What the f*** do the RMT think they are playing at.....

So, the RMT are striking for a pay increase....during GCSE's. The poor kids who use the train to get to school are going to be left up the creek without a paddle, but no, a £44k average salary is not enough and they have decided to hold the country to ransom for more money.

There are 4 (possibly more) GCSE's being held next week and probably many a-levels too, schools are already warning that if pupils are late the exams will have to start regardless.

They cancelled trains that got kids to school during the pandemic, they are paid above average.

I would actually like to see the RMT fail, and be called out, on this one, AIBU? They are a disgrace.

I am a union supporter generally, but this is greedy in the extreme and smacks of extortion to line their members pockets at the expense of the general public. Higher wages = higher fares.

But Amazon workers can’t strike for better pay and conditions. Because the company holds all the power and the staff are expendable, so they will just bring other agency staff in if they did, even if they were in a union to start with, weren’t afraid to vote to the quite demanding level needed to take action, and could afford not to be paid from their minimum wage or close to jobs while they did.

You don’t realise your take on this is actually suggesting that all staff should be treated like amazon workers…and when it hits you or whoever is in employed in your household it will be far too late to moan about it… or when there’s a serious safety breach and one of your family is involved…

But you can bet your bottom dollar the shareholders and the ceos on multi 6 figure salaries won’t be affected.

Funny you should say that @RJnomore1, the government actually plans to remove the caps on City boss salaries. www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/train-strikes-uk-bankers-pay-b2105688.html%3famp

The Tory government don't give a shit about low and medium earners. Nor do they give a shit about their children. They only care about themselves and their wealthy donors.🤷‍♀️

I think she's talking about the English people's strangely damaging relationship with Toryism under PM Johnson @fuming12.

I could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time.😆

The railways been modernising for years. This has largely gone unopposed. What is being opposed is the way that Network Rail want to cut maintenance. That is how Hatfield, Potters Bar and Grayrigg happened.

You can reduce staff numbers without using compulsory redundancies. There's an entire generation coming up for retirement for a start.

It used to be three man teams in maintenance years ago, but down to two mostly now. Working on bare minimum. Completely wrong.

And this is the stuff Jo public doesn't know about! I only know about the ins and out of it over the years because of DH.

Workers rights to fair pay and conditions vs Boris Johnson's corrup and spendthrift lying destructive government. Time to decide which side you're on.Victory to the RMT.

🚨New poll🚨

A majority of UK adults say that the rail strikes this week are 'justified'.

Justified - 58%
Unjustified - 34%

I suppose it depends which poll you are liking at

More people oppose the rail strikes than support them, a new poll revealed on Tuesday.

The YouGov survey showed less than four in ten adults in the country
(37%) are supportive of the rail transport workers’ walk-outs this week.

A higher proportion (45%) oppose them

MarshaBradyo · 21/06/2022 20:11

Looking..

DuncinToffee · 21/06/2022 20:27

Liking probably applies as well Smile

The question is slightly different.

Kidsaretryingtodestroyme · 21/06/2022 21:00

Working people, the people who pay the taxes have had enough of this government. It’s been 12 long years. They pick our pockets to give to their mates and only listen to those who don’t need to work such as pensioners and land owners. Workers are expected to just work harder with less rights to keep Tory’s and their donors in the lap of luxury. Enough.

The Tory’s have fucked up by picking this fight. I see it spreading until we join the Customs Union/Single Market so Sterling climbs and the economy is boosted.

Ginajo · 21/06/2022 21:31

The people who support the strikes probably didn't take two and a half hours to get home from work when their journey normally takes half an hour.

The fact the question is different is key. There's a difference between understanding why and actively supporting. No one likes a strike - you're not meant to.

Either that, or they stick to their morals even when inconvenient.

Vikinga · 21/06/2022 22:20

You know that there are more than train drives who work for network rail? Christ

As Network Rail don't have any trains clearly not.

SaladExerciseRepeat · 22/06/2022 07:50

No trains on this morning to get DC there in time so another massive round trip to get child to school for GCSEs.

I’m OK with it now. I’m happy to do this all week so long as I know their blackmail doesn’t work.

There is no reason why this had to be done this week. They’ve totally screwed kids over and turned this week into a shit show for them.

DuncinToffee · 22/06/2022 09:24

Shame then that Schapps decided not to meet with RMT and negotiate. Who knows, the strike could have been avoided.

Lol, the irony is that if schnapps made this a MN post in AIBU there would be a chorus of ‘well have you actually talked to them?’

Thenamewillchangethefacewillnot · 22/06/2022 10:03

Mr Schapps has a short memory. A very short memory.

We don’t. We have not forgotten that man’s comments.

We lost friends and colleagues. And someone in our care. Has he forgotten that??

He has no business still being in the position he is in. He does not seem to care about the railway. The workers or those who travel on it.

We have long memories Mr Schapps. You can remember what you like but just try to remember the importance of why we need boots on the ground.

BigWoollyJumpers · 22/06/2022 12:08

I honestly don't understand the rhetoric of lack of rights and poor minimum wage in the UK. A quick google will disavow anyone of this mindset. In both the EU, and the world, the UK has very good workers rights, and a very high minimum wage, both in real terms, and relatively to the average wage.

I am sure this was sarcasm....

Today’s Yougov poll puts the blame firmly on the rail companies and the Government, I see.

Mr. Schnapps needs to wake his ideas up!

Tanith · 22/06/2022 13:14

Schapps, I mean! Blush

notimagain · 22/06/2022 13:27

You mean Shapps..

The Minister with responsibility for Transport, which includes aviation, who chose (and possibly still does) to have his own private aircraft registered on the US registry rather with the UK Civil Aviation Authority registry for reasons various..

Remember do as I say, not as I do...
