Covid Cert for Portugal

Zevb · 13/06/2022 13:09

Hi all,
can anyone help me out. We are due to go to Portugal in July, my daughter got covid in March but not due booster till September. I registered her on the system from an antigen test as at the time they had stopped doing the pcr tests. I can't get her a recovery cert as they said she needed a pcr test to get that, even though they were not sending people for pcr's at the time. Has anyone been to Portugal recently and could you tell me are they asking for covid certs? We are flying from Ireland.

You could book and pay for a pre departure test instead

dementedpixie · 13/06/2022 13:22

Also what age is your dd?

Zevb · 13/06/2022 13:24

She is 14.

Are they giving boosters to that age group in Ireland as they aren't in the rest of the UK

Zevb · 13/06/2022 13:28

Yes they are giving boosters to this age group.

How long was it since her 2nd vaccine?
If its within 270 days of the holiday then she just needs proof of the 2 vaccines she's had.

Just a little geography lesson - Ireland is not in the UK. Totally independent country.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 13/06/2022 13:33

Op - details of requirements here reopen.europa.eu/en/map/PRT/7001

Oops, my bad
Regardless her dd doesn't need a booster if her 2nd vaccine within 270 days of the holiday

dementedpixie · 13/06/2022 13:41

Also that link says the primary vaccine course is sufficient for under 18s so no booster needed

Firstinlastout · 13/06/2022 13:47

My son (16)has just returned from Portugal after going with his girlfriend and her family ,they didn't check either of their paperwork whatsoever.

Houseplantmad · 13/06/2022 13:52

We've just been and has to show proof of vaccinations both ways. That was flying with TAP.

Oceanus · 13/06/2022 14:12

I've translated this from an official Portuguese website (www.visitportugal.com/pt-pt/content/covid-19-medidas-implementadas-em-portugal):

Compulsory presentation of:

  • COVID Digital Certificate from the EU for vaccines (all vaccines taken as per the vaccines scheme with or without a reinforcement one)
  • OR UE Digital COVID Certificate for test or recovery;
  • OR Vacinnation Certificate (all vaccines taken as per the vaccines scheme with or without a reinforcement one) OR Certificate for Recovery issued by a non-EU country (as long as that country reciprocates)
  • OR RT-PCR Test negative (or similar NAAT test) - up to 72h before boarding
  • OR Fast Antigen Test Laboratory negative (it can't be taken at home) - up to 24h before boarding (in agreement with the EU list which includes those third-party countries and that includes the UK as well).
Children under 12 don't need a certificate or test.

The Passenger Locator Form no longer has to be filled in nor presented for boarding.

Oceanus · 13/06/2022 14:15

Sb said they didn't check the papers: by law 25% of all passengers in a particular flight, will be chosen randomly by the Portuguese Border Agency. So only some will have to present their papers.

Sleepyteach · 13/06/2022 14:18

All the info is here: www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/portugal/entry-requirements

it just depends when she had her second dose. Whilst there are a lot of stories of documents not being checked (mine included - twice this year) they are checking a percentage of arrivals - around 10% I think I read, and you really don’t want to be in that 10%!!

Sleepyteach · 13/06/2022 14:20

My mistake - 25% as another poster said

OP We've just come back from Portugal. DD is 14 but we're in the UK so she didn't need a booster.

We flew into Faro on Ryanair and I actually asked the guy at passport control if he wanted to see the Covid documentation as it was a real hassle trying to get DDs organised. He just said no and waved us through. Obviously there is no guarantee that you won't be asked but we weren't and it wasn't a particularly busy time of day.

Zevb · 13/06/2022 14:38

Thank you all for your help, I think I'll get an antigen test before we fly just to be on the safe side. Fingers crossed they might follow suit like Spain and Italy....

Where you're from is irrelevant. It is the rules of the country you are going to that matter. I know there were a lot of annoyed british people before vaccines were available in the UK for children. They discovered that EU countries didn't make an exception just because the UK wasn't in line with the EU in terms of who they were vaccinating.

Oceanus · 13/06/2022 15:58

I agree that an antigen test is the wisest route to go too. Make sure you do it in a place where you'll get a legal piece of paper. The ones you take at home are not valid (thought I should stress that!).
For coming back I suggest you try a regular pharmacy for an Antigen test if you need it or google Unilabs (they're a huge chain of labs so there's always one not too far away) if you need a PCR test for some reason.
Enjoy your holidays!

Oceanus · 13/06/2022 16:09

I forgot to add there's been talks in the news about loosening up restrictions so these rules. So you might not actually need an Antigen test by the time July comes round but ask again here a week-ish before and I'll check.
Tbh I wouldn't worry too much!

Dumpedagainfml · 13/06/2022 16:53

Currently in portugal
they never checked my covid passport once
no one wearing masks anywhere

Dumpedagainfml · 13/06/2022 16:54

I am with five other woman - all fly from parts of the uk none of us got asked for covid passport

(all fully vacinanted and had the passport to hand)

Mediacrity · 13/06/2022 17:03

Me and my 15 year old flew from Dublin to faro last month. No one asked for any proof of vaccination or antigen test.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 13/06/2022 17:12

I flew from Stansted into Faro last month with Ryanair....me and partner were not asked for anything to do with Covid at all...the only thing was we were asked to put masks on as we boarded.
