To suggest more variety is needed (father's day cards)

My dad is a bit shit. He's remarried and his wife ensures they spend most of their time with her children & grandchildren. He lives 35 miles from me but I haven't seen him since last November and before that it was the previous Xmas. He misses my kids' birthdays, never calls (I used to call him but gave up after a while). I love him but he has no presence in my life.

I'm trying to find the right Father's Day card to send him and they all say things like 'To my amazing Dad' or 'thanks for everything you do for me'...AIBU to suggest that they should make a few that say something along the lines of 'You're a bit shit really but I still love you'.

I have a good dad and but I there is too much sentimental bollocks. Also expand the range of activities dads take part in, please. It's very narrow.

Aw I always see these cards pop up on my social media and can't remember what they are called... they are almost like memes. Have lots that take the piss and are a bit sarcastic... ugh wish I could remember the name!

How about sending an empty, sealed envelope.

Or is that too passive aggressive.

🤣🤣

Hankunamatata · 17/06/2022 09:27

He doesnt even remember your families birthdays. I wouldn't bother with a card, just text happy fathers day

Loving this thread - I once found one meant for a step dad that said ‘You’re almost like a real Dad’ …was so tempted to send that to bio dad 😁

I like this idea.

My dad was shit and is now dead. Much easier!

Why are you bothering? Serious question. Just don’t.

“He's remarried and his wife ensures they spend most of their time with her children & grandchildren“

I want to say though, I’m not liking the vibe of thar statement. It’s irrelevant, and tbf the rest of your post is clear that he’s not interested and doesn’t blame her. But… just including it seems to apportion a little blame to her. And that’s not fair. These are his choices.

Fairislefandango · 17/06/2022 10:42

Just send a card with a nice picture on the front (not a father's day card) and write your own father's day message inside.

JLwac · 17/06/2022 16:00

I wouldn't bother.

EternalPoinsettia · 17/06/2022 16:03

I've seen some passive aggressive ones this year for the first time ever. I was very tempted but in the end went generic, as I always do

dottypotter · 17/06/2022 16:17

I wouldn't bother
You say he dosent bother with you so why are you.
