It's red with white flowers? I'll probably go for white heels and a nude clutch bag, just super stressed white is off limits! Thoughts please ladies...

My Granny would say blood and bandages - she wouldnt have red and while flowers in the same room.

Looks lovely - enjoy

I did think blood and bandages too!

It's a lovely dress OP and more importantly you feel good in it. Wear the dress and have a bloody good time.

Rosehugger · 15/06/2022 16:31

It's fine. It's also ok to wear a dress or outfit which is white, as long as it isn't a bridal gown.

NotaMary · 15/06/2022 16:39

Red and white flowers mixed together are the issue. I don’t think the superstition spills over into fabric. And it is a superstition so I would definitely ignore it. The dress is lovely and perfect for a wedding.

AryaStarkWolf · 15/06/2022 16:40

That's cute, i like it

Red & white are the colours for death in a church I think
Eh? Been a churchgoer all my life, with multiple generations of clergy. Never heard anyone say red and white are associated with death.

Dress is very nice and totally fine for a wedding.

I think the red and white flowers is an old hospital thing. My mum ,who was a nurse , used to say they would never have mixed red and white flowers on the ward. Since you don’t get flowers in hospitals any more it’s all a bit irrelevant.

viques · 15/06/2022 16:44

Ps it’s a really pretty dress, and what’s more you will be able to wear it after the wedding without people thinking it looks like a wedding outfit!

Blood and bandages comes from barber surgeons. Back in the day they cut hair, extracted teeth and did minor surgery and blood letting, there was a lot of blood apparently . barber poles are red and white to represent the blood and bandages

Me too, and that's why I mentioned it

I don't really wear dresses so I'd say that's dressy enough for a wedding. Lots if mumsnetters seem to wear dresses day to day so I can see why it's getting the "not dressy enough" for a wedding as it probably isn't if you wear them every day.

If I wore it someone would say "bloody hell you are dressed up!"

I'm also not religious so the red and white in a church thing wouldn't even cross my radar.

The only comment I'd have on it as it's solely red and white is to check the Bridesmaids are not wearing red. I'd worry it fitted too much into the aesthetic of the bridal party and that I was somehow trying to latch onto their gang (but I'm a classic overthinker and always find out the bridesmaid colours to specifically avoid).

Also blue and green should not be seen except upon the queen

My gran used to say "red and green should not be see except upon an Irish Queen" funny how these sayings stay with you.

ClinicallyProven · 15/06/2022 17:36

I think it's fine, definitely not too white, although some would say you shouldn't wear red to a wedding...

I had a posy of red grand prix and white iceberg roses at our wedding.

My florist pulled me aside and mentioned the blood and bandages thing when I wanted red flowers for me and white for bridesmaids. As it happened the wedding never took place, so it didn’t matter (I would’ve had them regardless).

I had a red and white wedding bouquet. Who makes this stuff up? 😁

FKATondelayo · 15/06/2022 19:15

It's a lovely dress and not too casual. It's the styling and pose of the model that makes it seem that way.

Dahlly · 15/06/2022 19:35

Too casual and way too short for a wedding.

Unless you are a young, super gorgeous thing in your 20s- then it’s a big no!

anon1968 · 15/06/2022 19:41

Lovely dress. Could easily be dressed up with a jacket or shawl if needed. I’d be inclined to go for nude shoes though.

It's not too causal or short - the model is just really tall and slim so will look completely different in it.

I've seen shorter people wear lovely dresses that wouldn't suit me at all because of my height. this is one of them.

And if the OP is tall? ….then it’s too short and not appropriate for a wedding

wheresmyshoe · 15/06/2022 19:51

Providing they're not Italian you'll be grand. Red and white signify death. Usually this is more flowers than frocks but you wouldn't wear red and white to an Italian wedding.

Op has already said she isn't tall

lyns86x · 15/06/2022 15:27

Thanks all.

I never said it was white, even the title says red and white.. some of you ladies on here do make me chuckle.

I really like it on me so am definitely going to wear it!! Xx

Well I guess people presumed it was the degree of whiteness in the dress that you were questioning. As I have never heard it wasn’t the done thing to wear red to a wedding, well not before this dress.

Nothing wrong with the colour as far as I can tell, but I do think it is very casual for a wedding, I’d feel out of place unless it was a barefoot beach wedding or something.

Why would she lie?

@lyns86x

It's a lovely dress but I'd go for nude shoes if your having a nude bag perhaps ?

Also I think mango need to have a word with their models, she has a face that could sour milk 🤣
