To think if you have a driveway

Parking in our little cul de sac has become a bit of a problem lately. We previously had access to a communal space for years but the landowners have now fenced this off and we are unable to use. So out of 18 houses there are 4 houses without driveways. Unfortunately some of those with driveways have started parking on the road so no one else can park near those peoples houses and there really is nowhere else to park. AIBU to think if you have a driveway then bloody park in it and don't be selfish and object to people parking near your house.

Yanbu. I live in a cul de sac and have a similar issue. No one is being blocked in they don't park on the drive for various reasons - none essential, sometimes because they have multiple cars. No one uses their garages and me who is the only home that has neither a drive or a garage often has to park in the next street as I'm out at work all day, get home with dc and shopping and have to cart everything to the house. It's frustrating!

Thanks for all your replies. I've honestly come to the conclusion that some people are just entitled knobs and look down on people whose houses are worth less than theirs.

Entitled twats.

Thanks for reading normal people 😊

Given that not a single post suggested this it’s probably fair to say that you thought that all along and it’s more the case that you resent your neighbours who can afford the houses with drives.

FavouritePi · 09/06/2022 21:35

I park on my drive but get annoyed when someone over the road with access to two spaces on a shared drive parks on the street opposite my drive. Then massive car from someone who lives around the corner overhangs my drive and I also get someone park close on the other side too. Getting out of my drive is a task not to do any damage at times.

I can see why people may do it.

You can speak to your local council about parking, they may look to bring in restrictions which might help you all out. If they were on their own drives and parking on the road was restricted to those who have visitor's permits and residents permits for those without drives then it may not happen as much?

BrieAndChilli · 09/06/2022 21:40

But surely those of you that park on the road because you don’t want people to block your drive as it makes it too difficult are just parking across the entrance to your drive so not taking up any actual spaces? So there should be the same amount of parking for other poeple? If you park across your drive then it is effectively the same as if you parked on your drive. No-one else would be affected.
if you don’t park across your drive then why not? That IS selfish as your drive is taking up a ‘space’ on the road and then you are parking in another space.

More the fact as loads have said it's often awkward to get on and off your drive when people park opposite or near it .
As for entitled why is anyone more entitled to the roads than anyone else

Thank you that's exactly the issue, get home after 5 and the twats with massive driveways will have parked on the road 😞

At last the truth comes out, this is all about your resentment at the people with the nicer houses.

eldora · 09/06/2022 21:53

The people with driveways are being utter twats complaining about people parking near their houses, unless people are blocking their driveways.

honest question. Why bother asking if you are being unreasonable if you have already decided you aren't and the other people are? Pointless thread.

Erm maybe the nicer houses are the ones with environmentally friendly pretty front gardens not concrete jungles

Madamecastafiore · 09/06/2022 21:58

I'd just block their empty drives and if they complain say you'd noticed they didn't actually use their drives do you're unsure as to why they are complaint.

No, if that was the case you’d not be making these jealous bitter posts.

Madamecastafiore · 09/06/2022 21:58

Doh complaining

eldora · 09/06/2022 22:00

But then the pretty garden people shouldn’t complain about concrete jungle people not using their driveways.

Where is the diagram?

That would piss me off too!

Havent seen a single post of someone complaining about people parking near their houses.

NOBODY has the right to dictate where others park their cars, wether their house has a drive way or not.

FFS people, be grateful you have the funds to run a car at the moment. If you want a drive way, then buy a house with a drive way. If you need access straight outside your home due to disabilities etc.
then apply for a disabled spot.

Jesus.

Ok then it’s a choice for you not to have a drive then as you prefer flowers?which is fine totally but you can’t then demand no one else can park on the street.

What do you mean, you “would”? You are the original poster in this thread. Trying (and failing) to set up a sock puppet account to agree with yourself is very poor indeed.

SpatzBurger · 09/06/2022 22:28

I have a driveway and use it always.

We have people on our street who seem to not only leave their drives free, but they actually park in front of their own drives probably with the thought in mind that they aren't blocking anyone in and it also frees up another slot in front of their house for anyone to use.

But, the end result is the streets are lined with cars and those of us who do want to get on our drives have barely any room to swing a car around to get into it. I prefer to reverse on and when the neighbour over the road is blocking his own driveway it is impossible for me to do so. Just use your drive!!

TheGoogleMum · 09/06/2022 22:34

Those that don't use your drive -do you park your car to block your own drive? That seems the logical thing to do for optimal space if you won't use the drive (we have a drive and we use it)

1smallhamsterfoot · 09/06/2022 22:35

Buy a house with a driveway then. Problem solved.
