To think she has the dress?

QuestionableMouse · 10/06/2022 22:07

Sold a dress on Vinted. The buyer says they never received it, despite yodel showing they'd attempted delivery three times then managed to deliver it the fourth time. She's saying she hasn't received it and it demanding that I return her money (I can't, it's held by Vinted until delivery is confirmed).

She's also refusing to even look at the tracking info to tell me if the depot is anywhere near her. I also asked her to check around outside but she'd refused to do that too!

I know Yodel gets a bad rap but I've never had a problem before. My feeling is that she has the dress and just wants her money too. I'm now having to jump through hoops to get the money from Vinted and honestly, it's really annoying.

Aibu to think she has the dress?

Truthfully, she probably thinks you're a scammer just as much as you think she's a scammer. You have no proof Yodel have delivered the parcel and, instead of kicking up a stink with them for either not delivering it or for failing to get proof of delivery (they should have done both), you're going after her. As far as she's concerned, you're not trying to resolve it either.

You should know her real name if you posted it to her. And (given you posted it to her) you should know her address, so you'd know whether the depot is close to her address if you just check on Google Maps, right? I can't even see how that's relevant anyway - if the depot is close to her house, it doesn't mean they delivered it.

Contact Yodel, ask them for actual proof that they delivered it and, if they can't provide that, you need to refund her money and try to recover the cost from Yodel.

I've only sold on Vinted a handful of times but up to now it's been brilliant, very straightforward and much less stressful than eBay! I like eBay as a buyer but hated it as a seller.

I've had numerous packages delivery status saying 'handed to resident', when I've been out at work and got home to find them on my doorstep or once just in the middle of my path which made me think they didn't even make it to the front door. I've had a few things missing aswell when marked as delivered.

MountainClimber22 · 10/06/2022 23:43

I've also had parcels apparently been delivered then they've randomly been delivered days later. Guess the delivery people have to keep up but it's not always possible.

soulinablackberrypie · 10/06/2022 23:46

I've just had a situation where a parcel was delivered to my workplace, addressed to a person I'd never heard of, but I assumed he worked for another part of our organisation in a different location and wanted it delivered there because it was lose to home. Too late, I found out there is no such person in the organisation. All I could do was wait to see if he contacted me. He did today, and it turned out he had asked for it to be delivered to a local shop that also functions as a collection point for parcels. The seller had typed in the wrong postcode and nobody noticed that the rest of our address had autofilled. Could the same thing have happened here? Can you get Yodel to confirm exactly who signed for it?

The label doesn't have an address on it, just her name. So no, I have no idea where she lives.

I have contacted yodel and they directed me to the tracking info which says the parcel has been delivered. As far as they're concerned, it has been delivered and their job is done. I also didn't pay for the shipping so they're not really willing to speak to me. (the buyer pays, so she should be the one speaking to them.)

I cannot refund her anything - it's held by Vinted and I have no way to even access the money.

I asked her to check the depot to see if it had gone to the right area of the country at least - if she lives in Scotland and it went to the London depot, then obviously something went wrong.

According to Vinted's FAQs, you can see the same information that she can - both the buyer and seller see the same tracking info. You're sending the parcel and you printed the label, Yodel's contract is with you, not her. You should be the one speaking to Yodel. It's on you.

And I can't understand how the parcel would get to her address without her address on it... There's a YouTube video explaining how Vinted postage labels work and the example on there has the address on the label.

DWofMN · 11/06/2022 00:03

The Vinted FAQ also says that, after they purchase an item, a seller can see the buyer's real name and full address that have been supplied to Vinted. Did this not happen?

QuestionableMouse · 10/06/2022 22:16

It literally says "delivered by Jess*" on the tracking page. And when I rang them to find out what was going on, they confirmed that it had been delivered. No pic, but I've never had that with Yodel. So they're saying it's been delivered but the buyer is saying she's never received it.

I'd like her to at least tell me if the last depot is anywhere near her address. And she's refusing to check outside her house (because I've had some deliveries "delivered" aka left it bloody stupid places!) I'm just asking her to work with me a bit to solve the problem but all I'm getting from her is "I want my money back" which is totally out of my control at this point!

*not the actual name!

What about calling her bluff and say they have proof ?

QuestionableMouse · 11/06/2022 00:05

When the buyer choses yodel, the buyer gets a label like this which is scanned in the shop and the sticker with the address stuck on by the shop assistant. So I never saw anything with her address on it. The buyer's name is in there but nothing else.

I've spoken to yodel and as far as they're concerned the parcel has been delivered. They also won't tell me more than that because I'm not the one who paid for the shipping.

Royal mail delivered my DH's trainers to a house with the same address as ours in the wrong town! Don't presume they are any better!

She can't, realistically, without her address...

QuestionableMouse · 11/06/2022 00:21

Honestly at this point I've done everything in my power to try to locate the parcel. It's not at the store when I sent it from (which is where Vinted think it is, apparently), Yodel are just saying it's been delivered and the buyer won't do a thing to help. I spent ages on the phone to yodel and made a trip into town to check with the shop. There's nothing else I can do.

I also have multiple good reviews so hopefully any buyer can see that I'm not a scammer!

PlanetOnwin · 11/06/2022 07:52

How much is the dress worth? Was it expensive?

The more expensive an item, the more likely a scammer!

tothemoonandbackbuses · 11/06/2022 07:58

Royal Mail are as bad as everyone else at losing parcels.

LetHimHaveIt · 11/06/2022 07:59

It's infuriating, either way.

Years ago, I sold about half a dozen wallets and bags, on eBay. No issue with five buyers; No.6 claimed hers hadn't arrived. Something about her tone in emails made me think she was a chancer. I let her pursue it as I didn't want to blindly refund. eBay found in her favour - because of course they did; they always do - and she got her money back.

I found her on Facebook and my wallet appeared in at least two pictures of her and her friends pouting and flashing peace signs in a Mexican chain restaurant. eBay wasn't interested in my ace detective work, the bastards.

Still annoyed about it! 😂

Huh? I'm not the OP love. Royal Mail just doesn't work for me. Never had an issue with any other courier 🤷🏼‍♀️

I sent one yesterday with Yodel and yea that's what we take in but when they print the label off you get the address on the receipt with the tracking number, I did anyway. If you still have the receipt then you could check it against the tracking to see if it was at the right place.
But, tbh, I don't think there's much else you can do. Hopefully Vinted will give you the money and refund the buyer as you have sent it.

eggsellentwork · 11/06/2022 18:15

You'll just have to keep directing her to take it up with vinted. Their customer service is terrible, but that may work in your favour as I suspect they'll just tell her it's been delivered and not do anything more.

sonjadog · 11/06/2022 18:22

I think you have done everything you can do to help her. She will have to follow this up herself. Tell her you have contacted Yodel and they won't speak to you about it as she is the one who ordered their service. Then let her get on with it. You don't need to tie yourself in knots here solving some stranger's problem. You have done what you can, now she can work out the rest herself.

QuestionableMouse · 11/06/2022 19:59

She just keeps saying "it's not my issue" when actually, I've done everything right and can't do anything else. So frustrating 😭😡😭

sonjadog · 11/06/2022 20:23

She can say that all she likes. Doesn't make it true. Tell her you have done what you can, what responses you have had, and then stop replying to messages.
