Is that a ridiculous amount for a household of 4 adults and 2 children? We need to cut our monthly spending.

I spend £600 on me and my son. If you can’t afford it then you can cut down but if you can there are no rules

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 07/12/2022 21:47

I'm not shocked at that. we spend around £130-150pw on supermarket groceries - not just food - for two adults, two teens and two cats. And while I think we eat very well, that's still keeping half an eye on the budget. I used to be able to have things like lamb chops and salmon fillets as a weekly staple for that budget, whereas nowadays they're an occasional treat and I am doing more mince or pasta/rice based meals.

We are 4 adults and spend around £320 a month. No alcohol is bought.

Appleblum · 07/12/2022 22:15

Nope. It's on the low to reasonable side.

yoyo1234 · 07/12/2022 22:29

120-150 ish per week her (probably higher end of the range). 2 adults 2 children.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/12/2022 22:37

Not wildly unreasonable. I’d think £100-£150 per person per month isn’t unusual.

paintitallover · 07/12/2022 23:22

I'd shop less at Sainsbury

PollyPicket2 · 07/12/2022 23:28

Not unreasonable, unless you can't afford it. If you're enjoying the food, why worry?

mac1974 · 08/12/2022 13:44

No. We are around £600 for 2 adults and 2 children however I'm a childminder so feed other children too in varying numbers

concernedalot · 08/12/2022 14:27

I was spending around 800 for 2 adults and a needy cat. That did include a couple of bottles of £5-6 wine per week also though. I've managed to shave £150 off my monthly bill by switching from Morrisons (in shop) to Tesco and doing an online click and collect order and buying the cheapest things. I'm still needing to cut back more but I might have baked potatoes a couple of nights a week to make meals stretch further.

Thehonestbadger · 08/12/2022 15:00

Nah we spend about that for 2 adults and 2 toddlers but the toddlers are both in nappies still so those + wipes are pricey (eldest has allergies and sensitive skin so we frequently have to have him in pampers which are £££££

Goldenbear · 08/12/2022 15:10

Tbh we spend that on family of 4 so two adults but teen is adult size and inhales food so probably like having 4 adults and one younger child.

Swampthing55 · 08/12/2022 15:12

We spend 200 a week for two.of us plus the butcher is probably an other 50.00 do it seems very economical to me.
