To think Edward and Sophie Wessex should be the next King and Queen consort?

I think they’re lovely. So down to earth (for royals) and in touch with what the people of this country need. I read they went to a food bank to help out over lockdown.
Edward is a great representative for his mother and when I saw the interview he did which mentioned Harry and Meghan he was such a gentleman and said all the right things.

I think they’re so much more charismatic than Charles and Camilla (and younger too). Their children seem so polite and well - mannered. Well, the son we haven’t seen much of. But Lady Louise seems to have her head screwed on.

I know it’ll never happen, but I think it would be amazing if it did.

Princess Anne was in it. Just checked. It was excruciating and a PR disaster.

Yes, Anne, Fergie, Andrew and Edward were the four team captains and the teams were made up of various celebrities.

Costacoffeeplease · 11/06/2022 19:17

I’m guessing you’re quite a bit younger than me op 🤣

Spudina · 11/06/2022 19:20

YABU. He got into Cambridge despite only getting a C and 2Ds, depriving someone who’d actually earn’t a place there, and got a not very impressive 2.2 despite years of private education. He then managed a whole month and a half as a Marine before quitting, wasting everyone’s time, money and effort. Does he look like a Marine FFS. He’s an idiot, like they all are.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/06/2022 19:21

are you going to lock charles and camilla in the tower?
let alone William?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/06/2022 19:22

he is not an idiot - in comparison
and Sophie seems great

Sortilege · 11/06/2022 19:24

Why does being younger matter?

Anyway, it’s no wonder the rest of the world is confused when Brits come out with this “let’s have X next” stuff.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/06/2022 19:26

indeed Ann is great

i know, lets just accept the status quo

Henerlo · 11/06/2022 20:03

Isn't Ann the queen's sister?

Antarcticant · 11/06/2022 20:05

Henerlo · 11/06/2022 20:03

Isn't Ann the queen's sister?

No, she is the Queen's daughter - between Charles and Andrew in age.

The Queen's sister was Margaret - she died in 2002.

OvOvO · 11/06/2022 20:09

YABU
Charles has been the King in Waiting his entire life and deserves his spot in the sun as Monarch. Do your research about how the Monarchy and succession works.

Graphista · 11/06/2022 20:21

Lovely ha! They have done/rumoured to have done some pretty awful things!

Let's just say Andrew and Edward have similar outlooks in certain areas apparently

LaMarschallin · 11/06/2022 20:31

Yes, it was. Andrew and Fergie made particular tits of themselves on it, as I recall.

Meatloaf was especially pleased that Fergie abbreviated his name and kept yelling "Come on, Meeeeeaty!".

So many people seem to think that everything is a reality show like the RF is "The Apprenprince" or something.

Antarcticant · 11/06/2022 20:40

'The Apprenprince' would be a great way to refer to Charles Grin

Henerlo · 11/06/2022 20:46

I really hope someone makes The Apprenprince. Feargie ftw!

Thanks @Antarcticant

PurpleButterflyWings · 11/06/2022 20:48

Absolutely not.

Lots of people go into the Marines, go through the whole training then decide it's not for them. I've always thought it took great courage to say early on that it wasn't for him, he must have dreaded telling his father and the odium he would get from snide commentators from the comfort and safety of their desks.
Both Edward and Sophie made mistakes, who hasn't, but they seem to have taken on their roles and have raised two seemingly well adjusted children. With the defection of Harry and the exclusion of ANdrew they will probably be more prominent that originally planned.

Indeed. My brother was in the training troop directly after Edward at Lympstone and he told me that the stories were that Edward was grossly unfit and should've been turfed out after his first week - they only kept him because of (cough) 'expternal' pressure.

Popsicle33 · 11/06/2022 21:11

Don't be so bloody silly! Firstly you know bugger all about any of them really and secondly, the constitution can never be changed. Please find something useful to think about! 😂

Popsicle33 · 11/06/2022 21:14

Also, I think there would be a fight over who was to be Queen! 😂

TheKeatingFive · 11/06/2022 21:19

It makes me laugh when people who claim to be pro monarchy don't actually know how it works.

The whole point is that you get the heir. Ordained by god, remember. Absolutely no swapping, messing around or subbing in the 'lovely' one. Choice is not part of the deal.

ChangedMyNamrButStillMe · 11/06/2022 21:22

I think if we’re going to sod off the line of inheritance we should start over entirely and get someone properly worthy. The blandest out of a family of beige wavers, smilers and hand shakers makes no difference to anyone. Either get someone who has proven themselves to be a thoroughly decent person throughout their life or just choose someone completely random like Chris Eubank. Keep it vaguely interesting.

Henerlo · 11/06/2022 21:22

Well they do sub people tbf. They subbed out a whole bunch of Catholics back in the day. And loads of others. Although they tended to kill them rather than have a reality TV contest. Who says modern life is uncivilised?

TheKeatingFive · 11/06/2022 21:26

Well they do sub people tbf.

Only under the guise that they're somehow the 'true' heir. You couldn't possibly argue that Edward should Trump Charles. On what grounds?

Henerlo · 11/06/2022 21:30

Adultery!

Same for Ann.

It used to be a thing, they could just make it a thing again.

VestaTilley · 11/06/2022 21:31

Princess Anne would be my choice- she’s so hard working, never sought the limelight, and is a dutiful, down to earth lady of the old school.

I also like the Wessex’s and think the way they’ve raised their children, particularly Louise who looks thoroughly decent, is lovely. But that isn’t how it works - if we got to pick we’d have a republic.

And actually I really like Charles. Though words can’t express what we will lose when the Queen is no longer with us; she’s the best.
