Screeching kids in bar

HandbagsnGladrags · 16/06/2022 07:36

We are on holiday at a 5 star well known luxury brand of hotels. No kids with us. Hotel is known for being child friendly - no problem, there are adult only areas. Except on an evening where there is only one bar. Last night (and most nights) there were around 10 kids running around the bar, chasing each other, running through people's tables, almost knocking waitresses over. AIBU to think it's not acceptable to sit getting pissed while your kids bother other guests?

Yes I know we could have gone to an adults only hotel, but just because we didn't, it doesn't mean we should have to put up with unruly kids.

We've all seen it many times and it seems to be getting worse, year on year.

I really wish that hotel/bar/restaurant /venue managers would actively start to clamp down on this.

Bars are bars , not soft play crèches.

They are reluctant to do so for fear of arguments people posting on Facebook, Twitter etc

That is truly disgusting. They would not do this back home .

Yep, sadly they probably would.

I've seen worse in the uk. Portable potty on floor in a cafe area of a trampoline park.

Child sat on potty trying to push a poo out whilst being given food to eat.

I said something and the mother tomd me it couldnt be helped as the child was constipated.

My friend was in a cafe when someone changed their baby's dirty nappy on the table.🤮🤮💩

HandbagsnGladrags · 16/06/2022 13:23

It's rank. My puppy behaves better than that.

Unfortunate side effect to 'The customer is always right' as any customer cannot be unreasonable or wrong ever, this is par for the course.
And as staff that tries to intervene in situations like this, you may as well try to knit fog tbh because at best you're ignored and at worst you've got a scene to deal with as they kick off and make sure everyone else is aware of how unhappy they are about being asked to behave in a way that considers others, and then you have other customers complaining about said scene.

People can be incredibly entitled around their 'rights' to enjoy a leisure experience, no matter how that affects everyone else also trying to do the same around them, and service staff are never supposed to say no, and are considered rude, power hungry, jobsworths and giving bad customer service if they try - many threads on here where that school of thought is prevalent. It's a school of thought that's expected and encouraged so stuff like this is bound to happen 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank Christ for adults only breakfast restaurant and adults only pool

Just be grateful if they enforce this; I returned last night from a lovely Rhodes hotel where they didn't, and got sick to death of the chasing, screeching and whole-body dives at whatever

Needless to say most of their parents were glued to phones, and while kids will be kids you'd hope there'd be even the smallest of efforts to keep them in check

Kabura · 16/06/2022 14:12

I hope your holiday went well other 🦕hand that I experienced this when I was on a cruise with my husband we were sitting when kids came running past playing tag! Yanbu.

Kabura · 16/06/2022 14:13

Sorry about that for som reason my keyboard typed that at the top I still don't get some of this

minipie · 16/06/2022 14:17

Please do mention this to the hotel OP.

And consider putting it on Tripadvisor too especially if the hotel don’t do anything about it.

If everyone stays quiet and doesn’t complain that just fuels the (hopefully) minority who think this is fine “because nobody’s complaining”

HandbagsnGladrags · 16/06/2022 12:29

Well I've seen it all now. Sat having lunch in restaurant. Parent whips out a portable potty for his kid to piss in. In the middle of the fucking restaurant.

An escalation with every update.

maddiemookins16mum · 16/06/2022 12:59

Oh, they absolutely would. I've been in a local café when a mummy pulled out a potty for her darling child to use, right in the middle of the floor. Surrounded by waiting staff trying to serve and people eating/drinking.

My flabber was well and truly gasted.

HandbagsnGladrags · 16/06/2022 15:15

Will definitely write a TA review. Thankfully they strictly enforce the adults only areas. There'd be words had if they didn't - we paid a lot of money for this holiday.

Which brand is it? I need to know where not to book.

Ikos. It's amazing in every other way though. Nothing is too much trouble.

minipie · 16/06/2022 17:29

Oh gosh Ikos costs an absolute arm and leg! I’d be deeply pissed off OP.

Definitely feed back to the hotel OP - it really wouldn’t be too difficult for them to create an adults only bar, and they won’t want to alienate their non family guests.

Not sure what they can do about the porta potty type behaviour … you wouldn’t think they’d need a “No potties in the restaurant” rule would you??

HandbagsnGladrags · 16/06/2022 17:36

@minipie it does indeed!! Think it's definitely a case of the richer you are, the more entitled your kids are. In some cases.

We're not rich by any means, we're here to celebrate a special birthday. And there are some lovely people here. But then again there are also some utter twats. Hey ho, the minibar is stocked for balcony drinks.

rainbowmilk · 16/06/2022 17:44

The only way I'd ever do one of these holidays is on an adults-only island resort i.e. no children allowed in any part of it. I did that holiday once and it was heaven.

rainbowmilk · 16/06/2022 17:44

Sorry OP - that's both unhelpful and rubbing it in! YANBU. I'd be absolutely foaming.

Nah it's fine. I'm still glad I booked it, the food, drink and service is out of this world. The hotel just need to do something about the little shits.

stratforduponavon · 16/06/2022 18:29

I am in a 5 star hotel abroad now and it’s bloody annoying. Parents eating and letting their kids wander around making a nuisance of themselves and at night it’s totally unacceptable. There are hot drinks and people trying to get to the buffet.

PARENTS - LOOK AFTER YOUR KIDS! ITS NOT FOR OTHERS TO DO. SELFISH TWATS!

stratforduponavon · 16/06/2022 18:36

And when coffee gets tipped on their heads they would be the first to point the finger of blame.

QuidditchThroughtheAges · 16/06/2022 18:42

@HandbagsnGladrags that's rank

Preeeettyprettygood · 16/06/2022 19:53

The thought of being on holiday let alone a 5* I'd be trying to make the most of it, grab another drink and not on MN moaning.

I understand but make the most of what seems for the most part a lovely time. She says whilst sat in the garden preparing myself to put DS to bed dreaming of having great food and drink 😂
