Body weight scale are misleading

yesnosometimes · 13/06/2022 18:11

My body transformed from a dress size 16 to 10, height is 159cm
My starting/current measurements(cm) were:
bust 100 now 90
waist 95 now 70
hip 107 now 98
shoe size went from 5 to 4

But on scale i lost 13kg. My start weight was 90kg and now 77kg, and still classified obese.

My worry is that medical professionals make decisions on scales. Is there anyone else who can explain, body weight and scales.

OP posts:
Zagan · 13/06/2022 19:49

I had no idea shoe size could change.

forgotoldusername · 13/06/2022 19:49

at 77kg I think you are indeed obese. I'm 162cm so taller than you, 58kg and a size 8. You're 20kg bigger than me and you think you're a size 10? Sorry I don't believe it

OlympicProcrastinator · 13/06/2022 19:56

You are 5ft 2 and over twelve stone with a 70 inch waist? Have I got that right?
That is not a size 10. And even as a body builder you’d be unlikely to be a 10 or a healthy BMI at that weight. It’s great that you’ve lost weight but something isn’t right here.

Gensola · 13/06/2022 19:58

@OlympicProcrastinator i think it’s 70cm waist! My waist is 67cm and I am a size 8 - it’s the weight that doesn’t make sense here not the measurements 😀

Dutchesss · 13/06/2022 20:01

I'm 160cm, 56kg and a size 10.
77kg is heavy for 159cm, a BMI calculator is usually a very good tool for women as we don't hold dense muscle.

MargosKaftan · 13/06/2022 20:06

Something isn't right here. That's quite a lot to weigh and be wearing a size 10. As others have asked, are you very muscular?

Can you try another set of scales?

ThatsGoingToHurt · 13/06/2022 20:07

I’m the same height as you and slightly heavier and can squeeze into a 14. Pre-DC I was 60kg.

jimboandthejetset · 13/06/2022 20:07

I'm slightly taller (164cm) and 11kg lighter than you. I'm a large size 10. Something in your measurements is definitely not right! How many sets of scales have you tried?

OlympicProcrastinator · 13/06/2022 20:17

@Gensola

whoops! 😂

100Stickers · 13/06/2022 20:33

I'm 5'3" and 66kg, I'm usually a size 12 to 14. Maybe use the scales in a pharmacy to check 77kg is accurate. The ones in boots measure your height and bmi etc

Dishwashersaurous · 13/06/2022 20:39

Your weight and dress size don't marry up.at all.

So.either your scales are massively wrong and adding about 14kg, or you are definitely not a size 10.

That height and 63kg is a solid size 12

Emilizz34 · 14/06/2022 00:23

I think that your scales must be broken . There’s no way you could be 77kg with those body measurements and wearing a size 10 .

TheMarzipanDildo · 14/06/2022 00:39

hihellohihello · 13/06/2022 18:43

Was adviced to get to about 63kg for surgery

Well, I expect that would be perfectly possible. Whilst your weight loss is fantastic I don't think your measurements sound so minuscule it would be unhealthy to lose a bit more to satisfy the surgery requirements.

Other than that could get a dexa body scan to find out your actual body composition but for the sake of a few kg I think I would probably just lose that last bit of weight.

I disagree. With OPs current very healthy measurements (about 35-28-38 in inches) I don’t think it would be advisable at all to try and lose an additional 14kg without buying new scales and talking to her doctor first.

I have almost identical measurements to OP, but I’m an inch smaller and weigh 50kg.

SkankingWombat · 14/06/2022 01:33

It is worth putting yourself on the 50p-a-go scales at the gym next time you're there. I agree with PPs that either you are totally useless with a tape measure (unlikely, plus doesn't answer the dress size bit), or your scales are knackered. Just to add my figures to the pool, I am 169cm, about 70kg, and pretty muscly thanks to my job. However, the muscle is covered with a bit of insulation these days, and I am at the larger end of a size 12. 10 years ago I was ~65kg and had more muscle than now (from working more days and longer hours), but was still only a smaller size 12 or a large 10 depending on the brand

AgentJohnson · 14/06/2022 01:50

Dress sizes are completely arbitrary, so much so that they call it vanity sizing because they don’t correlate to anything other than the vanity of the consumer. It would be weird to measure your weight by anything other than scales.

lljkk · 14/06/2022 02:19

You're 5'3"
35-28-38
77 kg ...

HOW?? A female body simply can't carry ~16 kg extra of muscle in that volume, sorry, it's not physiologically possible.
57 kg I would have believed.

A size 10 fits the measurements OP provided really well.

PremiumPeaches · 14/06/2022 09:19

Kindly, you've definitely mis-measured something here. I'm the same height as you and I'm a former high-performance athlete so I have high muscle mass. Looking through my weight/measurements, which are taken every week, the closest my measurements have been to yours listed are:
Bust: 98
Waist: 75
Hip: 94.5
At that point, I weighed 64kg. There's simply no way you weigh 13kg more than that - you cannot physically have a high enough muscle mass in that volume of space. Are you measuring yourself? If so, it won't be remotely accurate because you'll have to be moving your body in order to measure and changing the shape of what you're measuring - and try some new scales?

Yes a size 10 fits those measurements but a 77kg body wouldn’t fit into it.
I have similiar measurements and weigh 64kg with height 165cm .

SVRT19674 · 14/06/2022 09:24

Hmm I´m 5.8 74KG and a size 14, how can you be 77Kg and a size 10? I am slightly confused, sorry if you have already answered this.

PurpleDaisies · 14/06/2022 09:25

I don’t agree with this at all. I do agree that something is wrong, most likely the scales if the op is buying and fitting size 10 clothes.

MsTSwift · 14/06/2022 09:28

I was 76kg am 5 ft 6 was a solid size 14 got down to 62kg even then only a size 10 on top still a 12 for trousers 🙄

vivainsomnia · 14/06/2022 09:28

I'm the same height as you, weight 54 kilos, so more than 20 less than you and just about fit in size 10 clothes, so something is quite odd.

I do have low muscle mass despite exercising including weights, it's just my structure, but still I'm amazed you are a size 10 too.

adlitem · 14/06/2022 09:29

I am same height and very similar measurements and size. I weigh 65kg. I think you need to check both your measurements and scales, as that doesn't add up to me.

MsTSwift · 14/06/2022 09:32

Ha premiumpeaches just measured myself out of interest- we are pretty much twins 😁
