supermarkets etc the brand is Allevia. Best price I've found is sainsburys 30 tabs for £6.50

Yes this is so much better than the other over the counter options for me. I can tell the pollen is worse than usual as it’s affecting DH & DD who don’t usually get hayfever, but I’ve been on fexofenadine for a month and mine feels manageable.

RelativePitch · 19/06/2022 08:13

First year ever my DSs have had hay-fever (10 and 12) both on half a cetirizine tablet twice a day. The Ddog started scratching very badly two weeks ago and gnawing her paw pads raw. This has never happened before. Piriton didn't work, she's had to be moved onto Apoquel. It's a very, very bad year.

FrankGrillosFloof · 19/06/2022 14:34

Seconding the suggestions of fexofenadine and buying an air purifier - I bought one for other reasons but really noticed the impact on my hayfever immediately.

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 19/06/2022 16:20

Me too! I have what I would class as very mild hayfever most years, really itchy nose cured by a single tablet but for the past week omg it has been horrible. I am also taking double dose of tablets and having to use sudafed nose spray otherwise my sinuses are just permanently blocked. Have to wear sunglasses constantly as my eyes are itchy and running like mad. Doesn't help that I live in an area full for forests and fields. Am going mad with it.

QuebecBagnet · 19/06/2022 16:55

Do you need an air purifier in every room? Can someone please link to one they’d recommend?

i got some of those recommended tablets today but they were sold out in three chemists! Got some in Boots eventually, though the woman there said they don’t work for her at all.

how long does hay fever last for? All summer? Had it three weeks now, much worse the last few days.

We have 2 Homedics one, a bigger one for the living room/dining room and a small one for DS' bedroom - sorry I can't do links. They are not on all the time but the bedroom one is on all night when the window is open. It works for him, I noticed that in the mornings when it is on his breathing is much better and he is not bunged up, or not so much. From what I heard there are other good brands, they need to be HEPA though.

I don't know if they work for everyone but they do for DS.

QuebecBagnet · 19/06/2022 17:39

Thanks, I’ve ordered a small Homedic one.

QuebecBagnet · 19/06/2022 20:02

How long does the fexofendaine take to work, days? I took one 4 hours ago and still no better. I genuinely have never been in so much pain , sore throat is my worst symptom. I’m taking pain killers, strepsils, difflam throat spray and nothing is working. My blocked nose is also awful. I don’t know what to do with myself.

just took a covid test as feel so ill and still negative

CharSiu · 19/06/2022 20:14

I have had hay fever for the first time in my life, started when I walked round my favourite local lake the trees had a lot of white fluff drifting off them and it seems to be that causing my issues as happened again when I was near some near the local canal.

familyissues12345 · 19/06/2022 22:04

Hayfever is always rubbish, but this year really feel the pits Sad. My eyelids are so sore and puffy as my eyes have been streaming for days. Starting a new job tomorrow too - going to be a great look! Confused

Yah, thing I didn't mention is that it doesn't work for everyone for some reason. It kills my hay-fever but doesn't help my mum at all. I'd speak to your gp about it as there's something else my mum got prescribed in the end.
