To say remove your bloody rubbish from your front garden!

It's not even a front garden. Just a bit of grass at the front of the house, next to the porch.

The house in front of me, to the side, has loads of rubbish building up there.

This is a new build estate and it looks lovely. Then you walk by this neighbour and they have things like crisp packets on the grass at the front? Empty plastic bottles?

It's so chaotic. Last week, I walked by and picked stuff up. Binned it, in my own bin as it was bin day. Neighbour rushed out to ask what I was doing? I said oh just picking these up for you! I was really nice about it. Didn't really bother me at all

She said 'my son left that there. He just drops stuff when he gets out the car'

I said oh haha, something my son does too! I'm forever picking stuff up'

She said 'can you leave it please' so I did... thought it was an odd response.

Fast forward to this week and even more rubbish is there and some of it blowing near my house!!

She came out when I was binning it, again bin day and on my property actually, she said 'I thought I said to leave it there? It's no problem just being there'

I said it's on my property and it's no trouble. She said 'it isn't yours to clean up' then went inside and shut the door.

AIBU? Why the fuck is she acting like this?!

Is she a hoarder?

lasttimeyoucalledon · 11/06/2022 02:56

I don't know if she's a hoarder or not. Possibly, I haven't seen the inside of her house

Looks okay from what you can see of the kitchen

Definitely not being unreasonable. I don’t get the mindset of people who don’t take pride in the front of their property unless there are reasons preventing them from doing so. You’re being really polite about it and her response does seem bizarre. Maybe she was embarrassed?

Gingerkittykat · 11/06/2022 03:51

I would say entering someone else's garden and picking up their rubbish is pretty weird behaviour. I wouldn't be happy with a random neighbour coming into my space after I had told them not to.

I don't see a problem picking up rubbish either on the street or if it has blown onto your garden.

Isaidnoalready · 11/06/2022 04:02

If it blows on to your property pick it up and bin it if she tells you not to tell her to keep her rubbish to herself

Maybe she's trying to teach her son to do it?

but she hasn't succeeded in 17+ years, she's an eternal optimist.

id pick it up on the street/in my garden etc but not on hers. If she still says to leave it I'd ask why? What's the reason it's there?

if it gets too much/smelly I'd report it to the council.

You were too polite to her!!! It's rubbish!

carefullycourageous · 11/06/2022 04:37

You were out of order picking it up from her garden, you've created an issue. People are allowed mess on their own property, to a certain level.

She's out of order expecting you to leave it in your garden if it blows there.

pompomseverywhere · 11/06/2022 04:47

If it's a new build I bet the gardens are all open with little hedging or fencing.

It's not really a garden though - just a front bit of grass next the the door and path

There is no fencing or hedging. It's a little bit of grass just

I would just carry on binning it and ignore her.

Have you got the clean streets app? You can report litter, flytipping, dog poo etc to your local council, with photos. Do it each and every time the litter blows onto public land.

pompomseverywhere · 11/06/2022 06:35

Yes OP so I don't see the issue of taking litter from garden really as it's all open space. She sound unbearable. Can you see her back garden out of interest?

This. Perhaps she's trying to teach her son to clean up after himself rather than expect a woman to do it for him?

Her son sounds like an arsehole btw, who does that?

girlmom21 · 11/06/2022 07:06

Is that actually a little bit of shared land OP or is it hers?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 11/06/2022 07:23

A previous neighbour used to do this and it was infuriating picking it all up when it blew on to my garden. They had a good sized front garden though and it was the only one on the street that looked like shit.
They used to get out of the car and dump all their McDonald's rubbish etc in the front garden, despite walking past the bin on the way to the front door.
It affected the price of my house when I sold as it highlighted they were problem neighbours.

TeaWithFlorence · 11/06/2022 07:31

She can't just leave litter lying around on the street though. So if she isn't going to pick it up then i think you're being very community spirited.

ScootsMcHoy · 11/06/2022 07:37

I think either he or her son are hoarders.

One of my close friend in a hoarder. She would say or think something like

'I'll solder those crisp bags together and make a thermal blanket and keep it in the car for emergencies.

It's complicated irrational and it's also unpredictable. You can't ever tell what they are going to see as valuable or useful.

Moosake · 11/06/2022 07:49

I think if she's told you to leave the stuff in her property I'd leave it. Anything that blows into yours you can clear up and offer back to her?! I think she might be trying to get her son to tidy it up but is failing.

And yes everytime it gets on public property report it

Weirdwonders · 11/06/2022 07:56

Hmm I live on one of these estates where the lines between what’s public and what’s private are really unclear. So people will leave charity bags outside for days but because it’s both on the road and outside their house the line gets blurred (these houses are directly onto the pavement though - no space). I want to go and pull up weeds growing in my street outside peoples’ houses but I don’t know if they count as theirs but if they won’t do it why shouldn’t I? I say carry on picking up the rubbish. They don’t have the right to drag your area down.

Staynow · 11/06/2022 08:07

Tell her you don't like rubbish left around because it attracts rats. She fucking batshit.

BadAtMaths2 · 11/06/2022 08:09

You were too polite.

Seymour5 · 11/06/2022 08:13

Do you know if she owns or rents?
